"The Unalome is a Buddhist symbol, featuring a single line that spirals, twirls and ends in a straight line. Although simple in appearance, the Unalome holds within it the entire philosophy of human existence.
In Buddhism, the Unalome represents the path we take in life; it’s a representation of our journey - the story of our lives. The path can be winding or convoluted, but it eventually ends in a straight path, symbolizing mental freedom and enlightenment. Often, the image of a lotus is placed at the very top of the Unalome, which adds the symbolism of the lotus to the image."
In Hungarian Unalom means Boredom.
Boredom is a disinterested state of mind; a mood, emotional level or state of mind where one cannot decide what to do and prefers to be inactive when one could be doing something. It is listless and indecisive. It is difficult to persuade of the goodness of an action, it is impossible to get a decision from it. He would rather think things over than act.
Boredom is a certain imbalance, the cause of which can be due to a variety of more distant sources: fatigue, boredom (with pleasures, impressions), the lack of interest or understanding of the subject of our occupation, etc. The feeling of boredom is a warning that the impressions of the moment are uninteresting to us and, since this feeling is one of the unpleasant ones, we try to get rid of it. Boredom, according to Pascal, is part of our humanity; but we must add that it is only the young child who cannot be bored. The desire to escape boredom is expressed in the search for amusement, entertainment, work. According to Rousseau, a 'mere' or 'natural' human existence, far from any cultivation, would free us from boredom; others believe that an active, full life would free us.
In school, boredom is, according to Herbart, a "mortal sin". The teacher must therefore strive to teach in an interesting way, that is to say, in a way that is suited to the interests of the pupils ; this is "attractive pedagogy". The cause of boredom may be too much or too little imagination; the teacher must therefore strike the right balance, i.e. he must start from the pupils' imagination."
