Sharks are more than their scary reputation.
[A Caribbean reef shark swims briskly near coral and vegetation on the ocean floor.]
A stable shark population is integral to a healthy ecosystem.
[A leopard shark swims into a kelp forest accompanied by small fish.]
Many species of sharks are also apex predators.

These top-level predators help keep the food web in balance.

Sharks rarely bite humans. They have more to fear from our hunting than we do theirs.
