Copying Content in SharePoint
Copying Files and Folders:
Within a Site:
Navigate to the document library containing the files or folders you want to copy.
Select the files or folders.
Click on the “Copy to” option in the command bar.
Choose the destination within the same site or document library.
Between Sites:
Follow the steps above to select and copy the files.
Select the destination site and library where you want to copy the files.
Copying Lists and Libraries:
Using Save as Template:
Navigate to the list or library you want to copy.
Click on “Settings” (gear icon) and select “List settings” or “Library settings”.
Choose “Save list as template” or “Save document library as template”.
Enter a name and description, and select whether to include content.
Save the template and use it to create a new list or library in the desired location by selecting “Add an app” and choosing the saved template.
Using Site Scripts and Site Designs:
Site Scripts:
Define JSON files that describe the actions to take place on a site, such as creating lists, setting site themes, and adding navigation.
Upload the script to SharePoint using PowerShell.
Site Designs:
Combine multiple site scripts into a single design.
Apply the design to new or existing sites to automatically apply the defined configuration and customizations.
Designing SharePoint Sites
Using SharePoint Themes:
Default Themes: Choose from built-in themes available in SharePoint.
Go to the “Change the look” option in site settings.
Select a theme and apply it to your site.
Custom Themes: Create and apply custom themes using the Theme Designer.
Use the SharePoint Theme Designer to create a custom theme.
Upload the theme using PowerShell or the SharePoint Online Management Shell.
Page Layouts and Templates:
Modern Pages: Use modern page layouts to create visually appealing and responsive pages.
Add a new page by going to “Site contents” - “Site Pages” - “New” - “Site Page”.
Choose from various web parts like text, image, link, document, video, and custom web parts.
Arrange the web parts on the page as needed.
Page Templates: Save a custom page layout as a template for reuse.
Create a new page and design it as needed.
Save the page and select “Save as template”.
Use the template for creating new pages.
Web Parts:
Adding Web Parts: Enhance your pages with web parts for dynamic content.
Edit the page and click the “+” icon to add a web part.
Choose from various web parts such as Document Library, List, News, Events, Quick Links, and more.
Custom Web Parts: Develop custom web parts using the SharePoint Framework (SPFx).
Use tools like Visual Studio Code and the SharePoint Workbench for development.
Deploy the custom web part to your site collection or tenant app catalog.
Navigation:
Hub Sites: Connect related sites and unify navigation and theme.
Register a site as a hub site using SharePoint admin center.
Associate other sites with the hub site to share navigation, theme, and search across sites.
Mega Menus: Create dropdown mega menus for organized navigation.
Go to site settings and select “Change the look” - “Navigation”.
Choose the mega menu layout and configure the links and sections.
