On this hunting trip, we found fossil shark teeth from megalodon, a bull shark tooth, great white shark teeth, makos and more. We also found tons of shell fossils and whale bone.

I envy you guys soooooo much. It’s crazy that you can go to these roads and find teeth, shells and bone. I love the whale bone. And the shells are so pretty. Boy I would be out on those roads every day. Especially after a hard rain. Such great finds!!!!!!!

Thanks! These roads are a lot of fun after a good rain for sure. The hunting can be a little slow otherwise. 🦈🦈🦈

This is amazing. Can you find fossils on any given dirt roads in your area at any given time? Or do you go hunting after storms and on specific roads? I'm from Maryland and I only know of a few local beach sites to find fossils so this is mind blowing to me.

Not all roads are like these, but there are quite a lot of them. I do a lot of research to locate the most likely areas and we spend a lot of time exploring and keeping records of every area we locate the right kinds of spots. There's some great fossils on the beaches of MD!

You guys find more shark teeth on roads than I do at the beach! Are these dirt roads near the beach?
@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 6 лет назад
Hi Mary, some of the roads we hunt are near beaches, others aren't. There are much better places to hunt shark teeth than the beach, believe it or not. You want places where geological formations with shark teeth are exposed, either from the erosion of a creek or river, a mining operation/construction site, or fill material on roads.

PaleoCris thank you! I live in Brevard County Florida, seems like the bulk of finds are near the West coast. Do you find that to be true?

How do you know a shell is a fossil (pardon my ignorance lol Ive only ever found fan and pippi (cockle) fossils here in South Australia and they are solid stone. Those shells look fragile) and how old are the olive shells that you are finding there?

I know some of the shells and the sharks teeth, but the bone....how do you know what it is? What reference material do you use? (BTW, Kyle, you are the only one who ever answers me. I want to hear feedback from your buddies, too!)

Hi Chris, I decided to start at your first videos and work my way to present, and these are my favorite because I have hope of finding something awesome without having to be in the scary rivers and creeks! aaaahhh! We are heading to FLA in late May , Honeymoon island area, but how do we find roads like this?? I've only ever seen paved roads, any clues or areas we could check out? Appreciate any input...ok, back to your videos! Thanks Chris!

Hi Nana, unfortunately these roads no longer have much at all on them like they used to. There are probably many more throughout FL, but I’m not confident enough on where they’d be to even take a trip out exploring for them. You may look into one of the newer pay to dig places like Bone Valley Fossil Farm or other ones like that. They offer a place to hunt that isn’t rivers/creeks. Alternately, there is occasionally nice stuff found on beaches in FL, but it is usually smaller shark teeth (which is also exciting!)

We had lots of rain this summer plus it rained enough to make the rivers rise here. I hunt shake teeth on the Alapaha and this week I've found so many many bull shark teeth. They have a brown cream and aknaot orange brown colors all swirled together! I keep these creeks secret because you can tell no one ever goes back there. It's pristine. Alapaha has more stuff than most think. If you're ever in North Florida let me know. I work at a state park also so I have to keep my stuff on the DL

You're more than welcome to use a clip from this video in yours. I wish I had started collecting fossils at your age...I was much older when I started collecting and learning. Good luck with the RU-vid channel and vid. I'll watch it when its uploaded. Take care!

Are there any roads like this near Orlando? I need to find something like this to take my 6 year old to.
@PaleoCris
@PaleoCris 6 лет назад
I'm not very familiar with that exact area, but definitely keep an eye out for any shells on any dirt roads in FL. You're probably much better off in a shallow creek or river (such as the Peace River and creeks near there) if you want a kid friendly place to find fossils.
