Everything "shawn" was popping in this performance. The clarity, the feel, the way he'd change the leverage of his body against the guitar when he changed (insane) picking techniques during the solos, the pitch, the brief chicken picking....just wow.
Yeah Shawn is so active here. Never seen him dancing as much here. He musnt’ve been in much pain at this period. And that melody. It’s on repeat in my head now haha
@FreedomZealot While I completely respect Mike Stern, from my perspective this is a much better and more interesting version not to mention the astonishing solo. My best to Mike Stern and Shawn Lane's family. Miss you Shawn...
Shredders shredder is great!! He sooo is. Not specifically saying I’m a shredder but I’ve tried to show people Shawn Lane and they can’t hold focus. Oh yeah that’s ok....what?! It’s neeext level skill haha
To call Shawn a shredder is almost an insult... he was a fabulous composer and musician... the speed and technical prowess were only a part of his toolkit.
This theme is the best . I played this with band and when I learned it I was completly confused with combination of tonal lines with harmony. Mike was killer....thanks...
Hmm - not sure what to make of this - I’m not sure Shawn lane can play through changes - did he ever just play Autumn Leaves or anything else straightforward - the beauty of this original track by Mike is that he fuses bebop rock and funk - for all the chops on display here - and the nice interpretation of the head - well I’ll just behave and stop here…
