He marries Jane after she helps him escape from Foulness, but she leaves him for John Rossendale. @artemisshock when you read the book she is stunningly beautiful and they have a wonderful courtship. In the movie she is definitely no beauty, and is portrayed as kind of unstable. The casting is horribly off for her.
