Shave Horse Designs and Fanbirds - Sean Hellman Interview 

This is fascinating. I’m ordering his book today and building a shave horse like this immediately. My young daughter loves to use a draw knife but can’t ever keep a piece steady, this will really help her out tremendously.

Been looking all over for a visual example of Sean's shave horse as it seems pretty unique in the fact that it is set up differently than others I have seen. What a talented guy - his skills are really something else!

Just suggested your title to my city library in oder that they may get it in stock (in Canada). Fingers crossed! (ps: I first learned about your Easy Rider shaving horse from Ben Laws book, and I have my raw materials half way ready to make it. I cant wait - it will be serving both adults and children where I live, and I hope to inspire them at a young age into green woodworking. My daughters are already keen whittlers. This device will enable so much more and make the process so enjoyable)

I also ordered a book. For years I would like to build a Shave horse and have not yet found a convincing design. This book will certainly help me.

I have a perfectly good shave horse. Classic american design ( I think ). Use it a lot. Now , thanks to you Harry I have a new book I just ordered and have to build a new shave horse or two.

Just ordered the book. Can’t wait. Since my stroke I’ve been working with my hand. I’m in a wheelchair now so looking for ideas to combine the traditional shave horse and wheelchair attached base. I’m more focussed on making traditional Bushcraft bucksaws I used to teach Bushcraft so it’s a nice way to keep my hands in and get stronger again. Thanks for the vid. Tom

Great video Harry, I was lucky enough to have a couple of my horses included in the book by Sean. Having just got a copy I haven't read it all the way through yet but it looks very thorough and well laid out with incredible amounts of valuable information gained and well explained by Sean. My Favourite holding device so far has been a bowl horse for it's versatility but I'm going to have to build myself an easy rider next!

I was wondering what happened to Sean, hasn't posted a video on RU-vid in over a year! Glad to see something from him and know he is still around! Great video Harry!

Just getting into the traditional hand tools thing. I am really impressed by Sean’s innovative design. Wow I think his book will make coffee table status ! Heh
