I have been dealing with Kunstadt Sports (primarily Bank street locations) since 1985 and their staff and the family have never disappointed in product or service. My quiver has seven pair and all the accessories and all still in use. Following Mr. Kunstadt's lead or advice of my favorite technician (Gaetan@South Bank St. Location) will put u in good stead on the slopes...guaranteed. Truly a family operated and local business brand, with dedicated employees for which I only have good things to say. (No I do not work for them, they simply have earned my trust and loyalty)

It is so reassuring to learn from an expert. Clear, concise, logical and practical information you can count on. Thank you for taking the time to educate us mere mortals.

This is the best home tuning guide so far on RU-vid. Uses all stuff a home tuner would have, covers everything, and shows subtle things other insturctionals did wrong like oxidizing the ptex candle. Good job and thanks

I really appreciate how you point out the differences of finish and WHY we would want these finishes. Same with the edge angles. That’s stuff most people don’t know. Like a more textured finish for soft or powder snow, Vs polished for hard pack. Been skiing since 84 and had no idea about this!!!

I'm gonna be honest, I can't take the logo of the store too seriously, but I'll trust this man witheverything about my skis.

I have previously been sharpening and waxing my own ski’s. Mainly by trial and error because the ski techs in resort do-not give away there secrets easily. I am pleased to find a guy who knows his “stuff” I think i have previously being doing it right but i have learned a lot from him. Thanks

I have been skiing since the early 1950s. I once worked in ski rental shops and elsewhere in several ski areas. However, all my ski repair and preparation knowledge is quite out of date. For example, I have repaired many screw-on metal edges. You know, like a winter dinosaur. SO: I am very happy to learn these things in this video. I can carefully handle the sharpening tools because I am a good chain saw sharpener. Everything about the ski base was new to me. It has all changed for the better since my day. Everything I once knew and did is quite out of date. One thing I am sorry about is I threw out a lot of ski wax when I was moving. It turns out it was all the right colors. Anyway, I learned quite a lot, and I thank you!

Thank you for sharing everything in such a clear way, I now know how to correctly use the Ptex candle. The tip about putting the strap in between the skis for protection is really helpful too, never heard anyone say that before.

Thanks for the great video. The only thing i have been thought in the basics, is that you have to do every movement like sharpening edges or scraping the base from the tip to the tail of the ski. Is there any reason why you do it the other way around while sharpening edges? thanks so far

Amazing. Each video I watch makes me more and more confused. I purchased a ski tuner kit. Came with a lot of stuff, but no nylon brush for example. It has a nylon/copper brush though. So I need to buy a nylon brush. Some video says you MUST use a cleaner wax. Some like this don't even mentions this. I did use a power sander as the surface had a lot of small scratches and got tired of the manual sanding. I used 600 and then 1500 grit sandpaper. The bottom now is smooth. I think I also removed all the old wax with simple green and of course the sanding. I have a "wax" absolutely no idea what temperature it is, so I will need to hope it is what I need. So many different techniques and procedures and I have no idea which one is better or not. I do ski fast and mostly blacks but not really a pro on setup of the ski. I think I will pay for a tune-up next time as it is the most confusing thing I have ever seen. I watched 6 video's and each was a little different and use different tools, different waxes, different brushes, different technique to remove scratch, remove rust, etc. I think my power sander method is the fastest. Not sure if the best but I don't think the ski will mind the small scratches the 1500 grit did. It had a lot more before and those were making the ski surface rough, while now it is completely smooth.

Stephen, Perhaps the question you should ask is 'will it make me a BETTER skier/boarder?'. Speed often disguises bad technique.

I chose this video amongst all the other returned results because the speaker's face was on the thumbnail of the video. I could tell he is older, wiser and has been doing this for a long time. I didn't want to learn this from a young punk. Well done! Very helpful video.

Horsehair brush vor firm and icy snow. Nylon brush for soft snow.

Do not and I can't stress this enough, do not ever touch the base edge. As a 20 year ski tech this will ruin your skis and it will be very difficult to ever get your ski back to running great.

This guy is awesome! Although I still think it's dumb to wax the ski and then scrape it off, let's be real it doesn't fucken soak in! They are made of metal and fiberglass or carbon fiber those material wrong absorb fucken wax!
@richardcole4776
@richardcole4776 Год назад
Yes - and the earth is flat, and we never went to the moon. It's called science, and if you used a magnifying glass you would see the surface is porous and able to absorb a tiny layer of wax. When you wax a car you don't leave the thick circles of wax all over the top of the paint, you buff the wax off until you can't even see that there's wax there - yet water runs off it quickly.
