My dad always used a utility knife to sharpen his pencils. He would put the tip of the pencil on the bench then shape the wood tip. He would follow up by cutting the lead.
Nice Gerber. A new type of locking mechanism has been introduced lately, but they don't have blades as short as yours. I didn't know about the special sanding tool until today. A short EDC knife and a sanding tool seems to be the best combination.
Thanks, I’ve had the Gerber for awhile. It has a spring assist and a button lock that I really like. It’s a good size and weight to throw in my EDC bag.
@@ScottDSackett Thanks for answer and heart! You can look for older 100+ years old pencil sharpeners and see that they are much more elaborate and sophisticated. It was some time since I read up on it, buit from memory - Likely because the pencil then was a much more appreciated and new invention. At one point it actually was considered a great millitary secret, the graphite lead I believe it was called back then (this is before they learned to mix graphite with clay to make pencil lead). The mines were a closely guarded secret.
