When I watch a Star Wars movie, I want to watch a Star Wars movie, not a documentary about social issues in Pakistan.

She (Chinoy) is right, if you strip EVERYTHING out, it is a story about people fighting for change in themselves and their surroundings. BUT and it's a big BUT, you are meant to entertain and immerse your audience so all that stuff you take out is there to build the world, the characters and the narrative. If you take all that out (which she will) all you are left with is a lecture and a real world feeling leaving the audience disinterested and still attached to real world events. If they wanted that they can just turn on the news.

From the interviews she has been in about SW including this one you posted, I have YET to hear her speak of "specifics of the old SW" which makes me believe she knows nothing of SW. You haven't heard her speak of Luke, Vader, the Emperor, or even Leia. She just speaks of vague ideas like "The hero's Journey" and covert or overt activism she likes to put into her productions. Overall, not a wise choice for SW.

hi, heres my hot take. I work alot, my daily life is a grind, im filled with dread and discomfort. When i pay big buck to go to the cinema, its to espace reality, to be transported in a good story. So why would i pay big money to feel uncomfortable? it doesnt interest me, i dont watch drama for this specific reason.

Respect for her fight for women rights in certain parts of the globe our western strong wamen with their salon chair activism wouldnt dare to set foot. But all of that and her have no buisness what so ever in SW, though Im sure by now everybody knows Disney is willing to go down with the ship.

I have finally given up on Disney Star Wars, I have given it so many chances but this shows they are not going to change. Thank God for George Lucas and the Original Trilogy and the Prequels.

As someone who has been a huge fan of Star Wars since I was a kid, from Pakistan, this is the WORST person you can pick for Star Wars. Star Wars is already so dead that this feels more like dragging it's dead corpse out of the rotting grave and making another movie out of it.

The message of Star Wars is good vs evil and good wins. We did not start seeing any sexism or racism in Star Wars until Disney took it over because this amazing galaxy far, far, away did not and should not have those EARTH based issues.

Don't forget, Patty Jenkins was starting production of her movie, but got fed up with KK's interference and being told this is how KK thought it should go. That's why she left. Funny SOC said she has an economics degree... you would think that would help her understand, "Go woke, go broke." I agree with Anna, I hope we are wrong and SOC's movie turns out good. Why do women need to solely lead the franchise when men and women working together on Star Wars made it what we love in the first place? So many aspect that we love about original Star Wars was influenced by women and they didn’t get shouted down. They were given the opportunity to be creative. You get iconic art.

Bob Iger may not have been aware of the earlier interview where she intends to make men uncomfortable, and inserts activism in all her projects. When that interview broke out on social media, I'm sure people up high at Disney scrambled. Hence announcing a Jon Favreau directed Mando-Grogu movie. This Rey movie is going to get the back burner treatment going forward. As far as those two Game of Thrones creators losing their newly acquired job a few years ago. To me, that had to do with the revelation that George R.R. Martin was the genius behind the storylines in Game of Throne, not them. When seasons 7 and 8, without George R. R. Martin's input were the ridiculous, disjointed, inconsistent messes they were, (characters transported somehow instantly across continents because the storyline required them to), it revealed they rushed to end GoT production merely to start their new jobs at Lucas Films. I don't think they even had a chance to move into their new offices there. As far as Patty Jenkin's project, after WW84 did worse than anticipated, it was revealed Patty should stick to directing, and not write. Right after Rachel Zegler's huge insult to Disney that was so bad for her Snow White role that she did interviews saying how great the original was without even acknowledging she had been mistaken about it before.

Ironically, what Sharmeen says about heroes gives me a little bit of hope. Even though the heroes she's done documentaries about have been REAL women not the Mary Sues that are typical of fiction.

Two things really concern me: the constant talk of activism, of course. But more so, the lack of experience in film making. Disney are prepared to throw a couple of hundred of million dollars at somebody with no experience??

Everyone just has to face the fact that Star Wars on screen version of Star Wars as well as all other Disney properties are dead as long as Kathleen Kennedy is calling the shots.

The sequel trilogy only had enough room for Rey, it couldn't even adequately fit Finn in. How the heck does she plan on making enough room for even a single apprentice for Rey when, of course, she will have to be in it as the mentor and teacher figure? And what's she going to teach, that you have to be the destined one to use the Force? That you have to be 'all the Jedi?'
