Prime Duncan was a special player. From day one we saw his greatness. The post game, solid handle, the face up jumper off the glass, the defense and rebounding total package.
@@augustjologs1 Yeah, it's not the same without him. He truly was the big fundamental. Now everybody is just all about flashing and fancy dunks. Very few play fundamental basketball.
Esco Esco I disagree, ppl will always debate whether or not he is a center or a power forward, but to me, it doesn't matter, he is the greatest big man to ever play the game.
🙏🙏Blessings forever GOD loves y'all too forever tell everyone you know and don't know. Jesus loves y'all too forever. Teach everyone how to see and enjoy thmeir blessings too forever
Tim is a great basketballer, he started playing ball because his hometown swimming pool was destroyed by a hurricane and he couldn't continue swimming, he pick it up quickly and bang! he is one of the greatest of all time and he is undeniable one of the most humble player to step into the court.
Duncan and Robinson didnt turn to be the best duo simply because David was already old (he retired that year) and had some injured problems since 97. But he had at least 10 amazing seasons with 1 MVP, #2 (behind Jordan) or #3 places at MVP voting for like 4 times in a row. He was a beast and carried a mediocre Spurs to playoffs over and over again. Cant imagine what that Robinson with a new Duncan could do against Lakers who end up getting Shaq and Kobe still young and at their best.
+Konphetty Yes, his first 7 years in the league in that era is very underrated. Spurs were not very good at all, except for his rookie year, and he made them a very good team, yet took criticism for not going to finals. Please...Second best player from 89-96 behind Jordan. You can argue Olajuwon was second, but Robinson was better during this stretch.
I thought that many times. Mr. Robinson made me a spurs fan. I would've been being born in S.A. and still live here but he made it all worth it. With a young Drob and Timmy. 10 if not more banners hanging from the rafters.
It was. I was the biggest basketball fan and now I don't even bother watching the playoffs. The people who made the hand checking rule to make more scoring took away the post game and defense and now it is mostly no defense and players chucking 3's. So boring.
Duncan IS awesome....his leadership still influencing the team. Every player in a team always look up to him, in emergency situation he always trying to provide the team with his clutch :D.
Prime Tim Duncan is one of the greatest of all time. He was King of the Hill in 2003. Torched and dethroned the reigning Champions single handedly. I remember this game vividly, especially because the loss brought tears to Kobe Bryant and Derek Fishers faces on live tv. We all knew they would win the Championship after dethroning the Lakers. Great rivalry it was back then! Amazing season! #gospursgo #ripkobebryant
Took out the defending champ 03 lakers 05 pistons and 2014 heat plus the 07 suns who were the best team from the regular season left come round 2 in the playoffs once the mavs fell to an 8th seed and they swept the 99 lakers and the blazers who went to the next year conference finals due to duncan being hurt...
Tim Duncan the most underated, underappreciated superstar to ever play the game. It's so easy to skip him but we all know he's In anyone top 5. Arguably maybe top 4. He beat everybody cept Mike. Mike was gone so its unfair to both.
@@julioernestomoretacastillo2366 Lebum is top 5? bwahahahahaha he is...maybe top 10 look up who the bums from YMCA TD dragged to the 03 finals and come back
People blame horry for missing ..or says he did it on purpose so he could join them .. and sabotaging the spurs the next year by playing terrible vs la. ..chemistry shaqs shape the new 3 second rule and Duncan being a beast ...I blame rick fox getting hurt and being useless....that team needed him both in 03 and 04 and he could play but chose not to
@@robgbaby And the Lakers beat them in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2008. The Spurs beat them in 1995 and 2013 also, but the Lakers beat them 4 times in the 80s. Lakers are 8 and 4 against the Spurs in playoff series.
This game was not only the end of the Lakers being on top after the 3-peat, but also the end of a union (albeit uneasy) between Shaq and Kobe. Their feud, which was mostly muted to behind closed doors since the middle of the 2000-01 season, went into higher heights and then some after their elimination from the playoffs at the hands of the Spurs.
I remember this Spurs team. Although they won 60 games and got the number 1 seed, many thought they would lose to the Lakers. And let's face it, their offense was choppy in the regular season and Parker and Ginobili were still very young. They also struggled against Phoenix in the first round. However, these guys got hot at the right time and their chemistry really clicked in this round. Very special seeing the Lakers dethroned that year.
