This open bodybuilding. Aesthetics aren’t the only thing. It’s physique is prettier but dexter has 30lbs on him prime vs prime. He would dwarf him on stage and he wasn’t even a mass monster. Ray would do well in classic though

Yeah, I much prefer pre insulin days bodybuilding (before 1995). Here in the back double biceps pose for example, ray has much more details and separation than jackson. There are almost zero striation with dexter, whereas we can see them on, at least, the traps, the lower lats, the delts with ray. Jackson looks watery in comparison. And jackson had a 3D waist to go with that. In the early 90s, they were smaller but displayed more quality.

Oil (or whatever they used back then) was a million times better than what they use now. The weird super dark stuff from the past few years rubs off in the armpits and groin making them look a horrible yellow, and the parts where it's not rubbed off just look too dark to see anything

Levrone was amazing but soft, with bad legs and no bicep separation, no back separation most of the time, Flex was a coin flip early on, he lacked too much size (but he had a very nice physique, let’s be real), had bad lat spreads, Nasser was inconsistent in conditioning, Shawn was too small. Great on his own, a lot worse when standing next to somebody bigger. Dorian was arguably the only threat for today’s top bodybuilders and even he had a lot or arguable winning years, with no arms and symmetry later on in his career. Weird legs as well. Dexter would smoke a big portion of 1990-1996 line ups, who knows what kind of damage would Jay’s, Phil’s And Kai’s physique do in those years. Now factor in today bodybuilders like Hadi and Big ramy. Their conditioning and raw amount of muscle would be too much for most of the top 90-96 bodybuilders. Hell, even Hassan with his “bad” conditioning would be a menace, due to how insane his physique is. Arguably some of the best wheels ever, easily one of the best guns that would be on stage, very thick chest, not bad mid section and calves (not Mr O material with his conditioning tho). Modern bodybuilders are in another era, they are for the most cases, way more complete. Why I stated 90-96? 97-98-99 and onwards were the most stacked years ever, with prime Ronnie, Chris Cormiere, bigger Flex, etc

@@Gaeldx Nope. When Ray and such were competing Classic didn't exist. It was just bodybuilding. And you can't judge Aesthetics. It's impossible. Because if you place Ray, Arnold and Flex on the same stage and ask who you'd rather look like you'd start a war because of the different answers. That's why mass and conditioning are emphasized because unlike aesthetics you can actually judge them objectively.

@@Gaeldx pretty much the same. There is more emphasis on shape, proportion, and a slim waist, but overall, the best classic physique competitors are the ones who look the biggest and sharpest. Look at cbum, he's huge compared to the others. But on an aesthetic level, who do you pick? They all look aesthetic and it comes to personal preference.

Yeah not sure how he has Dex beating him on several poses. Maybe most muscular and side chest...but the rest go to Ray imo.

Dexter's symmetry was also better so and yea perhaps Shawn looked like a walking greek statue, Dexter's physique is more impressive imo at least due to the difficulty of obtaining a physique like that

Yeah, so if Yates would have come in off 2 years in a row, then maybe, he would have won one then. Dexter is a freaking legend, but I think it is clear that Jay lost that 2008 Olympia more so than Dexter won it. Jay was off, like he was off in 07 which was a gift. Dorian's worst (97) was still impressive enough for the judges to give him the nod. I'm not saying that some Mr O titles worth more than another. Dex was there, he looked amazing and won. But he defeated a bodybuilder who would have won against Dex 9 out of 10 times (like he did during their career).

Yep and who was Ray competing against and who was Dexter competing against. The talent pool was far superior in Shawn Ray era.

The best way is how Kai greene does it. Actually go from a retracted shoulder state and roll them forward (it doesnt scrunch it how you think) then arch the lumber /lower back and lean back (emphasize leaning the thoracic region back). The end result is the shoulders althought being rounded forward, end up being behind or in like with the neck/head, rather than being in front of the head
