Hi Folks,
Here's a concise but illustrative video on how to replace the drive belt on a Sharp GF-8080. I made a fuller service video on this unit quiate a while ago and I have subsequently had numerous GF-8080s in for a belt change - so I thought I'd add a new, more focused guide.

You can do it without de-sodering anything. But I didn't know the spindle grub screw could be removed! Thanks!

Thanks for watching! These days, I just take off the APSS white ones, as I find they just make things more awkward - oh, and that earthing cap, as it allows opening away so much easier without fear of damaging the cap. I tend to find there's much less work entailed to actually change belts, but it's also nice to get better access to move stuff around and get to everything - it helps with filming too. These are awesome machines - so solid, and a fantastic sound for a relatively small unit. I hope you continue to enjoy yours! Thanks again 👍

Excellent video! I would like to know what is the thickness of the belt that was replaced. I have a Sharp RD-477 that has the same cassette recorder.

Thanks for watching 👍There are 3 belts, but the main drive belt I used was 1.2mm x 72mm. Hope that helps!

The one i have is not in great shape but it was from an electronics recycler on ebay and only cost 99 p so far i have had 3 boomboxes a memorex cd 3300 a less common model though all works but needs belts and might have a loose ground somewhere and a sharp with back two back cassette mech it looks a nightmare mech solenoids and 2 flywheels if i remmber right they both have separate motors is an electronic mech fast forward and rewind work play seems to struggle to engage like the mech is hamming it did work a few times just holding play maybe its worn belts .

Several reasons collided to a point it made sense to go old skool, I thought 50 quid will get something half decent....3k plus for one that caught my eye. lesson learned.

There are good, bad and ugly ones at most price points, and the trouble is 1 is never really enough either.... You won't get much for £50 now (you can pay £40 for a set of belts) - but you might get lucky! Thanks for watching 👍
