Shawn saying i got i got no bias after saying hed be uncomfortable around a whole community of asians and his whole fuckin shit with hispanics is insane
Bro forgot about the Vietnamese and won’t even attempt to back up his claim he can spot the difference Vietnamese tend to be a little bit darker than northern East Asians, and they have a tiny bit of Indian admixture, it’s sort of a gradient in indochina going from India (obviously) to china, where people sort of look kind of like both, with Thai people really being in the middle.
I fuck with Shawn for real, but as a son of Mexican immigrants (a Chicano), I'm not gonna lie: it's kinda strange how shawn keeps doubling down on this "joke" that he's racist against Latinos. Like I'm not one to get offended by trivial micro-aggressions or whatever cause that's weak, but I do care about it enough to say something because I really like Shawn. Come on man, you're doing it intentionally now. Based on his reaction to that woman at 12:28 spouting the dumb take we all know well, `a systemically oppressed race can't be [interpersonally] racist,' I know Shawn understands that everyone's responsible for managing and unlearning their own prejudices (which includes interpersonal racism), regardless of race. That's the definition of being anti-racist, as the woman at 18:04 expressed so well. So, he should know that he's responsible for managing his ideas about being uncomfortable in majority-Asian neighborhoods and his probable discomfort with Latinos. And even if we're talking about systemic racism, like come on man. Immigrant families like mine literally come from the third world. You think our people don't *currently* suffer the brunt of US imperialism and neo-colonialism far more than any culture that exists within the United States? I've lived in México and have tons of family still living there, and even though I'm a US citizen, I know many undocumented immigrants, so I'm not pulling shit out of my ass here or projecting the suffering of my people onto me. The cartel's existence is predicated on the continued criminalization of drugs in the US and other developed countries, even though the war on drugs has been a demonstrable failure. For every African American that is a victim of the war against drugs, either by death or incarceration, *at least* 10 Mexicans are killed, tortured, kidnapped, and raped. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The CIA and US military have for more than a century ravaged and destabilized Latin American governments in the name of capitalism/colonialism. As a consequence, the US is directly responsible for the murder of thousands upon thousands of Latin American civilians. They are still doing this: look at Venezuela, look at Cuba, look at Nicaragua. The abysmal conditions of these countries are strongly linked to US action. Bolton fucking admitted the US attempted a goddamn coup in Venezuela in 2017! So, it frustrates me a bit when motherfuckers living in the imperial core (the US) jump on this horse of `the only racism out there is systemic' in order to absolve themselves of responsibility for their own prejudice (and possibly seething anger) against other ethnicities. I know Shawn doesn't subscribe to this idea, so I hope Shawn's just being unserious because it does make me kind of sad to be honest.
Why waste your time. Black americans are programmed since childhood to believe they are oppressed by everyone and that they cant be racists no matter what.
@@Andioop69420 I get that sentiment and that's how I've rationalized it, but it's just gotten weirder and weirder imho, that's why I wrote what I did. Needed to get it off my chest. You can disagree with me if you like, but that's just my perspective as a Mexican.
I feel like the most racist thing i do is engage in conversation with non white people so they don’t think I’m racist. Like if I was serving a white customer at work I might not talk to them, but if they’re Asian and I’m completely silent I’ll think “what if they think I’m racist”
@@-khayri-4280 you didn’t read the full thing, I’m talking about THOUGHTS. wdym “stop doing that” it’s no different to being on a plane and thinking “it would be really bad if I shouted something about a bomb” it doesn’t mean you’re gonna act on it
@The Burger King In your comment, you made it sound like you did act on it. You literally said, "The most racist thing I do is engage in conversation with non white people so they don't think I'm racist." That implies that it's something you actually do. Fix yo wording
Bro even as a black person that's mad annoying to hear. We all have been around other people of color and heard them say some wild shit. Just because black people aren't the majority of senators doesn't mean they can't say some crazy ass racist bullshit about other people tf
.As well we're forgetting that survival instincts are not only in animals, but in humans as well. We see someone who doesn't look like us, quickly we deem it as danger. Also even people who look like us we deem them as danger because of things that happened to people we know, what we see on the news, experiences, etc.
I think that a lot mistake prejudice and racist. I think most people are prejudice, and its nothing wrong to have preferences to a certain race or gender or select group. Its literally human nature to be this way. But racism is to keep a certain race from progressing in society and this is unacceptable.
We are playing word games here You’re defining racism as necessary being a part systemic. But there are 2 types of racism, interpersonal racism and systemic racism. Interpersonal racism is when your being prejudiced towards someone due to their race Systemic racism is seen when we look at society in large through statistics, the black crime and poverty rate vs the white one, the likely hood to be hired while having a “white” name vs a “black” name, police brutality statistics, etc. People cannot be systemically racist, only systems can be systemically racist And only people can be interpersonally racist, and a system cannot be on its own Instead you are redefining racism: colloquially defined as prejudice towards someone’s race, (what most people call “racism” and “being racist”; and redefining systemic racism as the term “racism” It’s a distinction that is made to argue that black peoples cannot be racist, but the actual answer is black people do not have systemic privilege over whites in America, and whites do not suffer under systemic racism in America. I hate to break it to you, but if you have preferences towards people of certain races, you have biases against those of certain races, and you are, by the definition of being prejudiced against someone due to the color of their skin: racist And you should do your best to unlearn these things, as should everybody to have a happy healthy society (Obviously that won’t necessarily fix systemic racism, because the only thing that can fix a systemic issue is changes to the system, AKA policy, meaning changes made by our government) Sorry if this is long, but I hear this argument from people a lot and it annoys me to no end, despite only coming from a place of ignorance, not malice.
@@adamtrott78 Well said. Growing up black and hearing that other people of color and especially black people can't be racist is nuts. Like yeah we can't oppress other races through systems and government etc. But I know plenty of black people that are damn near Maga supporters if their skin wasn't as dark as it is
@@jamesss8656 this definition works for me if we are trying to put everything we consider racism under one definition. the world typically in this definition is very important, as my point is you can be racist as an oppressed group and you can be racist towards a privileged group, but obviously it’s not typically the case.
This is a stupid question, there is no scale, it’s like asking how much fecal matter is acceptable in your drinking water. A little? A lot? None, none is the only acceptable answer. The gaslighting is insane.
That’s just not how power structures work. That definition of racism is like a child’s understanding. It’s the shit you learn in your Community college 1st year class. Talk that shit in any actual sociology circles-white or black. You will get laughed out.
Idk sometimes it's really ez for me but sometimes not Like I started volunteering and I instantly recognized one of my fellow Volunteers as Japanese but like I can't do these Japanese vs Korean quizzes for the life of me lmao