All Shaq had to do was show Tim some respect but instead the previous year when he received his finals mvp trophy against the nets he shouts out the guy he calls "the real regular season mvp" in Jason Kidd. Well Duncan had won that year & Shaq disrespected him for no reason. You betta believe Tim remembered that, and embarrassed Shaq's ass the next year which was this series.
thaxcutioner#1 he actually was the most dominant force though .. so dominant that all he had to do was literally back you down and he'd score everytime 😂( had a nice lil hook shot and post moves when needed..) . He didn't even need to do much to just dominant which was why it was so dominant to see
Wow I remember I was actually at this game as a kid! Sitting in the second to last row highhhh up in the nose bleeds, i was only 10 or 11 years old, and I vividly remember the guys behind me being piss drunk and yelling obscenities at Ginobili the whole time - because of this I always remembered Gino as the one who buried us that game but now after watching this I can see how it was clearly the magnificence of Duncan that put the nail in the coffin for the Lakers' 4-peat.
Yep. Kobe was the real MVP in 2003. Shaq took an extended vacation by having surgery right before training camp missed several games and played out of shape the entire season. Kobe routinely Destroyed the spurs and Duncan. 2000, 2001, 2004, 2008.
Duncan was so accurate. Thats whats so amazing about him. I use to always look at his stats and he would be like 12-18, 12-19, 16-24. etc. Some people dont realize how accurate he was. He hardly took a bad shot. He took some tough shots but he made a lot of them. Its crazy to think i watched Tim his whole career and say hes the best power forward i ever watched. I watched some great ones like Malone and Barkley. Didnt watch them in thier early years so i cant judge on that. Even older people who've watched basketball since the 60s and 70a say hes the best power forward ever. Either way. You gotta put him up there with one of the best at his position if not the best ✌
i think hes in the discussion for GOAT. And no i dont think thats ridiculous at all. Total combo of skill, clutch performances, and team success...no one can touch tim.
@@Cristian-vm1bg If he played in a big market like New York and won 5 titles with them he would be considered the Goat by a lot of people. It shouldn't matter where he played but it really does. Winning with big market teams always has a bigger influence because of the amount of fans and media support you have over the small market guys.
Timmy is a greater player than Kobe. That’s how great he was. Absolutely unstoppable whenever he wanted to be. Top 10 player ever no doubt. 2 MVPs, 3 Finals MVPs, 5 championships. Very unselfish at the same time. Did whatever needed to be done. Like a master chef; use the ingredients needed to win. If his recipe needed a pinch of salt, he added a pinch of salt, not poured a whole bunch. If it needed a lot of pepper, he added it. If it needed some hot sauce he used however much was needed. He didn’t go out there in force things and do a whole lot more than what was needed. But he dropped 40 and 20 whenever he had to
Love the Spurs. Very competitive game! I l love TD and Shaq in the game. The spunkness of Shaq was exciting to watch. When the Spurs beat you, you have to respect them. Always the underdog but God always lifts them up when the basketball community tears them down. Love you Timmy and the Spurs for your resilient spirit and heart.😘
2001 NBA Playoffs: Spurs get swept by the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals 2002 NBA Playoffs: Spurs lose to the Lakers in the Western Conference Semi-Finals in 5 Games Did Duncan join the Lakers in the 2002 off-season like how Kevin Durant joined the Warriors in the 2016 off-season after blowing a 3-1 lead against them in the Western Conference Finals?? No. Instead Duncan sought for revenge and got it in 2003 after having this phenomenal performance in this video which ultimately lead to him winning an NBA championship and a Finals MVP that year. That's what true NBA superstars and legends do. They do not take the easy route to win like KD did, and they instead have great performances to beat the best instead of joining them. Duncan is definitely a top 10 player of all time and it's a shame how people overlook his greatness because he wasn't "exciting" smh
Sanketh Reddy ... and did you know that before this nba season started ... and right after the lakers won their 3peat & beat jason kidd & the new jersey nets in the nba finals, shaq was interviewed by jim gray while the rest of the lakers are celebrating,he took the mic from jim gray then announced to the world saying"congrats to jason kidd, the real regular season mvp" as an insult to duncan ... that year, it's a seesaw battle for kidd & duncan for the regular season mvp & tim duncan eventually won & shaq didn't like it cuz he hated duncan ... he always talked shit about duncan for no reason, but duncan a gentleman as he is didn't respond or say anything, but he got his revenge by beating & preventing them from going 4peat ... after this series,I remember, shaq never talked shit against duncan again ... I guess his lesson ...
