This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The first step in community building is knowing what needs attention and what should be celebrated. A community asset map gets people together to share their knowledge about their community. Learn about what a community asset map is, how to do one in your community and what steps to take next in order to build a kick-ass community.
Liz Hannum is originally from Boston, Go Sox! Liz has traveled the world looking to make a difference in communities. She has worked with local community development groups in Thailand, Peru, Kenya, Turkey, Iraq, and in the USA to identify assets and needs for the regions. She recently made the move to Aberdeen, South Dakota to work with local entrepreneurs and share her passion for international travel with students at Northern State University. She started her own hand weaving business and loves anything to do with elephants.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Perhaps she may be nervous, and its daunting when speaking in front of a sizeable crowd, especially if she is new to it. Well done Liz.

Yes, it was indeed challenging listening to the content with the profusion of 'ums and ahs. I initially turned it off and saved it for later. Returning, I was again distracted and decided to sample the piece but gave up after counting over 25 inclusions in just under 2 minutes. Seeing that those who were able to listen to the piece in its entirety, give it a positive review, I will revisit at a later time.
