I was a US soldier stationed with the MFO from Jan-Sept 1983......This is AMAZING! It was a barren desert wasteland back then, only a few buildings. The big attraction was a Tent bar, disco, dive shop and water sports rentals (mostly surf sail boards and floaty devices). BUT, it was beautiful and I learned to Scuba Dive there.

I was there too. MFO 1985. I am saddened to see it in its current shape. I saw a lot less fish and a less dense coral reef. So sad to see it turned into the tourist trap it is now.

You spent too much time in the old market and not enough in Naama where all the bars and restaurants are, and you never visited the Camel Bar in Naama, world famous for divers, I am a diver, roof terrace is great, I have been there many times, my favourite bar on the whole planet. The Tavern in Naama is another great bar for food and music, you left too much out, Sharm is a great place to holiday, not just for diving.

Simply, Egypt is a huge country with various tourist attraction sites and different types of tourism. It is as if you have visited 3 or 4 countries. The Egyptian monuments are unique, while the seas are marvellous. It is worth every second.

This is so sad for me to see. I miss the abundance and diversity of the reefs and amazing and incredible fish colonies. I even miss the sharks. Then again, I was there when there was no tourism whatsoever back in 1985. People have a talent of spoiling all the remaining, quiet, rare and undisturbed places left on this earth. Sharm El Sheikh just happens to be the place I saw this play out.

Metrojet Flight 9268: "In March 2020, an Egyptian appeals court ruled the crash was not an act of terrorism, and it dismissed lawsuits against government officials, Metrojet and Ingosstrakh. The appeals court ruled that the identities of the 224 victims had not been officially established and it was impossible to issue compensation to them as a result." Not only they kill tourists, but then they refuse to compensate. I will never visit this country for sure.

@@hanygeorge8603 well I’ve lived and worked in Egypt for the last 30years and married an Egyptian. 15 years being in sharm el sheikh. I will say it’s 150% safer than the Uk by a long margin, much better life than Scotland Uk.