marc except KD didnt leave “because he couldnt beat the warriors” thats BS he left to beat the Cavs did u forget the reason OKC always lost to the heat was cuz the heat had shooters ALL OVER THE PLACE and remember the cavs were built just like the heat. and okc still had NO ONE off the bench or even in the starting lineup who could shoot except KD. literally no one. itd be Hella hard to beat the cavs like that, if okc made the finals and played them it wouldve been miami-okc all over again. and KD wasnt gonna stick around there just to get destroyed by the cavs again if they beat the warriors thats BS. the warriors werent the competition the cavs were
Lebron did it first he joined a team with 2 stars and 3 other top 5 picks (and one of them averaged 4.7 offensive rebounds and 5.3 offensive rebounds on Draymond Green in the 2015 and 2016 finals which has only been done like 4 times in nba history and people in Cleveland considered Trisan Thompson way better than Draymond Green) thats why it was ok for KD to join Golden State it wasnt fair for the rest of the league if they only let Lebron have a superteam. Lebrons move to Cleveland was weak not KDs to Golden State
@@karllorenzobabiano6328 He didn't forget anything. The Garnett-Pierce-Allen Celtics were much better than what Lebron had in Cleveland, he waited long enough and the best the organization could give him were overpriced (Wallace) and past their prime (Shaq) players. He didn't have anyone even close to Westbrook unless you consider mo Williams on the same level. Didn't join the Celtcis either, so your comparison is quite off.
20-footers. Fadeaways. Runners. Hooks. Dribble-drives. Perfect post game. Interior passing. Perfect kick outs. Leading the break for assists like a PG. All-time defensive dominance. All-time rebounding dominance. Makes his foul shots. Perfect intangibles as a leader and winner. Dominates a brutal Western Conference for 15 years (‘99-‘14) without Super Teams. Duncan is simply one of the most complete, perfect basketball players ever, and I consider him greater than Lebron, Magic, Shaq and Bird. I even have him above Russell due to his far less dominant teammates, his far tougher strength of schedule and his far superior offensive game.
Those who say that Duncan had Parker and Ginobli and Shaq had Kobe for their early rings, they should watch this and see who carried their respective teams then.
Anyone that says shit about either of those two players not being the pivotal parts of their franchises are either retards or kobetards, two of the worst fans to discuss the NBA with.
In 1999 and in 2003, yes, but Shaq's PHYSIQUE dominated Tim duncan's skill for 3 years (2000,2001,2002). But looking back i could say that Tim Duncan had a better overall career than Shaq and Kobe. Much props to him.
It's not like Shaq had no skill, the dude could play. Javale McGee and Hasheem Thabeet had terrific NBA bodies, but no skill. Obviously Duncan was more skilled and more committed on defense. But even still, they each won 4 rings on the other guy's watch. 1999 - 2003 and 2005 - 2007.
all i see is Shaq SH*TING on Spurs whenever he gets the ball. Its just sad that Lakers got beat as a team by Spurs. btw Shaq doesnt need many moves, because his one move works no matter what you do, he doesnt alter his shot for no one!
joceja23 i think you’re wrong, have you seen Duncan college numbers? Tim Duncan was the sistem. In 2000 when Duncan missed the playoffs they got swept by Phoenix suns with Jason Kidd and nobody else
I love watching Shaq guard TD... TD could take or shake any big man. Miss that spurs team, to bad D.Robs back was pretty much dismantled by that time of his career.
86 Boston Celts, Prime Larry, McHale and Parish, No weak link, its unreal to get 2 HOF post players for your team, 3 HOF in Prime post players is just insane.
Right said. Manu has a killer first step and amazing clutch shot, maybe one of the best in the league and nobody consider him as a great player. At least I did not see many people saying that.
Yeah. People are actually saying that about TD and Nash now because of their age. And yet Duncan is playing very solid in the best team in the NBA right now and Nash's possible departure from phoenix and signing with a contender is all the talk in the NBA. They are winners and their IQ is a testament of that given that they were never really very athletic to begin with. Young people these day only appreciate all the flashy things. They say Spurs are boring but they play BEAUTIFUL basketball.
Duncan is the last true role model these days. He was the best collegiate player while playing for Wake Forest. Stayed in school and got his diploma. Entered the NBA as the no. 1 over-all pick. Won rookie of the year and finished 3rd on the MVP ballots as a rookie! Won an NBA title his sophomore year in the league. Won 3 more rings and two MVPs. Consistent All-NBA and All-Defensive team member. He did it all and has nothing more to prove. I hope he gets a fifth ring.
shaq's caddy? in 2001 and 2002, kobe was just about as much responsible as shaq. great defense, playmaking, road and 4th quarter play. especially in 2001 he was the lakers' MVP until the finals, where shaq got the best of mutombo
Duncan always outperformed Shaq in the playoffs. In '02 it wasn't even close between the two. In '99 TD in only his 2nd year outproduced the more experienced Shaq over the course of the series. In '01, yeah who couldn't win with Kobe playing like MJ in that series? Shaq is a big bully, he only ever intimidated 1 dimensional well into their 30s weaklings for titles. Guys like Smits, Sabs, Mutombo. When it came to Hakeem and Duncan in the playoffs he had to take a back seat when it came to winning.
