Kemp belongs in the HOF. His stats are good enough and if you look at his impact on the game and the kinds of plays he made, he clearly deserves a HOF spot. Put him, Payton, and Calabro in together and dedicate a section to the 3 of them.

Agree 100%....His last 3 seasons do not diminish the previous 11 seasons...6 time All-Star (should've had 1 or 2 more)...3x All-NBA 2nd Team (should've had 2 more)...Top 60 All-Time Rebounds & Blocks...Very durable, played at least 78 games 10x in 13 full seasons (64, 68 & 75 other 3 seasons)...played 80+ games 6x...Ben Wallace & Yao Ming are HOF so it makes no sense that Shawn Kemp is not.

Him and GP were my favorite duo in the 90s and I lost some respect for them thru the 2000s and 2010s but now I'm fully back after this podcast and the Kemp and Payton interview with Simply Seattle cuz they were more organized and honest and respectable then they rubbed some people back in the day.

How does Chris Bosh get elected to the HOF and not Kemp? Kemp was a superior all-around player than Bosh. Plus, was lot more exciting player as well.
@user2176
@user2176 Год назад
helps being Lebron's buddy I guess. Bosh was a good player for Toronto and had a lot of heart, but they are worlds apart when it comes to athleticism and impact on the game. Kemp's impact was more like Vince Carter's impact on the league and with the fans. I'd take Kemp and Vince any day over Bosh and Ray Allen.
@Joseph-lz5er
@Joseph-lz5er Год назад
@@user2176 Kemp also had great team success in Seattle. Sonics were one of best teams during the 90s. Plus, he along with GP were the top two players on that team. Can make the case that either of them was the top player on that team. Whereas Bosh as the top player in Miami (once Lebron left) with Wade and in TO were decent to bad teams. You can even make the case that Kemp was also the best player of the Dream Team 2 as well. He dominated the tournament. Shame HOF committee elected Bosh before Kemp.

Mostly Kemp has been honest in his post Cannabis Seattle interview tour BUT I find a few fibs. Like the All star nods over Barkley and Malone. It was never really over Malone. It wasn't over Rodman either usually since Rodman was only a Westerner two seasons before his 99 post Bulls dwindling nothing after Chicago career. And Robinson or Hakeem were never benched for Kemp. He got Barkley a few times and the West benefitted from a weak SF lineup in the 90s. Dominique Wilkins and Grant Hill and Pippen were in the East. The West didn't have depth at the 3 so 4's dominated the All NBA first team and the all star lineups. More so in the West. So he only occasionally benched Barkley which is impressive but there were no SFs to speak of. Even Glen Rice was Miami or Charlotte until 99. And Larry Johnson was East as well I think his entire career. And the more aggregious exaggeration is about Hakeem The Dream Olajuwon. Kemp did not get the better of Hakeem. Unless of course he's speaking 🗣️ from a team standpoint thru the prism of he as extension of the Sonics team. As I'd suspect because of he and Gary Payton's team oriented philosophies and mode of speaking. They genuinely seem like team guys as part of their identity 🆔. Which is cool to hear. But here was Hakeem's numbers in 18 playoff games vs Kemp: 41.7 MPG 21.5 PPG 12.1 RPG 3.9 APG 1.7 SPG 2.8 BPG 3.6 TPG 8.7 FGM PG 16.4 FGA PG 53.0 shooting percentage Here's Kemp's numbers in those 18 playoff games: 35.7 MPG 18.3 PPG 11.4 RPG 2.7 APG 1.3 SPG 1.4 BPG 3.4 TPG 6.4 FGM PG 13.5 FGA PG 47.3 shooting percentage Now their regular season matchups are worse cuz Hakeem stays close to those averages while Kemp drops in ppg and other stats because of the role changes he faced in short order playing on stacked Sonics rosters and being young out of highschool and being rotated more thru-out his career than Olajuwon. They had 32 regular season matchups FYI. I will also add that Kemp may still be right cuz Hakeem put up better than his regular season averages up in the playoffs as Hakeem is one of the few even all time greats that exponentially grew larger in the postseason. Very few. Stockton did not get better in the postseason, even Bird stayed around his regular season production in the playoffs. It's like Air Jordan, Magic Johnson and Hakeem Olajuwon as the 3 greatest to become even greater in the postseason and exceed their regular season scoring averages or assist and rebound averages in the postseason thru-out their career so that their numbers in 10-15 playoffs exceed those they put up in 10-18 regular seasons. Reggie Miller is another one who goes from like 19 ppg to 25 ppg in the playoffs. And there are others I'm forgetting but from the Magic, Bird, Jordan era there are very few like the guys I mentioned and Isiah Thomas and maybe Dominique Wilkins whom actually upped their averages in postseason whom were already great in the regular seasons. But against Kemp and Seattle it does appear Hakeem in the playoffs was actually just his normal regular season self. I know Hakeem had that monster 49,25 and 6 blocks game vs Seattle in 87 or 89 too but that was pre Kemp. So Kemp may be onto some reality there. But I'd still say Hakeem had the individual edge on Kemp and his fg% is actually high for Hakeem's typical just over 50% shooting percentage. Since I guess Hakeem took some hits on his fg% unlike Barkley or Shaq cuz of maybe his dream shakes and fadeaways being a tad bit great reward and mentionable risk. Interesting this Rockets Sonics Jazz Sonics rivalries. They kind of shaped who'd win the 94 and 95 titles even though Seattle took themselves out of those races with shocking upsets to teams they had little business losing to.

He never said he got the best of Hakeem olajuwon in the playoffs you goofball pay attention! Shawn said he never had a problem playing against Barkley because of the height advantage. And he said he had some fear playing against Karl Malone at the beginning of his career 🤦🏿‍♂️
