A fellow BoB player here. Here are a few things I wanted to also mention in terms of how the Sharp Teeth and Thick Hide talents interact in the game after watching this video. Will likely end up a bit of a text block. - When "The Return of the Tyrant Lizard King" (Patch 1.1.1124) update came out on January 24, 2021, a change was made to where Thick and Sharp hit a growth stat influence cap at 1.0 growth. This means Health and Damage gained solely from growth past 1.0 do not influence the activation ranges and boosts of Sharp and Thick. However HP boosts from Well Fed and Constitution and damage boosts from Brawler(potentially the other damage talents too, untested) do influence those talents, as stated in the video. This growth stat cap on those talents is still in the game at the current time. Can find this change on the changelog news posts on the BoB Steam community tab. - Thick Hide also has another factor that makes it significantly more versatile as a talent in which on some creatures it stacks with their other damage resistances. Whilst Thick and Acro roar stacking was removed a good while ago, Thick Hide's damage reduction can currently still stack with Bleed's damage reduction, Krono's Hard Headed reduction, Coahs Face Sheild reduction, friendship friendly fire reduction AND locational damage modifiers [tail hits]. So if you are playing a creature where you have access to these extra damage reduction options and you have frequent matchups against playables that frequently don't have Bruiser points invested/can't run Bruiser, Thick Hide becomes even more impactful than it already is. - The amount of damage resistance Thick grants and the amount of damage increase Sharp grants scales with how far below the activation threshold the incoming damage is. Which is why creatures like Velo, Megaraptor, and Megalo can get massive damage boons against opponents without enough/any Thick, but for stuff like Rex where even if a beefy Const and/or Fat Sai gets under that damage threshold, the boosts each talent gives isn't going to be much. But since most things don't deal Rex levels of damage, most creatures fall into the range where these talents will always give a significant increase against a good number of important matchups. Whilst the math and dynamic ranges of these Talents will always be funky to mess with, one thing for certain is how strong they are when they do activate. Providing some of the highest stat increases you can get in the game whilst having a fairly lenient activation range. On most creatures, these talents are "run or die" levels of PVP dominating, and the fact they also counter each other directly forces players looking to win fights to have to maximize these talents over almost everything else. The further you dig the more ludicrous it gets, so I hope that eventually that Thick Hide, Sharp Teeth, Serrated Teeth, and Sharp Horns can all get some much-needed attention so they can loosen their death grip on the PVP meta of the game.
Thank you for all the info! Yes I know about the 1.0 growth but most people will always be above 1.0 so I didn’t bother to cover that lol Also sharp and thick do = equal each other according to my tests. A velo with 5 sharp and an apata with 5 thick will canceled each other out, preventing the velo from getting bonus damage. Also from the test it’s a hard set at 15% we even used a rex for the test as well, once the damage was about 15.2% there was no significant damage increase it was like .003 more damage. As you said it’s very run or die lol yes those last 4 talents need some reworking cuz from my tests as long as you get ST or equivalent, brawler, thick, and const you just win the game.
Sharp teeth and thick hide are such problem talents, imagine how balanced and fun the game could be if you didnt HAVE to go thick or sharp to actually do something :(
For real! They need to be nerfed or unique talents. As it is the speed talents are less important because of the massive advantage combat and survival inherits are.
@@Tsuki0222 yeah indeed! having a whole drove of velos at your side to mitigade this at least a little bit helps. alternatively; fighting targets that dont get thick
So quick summary if I’m hearing this right. As an Apato hick hide always reduces at least SOME damage even against a rex that has max talent points in sharp?
That’s so hard to answer lol cuz the closer you get to 15% the less you do. So let’s say you have 1/3 at 15% you get 0% increase and if you’re a velo and did like 3% of their health you could get a 30% increase, while a meg could only get a 10% because it does more. Super hard to answer that lol unfortunately
That question in itself is so hard to answer lol so I gave myself a lot of hp like 10milion health and the damage went from 480ish to about 790ish with 3/3 ST and no TH but when we tested it with the damage being at 14.8% we only one 1 damage bonus. So the closer to 15% the less you get but trying to get it exactly is a nightmare
Your wrong on the mosa part if you go sharp and thick hide and cons on it your pretty much dead by any other speed/combat mosa because they can out maneuver you and most mosas are always speed/combat
Not really, with drifting it’s hard to be out maneuvered. You might not be able to catch a full speed and combat Mosa sure, but they’d never be able to kill you lol as long as you know what you’re doing and how to drift properly nimble is useless in water