FuShengAlex Shaq outperformed both of those guys. They just had the better team. Kobe like MJ? LOL,....Because of Kobe Shaq has records for the most offensive rebounds in finals history. Kobe was shooting 38% while Shaq was beasting at 56% in the playoffs. GTFO,...everyone knows that Shaq is the reason for those Lakers championships. Kobe will forever be haunted by Shaq's dominance.
FuShengAlex Lol, when did Duncan outperform Shaq? Duncan has more accolades than Shaq, but he's never been as efficient, nor has he been as dominant. The only matchup problem for Shaq was Hakeem Olajuwon. What's even more pathetic is that you're giving Kobe the credit for the Lakers beating the Spurs in the playoffs prior to 2003. Bro, it's a historical fact that Kobe is the reason Detroit won the 2004 Finals.
When did Duncan outperform Shaq? Are you not watching this video? Were you alive in the 99 playoffs? 2004 Finals? The same series Tex Winter blasted Shaq for his lazy defensive effort? Lol
FuShengAlex I watched both series. Though I'll give Duncan the nod in 1999, he was the best player that series. As for the 04 Finals, there was no beating Detroit. I'm not accusing you of this, but I love it when fans have the temerity to claim that Ben Wallace dominated Shaq. Shaq scored 36 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in game 4 of the 04 Finals, yet the Lakers still lost. Shaq was the most dominant and most efficient player that series, but unfortunately for LA, Detroit was the best defensive team Kobe has ever faced.
dude how old are you? it wasnt just his size. he had EVERYTHING. basketball iq , post moves , speed agility quickness. everything. He couldnt shoot but few old school center could shoot. And the fact that he couldnt shoot and had 50% on the free throws line show what an offensive weapon he was. imagine if he had 65-70% on the free throw line.
***** Shaq in 2012 also said Deandre Jordan was the best center in the West over Dwight Howard. Sidekick Duncan never beat Shaq's Lakers without David Robinson taking care of the paint for him. David Robinson missed 2 games in the 2002 WCSF and Duncan lost that series without a healthy Robinson in 5. David Robinson left after 2003, and in the only meeting between Duncan's Spurs and Shaq's Lakers without David Robinson, this is what happened 2004 WCSF - Shaq averaged 14.5 rpg (personal best vs the Spurs in a series) - and 64% FG (never reached 60% FG against David Robinson in a series) and that was after Shaq's worst regular season as a Laker
Kobe Not Top 100 Kobe Bryant destroyed the Spurs in 2002 WCSF, not Shaq. Tim Duncan scored 27 points - 17 rebounds per game against the Lakers in the series. What could he do more?
+AnimeFan 2016 For 3 straight titles, Shaq owned Duncan and wiped his a** with him. The unfortunate part about Shaq's career is that if you take his best 10 years, he blows Tim Duncan out of the water, but when Shaq faded, he really faded and Tim has remained a very solid player for years beyond his prime. Duncan gets the nod for the entire career, but if you take players just in their primes, it's no contest, Shaq wins.
+Jeewantha Bandara That's why I hate when they say thr Kings and Lakers were a better rivalry, the Kings never truly beat them. The Spurs were they're true rivals.
If you count Duncan as a center, here are my picks for best centers all time: 1) Kareem Abdul-jabbar 2) Bill Russell 3) Wilt Chamberlain 4) Hakeem Olajuwon 5) Shaquille O'Neal 6) David Robinson 7) Tim Duncan If you count Duncan as Power Forward, which is what I and most everyone else count him as, here are my picks for best power forwards all time: 1) Tim Duncan 2) Karl Malone 3) Charles Barkley 4) Bob Pettit 5) Kevin McHale 6) Kevin Garnet 7) Dirk Nowitzky
9:45 my vote for the greatest move OF ALL TIME. better then Jordan 'spectacular move' better than Dr J behind the backboard. what's better? nothing. thats right
This is a good reminder that although Dunkan joined the league 2 years after Kobe he was able to dominate the Shaq and Kobe duo in their prime. One of many reasons he is higher than both in any sane person's all time great list.
