Sharp LC 50LB371C TV Backlight Repair (DIY home repair!)

This sharp tv would turn on but had a black screen. It turned out to be the back lights.
links below to led's, Suction cups and much more! (note uses 3V 1W leds)

To do this repair
1. Take off the back assembly
2. Take off the front screen assembly
3. Tape the ribbon cable from the LCD to the back of the LCD panel
4. Use suction cups to remove LCD panel
5. Test all LED strips, take out any strips that are bad and fix them it helps to put them all in a row and do them all at once.
6. Re-install them and double check that they are all working
7. Re-glue the led covers
8. Re-assemble the TV.

-New leds 3V on ebay (ebay.us/lnm771)

hi, these are the Symptoms for my sharp tv model lc-65n7004y i see the sharp logo at power up, it is brighter on the left than the right, i have no sound, i tried the flashlight test and see nothing, the power light is a 5 long and 2 short then the power light goes to red. i have changed the power board and there is not change thank you

@@cosmo0080 looks like your backlights are bad use an led tester to be sure.

If the Sharp logo comes on, and sound is working, tv menus are working but the entire screen is mostly blue color - does it mean that LED’s need to be replaced as you’ve shown there?

More detail would have been nice in removing the LCD panel itself, instead that part was completely skipped. I have replaced a few panels in some LG tvs and never came across adhesive holding down parts of the panel, if I would have known that I could have preemptively run a knife along the outside edge, instead when I went to lift the panel it cracked because a part of it was held down. There is also a clip along the bottom that needs to be removed before the rest of the trim is taken off. The TV is now garbage, along with the new backlights I bought for it.

I actually had a good time and enjoyed fixing mine like you said you just have to be very careful and it is kind of stressful a lot of screws the first time I did it I put it all back together and I forgot to put the diffuser cap back on worst feeling ever had to take it all back apart again put it back on and put it all back together again lol and I did it on the floor like you so it's a little rough on the back if you have a huge table that would be ideal

This worked spot on for me on my Sharp LC-50LB370U. Thanks Newsons Electronics. It just seemed likely the the LEDs were to blame. Sure enough I had 3 bad ones (although in hindsight I should have checked the power supply first as the amount of work involved to get to the LEDs is significant). I didn't have a heat gun but managed with a micro torch after practicing a bit on scrap steel of similar thickness. Of course as someone else mentioned there is still the possibility another LED will fail soon. Indicator-type LEDs can last a generation but it seems the higher the power the less reliable they become.

Great video BTW, any chance you know what the voltage for the led is coming from the power supply ? I would like to test it befor I bother ripping it apart. I have video I can see it in the dark with a flash light, and I have sound. Just no back light

I have a sharp lc55ub30u that has a power light but no screen glow or any signs of life if i press power it acts like it wants to turn on but that's it it doesn't get any backlight or if i hold a flashlight to it doesnt show picture i replaced all the boards inside the chassis what is causing this? surely it couldn't be the leds could it?

I have the same tv I tested the led connector I got 68.5 volts each for led 1 and led 2 I hope those are the correct voltages since they are not labeled on the board

as long as all the leds light up it is fine that voltage is for one strip in series.

Use an led tester and test the LEDS the wires will come through the metal bezel

What if the led lights up but is only half brightness and also I heard it it is just one or two led you can solder over them to bridge the connection, is this true?

you can\t solder over them because they will then drive at a higher voltages eg. the other leds will go.

You go ahead with that idea and you will regret doing so as you blow out the rest of the Leds due to increase voltage and current.

yes I believe so the only two types of led I saw 3V and 6V but 3V is more common

does it have standby voltage of 5v is so it' probably good. If you can see a faint image with a flashlight your power supply is fine.

@@NewsonsElectronics i have 5v, and with flashlight i see picture. I took it apart and found that led strips are fine. Ordered replacement power board. Will see if will make difference.
