Did the south loop . The end of your video explaining the loop was spot on. Wish I would have seen your video before doing south loop. It took me and my brother 2 days. Not going to lie. It kicked me in the teeth!!!! Doing North loop soon. Thanks for your advice. Just did counter clock wise to camp 7 and back for conditioning to get ready for North loop.

This is the first video I have ever commented on...this is a very informative video. I just did the North Trail and I wanted to thank you for hints about the first cistern before Camp 1. It's a beautiful hike. Water...the cisterns were available and filled but just in case there is plenty of natural water available as well. Great tips and thank you very much for this video.

Great video! I live in the area and just started hiking this past year. This video really showed me how prepared I need to be for that loop. Thanks again for posting!

Thanks for the videos. My brother, Wilt and I all hiked the North Loop this past weekend. We had a great time. I think we all watched your video several times in preparation. We will be going back to do the South loop soon as we get a chance. Thanks again (Pharmer)

Straight up,no switchbacks...yep that's a pretty accurate description of a lot of ST.Camp 6 is the best campsite there I think.Beautiful.We didn't get to camp there either,but I hope to some day too.Sad someone trashed it.#4 isn't too bad.I'd like to do the Wilderness Area trail there at camp 6 someday.That prescribed burn was done before I hiked it about 4 yrs ago.Nice review of the trail.Thanks for posting!

Good video and information. I day hiked 14 something miles(old backpack trail) at Shawnee couple months back. My ankles gave up at the end of the hike. My legs are not used to lot of ups and downs of Shawnee. But I am planning to go back to Shawnee for a another day hike or backpacking trip. Backpackohio website is really informative. Thanks for the recommendation.

Spent many of days and nights in the SNF. Since 1979 through 2014. Too many GPS marked camp sites to show. Most off trail, undiscovered by the trail slugs. Beautiful places in S.I. Carry on, my wayward sons!

This video came up on my suggested list & I was like 'wait, Kyle hiked over in Shawnee?' Then I realized it wasn't the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois, but a different Shawnee Forest. Dude, you put in the mileage. My legs would have been like rubber after day 1. Good stuff though!

Not sure, but it seems like you are either Ohio based or Michigan based...either way I really enjoy all your videos. As an alternative to the lake Vesuvius area I was wondering if you had looked into the trails in the Marietta Unit of the Wayne. There are twenty+ miles of trails and various loops in the area of Leith Run Rec. Area. FYI. Maybe a video in that area in the future? Finally, Thanks for the great work you do and have a great 2015.

Does it cost money to camp at the tent sites? I’m pretty sure that you can reach that trail from Worleys run turning onto state forest road 14. I haven’t been there before but I’m wanting to camp there. It looks really peaceful

It has been a few years since I have completed the trail. At the time it was free. Not sure about now. Sorry.

I hike Shawnee often. I have heard coyotes almost every time I camp overnight, but twice I heard what sounds like a pair of wolves communicating with longer, deeper howling, not the yip-yap of coyotes. Did that German Shepard that frightened you at 4:45 have a collar or was it impersonating a wolf? Or a wolf impersonating a German Shepard?
@richardreed2839
@richardreed2839 6 лет назад
There are no wolves in Ohio sir, I think you may have heard something quit different,,,,id be interested in just what you heard sounded like.

Those plants with the large leaves looked like princess trees. Was the dog accompanied by an owner, or was it feral?
@juniperspringz
@juniperspringz 5 лет назад
Right on. The Paulownia or Princess Tree is considered invasive in the US.

Did you see any snakes during your hike? I am interested in checking this out but am afraid of poisonous snakes
@agawied2910
@agawied2910 6 лет назад
bsommer It's the wild, their are definitely snakes (only thing to worry about in Shawnee are copperheads). If you're not camping next to water it isn't very likely you'll even see a copperhead, if you do. Walk around it.

Was it a wild dog or was an owner able to calm it down?
@BurleyOutdoors

KrisMTL It was someones dog that they were walking off leash and they were about 30 feet behind the dog.

Good video! At 7:30 does anyone else notice the leaves moving abruptly? I didn't see or hear any wind blowing. I watched it a few times but maybe my imagination.
@chrisdaniel8306
@chrisdaniel8306 9 лет назад
Nam Ji All I could find was the sound of the leaves when he started to turn the video camera around for a different view, other than that it does appear like the leaves are moving near the top of the screen if you have it set to a lower quality setting but when you change your settings to a higher quality setting you can clearly see that none of the leaves are moving that I could see... yeah, I cant believe that I just spent the time to investigate that... lol....

At 2:49 a leaf appears to jump on its own. I saw nothing at 7:30.

I really liked the AAR that you conducted at the end of the video. I could have done without the "straight up" and "straight down" hyperbole though.
