Love using a safety razor on my head. Even as a white person I have a bit of a time with ingrown hairs mostly on the back of my neck and the safety reasons razor has eliminated that problem for me.
No sweat. Safety razors are the best. I would highly Reccommend that you get a better razer ....muhle, Edwin jagger. $40. And up. I use a muhle 89r. Works great. Before the shave soap I would recommend coconut oil on your head. Adds additional slickness and it’s good for your skin anyways.
I'm happy to see it worked so well for you bro. In all honesty, that same razor worked well for my face, but it cut my head up pretty badly. That said, it was my first time shaving my head and I didn't know I needed oil before shaving cream. I just used the shaving lotion I had
Im a couple of years behind you but I did some research and pulled the trigger on a Merkur Futur. Its my first but its fantastic. The weight is perfect, and its beautiful. A work of art. I'm looking for good blades now. I hear the Feather blades are too sharp for beginners. Thanks, keep it clean. "I wouldn't get caught dead without a bald head" ~ Onyx, Sticky Fingers
Thanks for the video! Been trying to work up the courage to go bald for the first time and this definitely helped make me feel like I’d be able to do it myself sometime soon.
Gotta give you props for doing that...I gave myself a safety razor for Christmas this year. Knowing I was gonna get to open it in a few days I watched your video and got all excited about using this thing on my head. Cut the shit outta myself. Gave it another go a few days later and same result. I guess I've gotten used to my Pro Fusion 5-blader and the fact that I don't end up bloody after a shaving, so I'm going back to that. I guess with practice and a more careful approach I could finally get used to the safety razor, but I'm just gonna go back to what's easy and works for me. But thanks for the video...
First, you've got a great beard! Thanks for the video, I just shaved my head for the first team at the barber (going bald lol) so now I'm about to finish the job at home with my safety razor. I was pretty worried about how I looked bald and couldn't give up the hair but once I did I reckon it looks better especially since I'm growing my beard.
Would you recommend the safety razor for someone who is just starting out on the bald journey? As long as they aren’t pressing down that is.... if not, what blades would you recommend for beginners?
Nice vid! That Van Der Hagen was my first safety razor too a few years ago & I haven't turned back. I've since bought a few different ones that are more aggressive depending on how much hair I have to cut. I use a straight razor for my beard though. I'll hit it with my liners then clean up with the straight. I've been trying to tell people how much more cost effective it is but they're hooked on the cartridges. Also, I'll typically use one blade a few times before I change it without any issues.
Vaughn Sanders 🙏🏽 I definitely have no complaints. The safety razor does exactly what I need it to do. A nice clean cut and saves me money in the long run. Stay blessed my G!!
Try the Polsilver Super Iridium blades, and an adjustable DE razor like the Merkur Futur or the Parker Variant. 👍🏽 Also check out Bullgoose Shaving's website.
I usually use the double edge safety razor to line up my beard / shave face. Then I go with the grain with the safety razor... then I’ll switch to my cartridge razor and go against the grain... I find it a bit of a hassle to shave against the grain with the safety razor whereas with the bic hydro 3 the hair just comes off like a charm.
Good shit. I use a safety for my head and straight for my face(lining my beard). You can get a better angle with the straight razor for the beard. Cool thing is they use the same razors.
AL Boogie Does the safety razor cut closer than cartridge razors? I have a 5 blade that cuts close but I'm interested in the safety razor. I get mixed reviews where people say it's not a close shave.
AllAmericanGuy01 The Slant Safety Razors Apparently Give You a Closer Shave According To Many Used It, But If Your Beginning To Start Wet Shaving, It's Not Recommended for Beginners
I'm in Sally's about to buy some trimmers for my head and lining up the beard, and my phone was dead. I had to leave I gotta see what you use first, you have been very helpful .
I use a Gillette safety razor from the 70's I found at my grandparent's, and all I use is water, no lathering at all, only nicked my head a handful of times, great video
I’ve just used the double edge safety razor the first time, feels amazing compared to a normal razor! How long do you leave your head before you shave it again?
Is the safety razor the same as a straight razor? My father and I have sensitive skin I want to try this but I don’t want to get those razor bumps on the back of my neck 😬
Compared to cartridge razors, how close does this shave? I use a 5 blade razor and don't feel any fuzz after I'm done shaving. Does this produce the same results?
Wha sup man , when you shave ya head , dont you feel multiple directional grains. If you don't I do. Whats ya input to go with the grain. My back go down sides go down but the top go both ways ,
Looks like you are using a $10.00 Weishi safety razor. Mildest razor on the market. You would almost have to take the blade out of the razor to cut yourself. Get yourself a Merkur long handle razor. Very mild as well and it makes a better grip/angle when shaving your head. You can more easily reach way back and have a more ergonomically pleasing grip on the razor.
I would like to shave my boyfriends head, but I'm reaaaaally afraid of knicking him with the razor... The last time i tried, i didnt use the clippers to get his hair down as close to his scalp and I think that may be an important step
Sup B. Man every week that passes my hairline is reciding and it's going farther back. I kinda wanna shave it off and my wife wants me to aswell but I'm kind of on the fence about it. I'd just have to figure out how to keep my beard looking fresh and what tools I need to shave my head and how often to shave and things like that. What's your take on being bald? Pros? Cons? Thanks bro
Steven Wilson hey man I had to comment.. I started receding at 18 and started shaving about 20 I'm 29 now. Just do it bro there's a period you have to go through that sucks. Kills your confidence and just gotta get used to it visually. The sooner you do It the sooner your a bald guy and not the guy that just shaved his head. Bald is beautiful man and with the beard it's a statement. My girl says guys with hair and beards don't look right 😂 so I just shave every day, makes it easier and if your going to be bald keep it fresh. Then I focus on my beard line, health and growth. Keep the beard right it's there for the long haul!!! Big step man let me know how it turns out!
eli johnson hey bro thanks for the input. Last night I started ordering all of the things I would need to maintain my beard and shaving my head. So in the near future I'll take a leap of faith and shave it off. I know it's gonna take a bit to get used to but I'm sure in the end it'll work out. Again bro thanks for the advice appreciate it.
Steven You will feel awesome & clean afterwards. Try feather blades see if they work for you. Imho they are perfect. Keep it fresh if you like or be lazy like me and shave it with clippers every fortnight, then use the safety razor to make it smooth. No more wasting time & money getting haircuts & can line up the beard at home. Simple Living High Thinking.
I've actually been shaving my head for about 3 weeks and I love it. I shave Sundays and Wednesdays. I was using a safety razor but I'm thinking about switching to a razor that pivots cause I have trouble shaving the back of my head. But yea shaving makes life so much easier
I have owned this razor for a long time, the only complaint I would have is that you can't lock the razor in their. The bottom always comes lose on me...
Depends on what’s more comfortable to you. I personally like the 5 blade because I get better angles and have more control. If you’re really prone to bumps I would try the safety razor since it’s less blades. With some tend skin and after shave you should be fine tho
Those disposable multi-blade razors will give us brothers razor bumps. It's the way the blades cut our hair that causes it to grow and curl beneath the skin.
Marcus Reese for me I think it will definitely take some practice. That straight razor could be a lil tricky. I'm still trying to get better with it on the beard.
