They weren’t “just” text messages, Roman. It shattered that woman’s entire world and publicly.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m so happy they worked it out after he was unfaithful. But the audacity of the men to downplay his actions in front of the woman who almost divorced him over it…. Just wow.

Shame on you Roman for saying "it's not a big deal and it was blown out of proportion" right to the face of a woman who was publically humiliated. Like damn the audacity lol

If Brittney would be sending that kind of messages to other dudes at 1 AM I bet Roman wouldn’t consider them as ”just text messages”.

Roman cut off collette so many times and/or just totally disregarded what she said. Very sad, I love collette, I wish I could hear just her talk.

Omg how are you literally sitting in front of a woman who was cheated on and publicly humiliated by her husband, and saying that it “wasn’t a big deal” and “was blown out of proportion”??! Like, where the hell did you get that much audacity?

Colette is once again downplayed in this podcast - she is the backbone of the relationship and was always a positive light in their content. I could never have stayed with him, she is a strong and fierce woman.

The fact that Roman and Brittany both agree that it wasn’t a big deal blows my mind

It did make me sad for Colette hearing Roman talk about how it was “just text messages”. As someone who has gone through this as well (partner online cheating), it doesn’t feel that way. It is completely devastating and has so many layers beneath the text messages of dishonesty, distrust, lack of connection, confusion, so many negative feelings. On top of that, Colette being a public figure and having to process in the spotlight. I think that was flippant of Roman to say and he should have acknowledged Colette’s pain.

Colette really is the back bone of their relationship -I'd love for to do her own podcast or write a book. Just to hear her stories from her point of view. She seems so wise and so well spoken. You can tell she has been through a lot in her life and she has real advise to give.

The take around “just sending some messages” bothered me. It’s so much more, a marriage of 10 years, 5 kids.. the trust is gone. Colette is an angel, she is so strong and has an amazing heart to have overcome, forgive and continue to love after that

How dare Roman minimise the situation and brush it off. It would have been humiliating for Collette. It nearly broke their family and ruined their career..

Unsubscribing for disregarding Colette’s feelings on the situation. The lack of sympathy towards her as if it were no big deal was absolutely disgusting. How inconsiderate of you to even act like you know first hand all about this and again shrug it off like no biggie. Why even bring something like that up? Let her continue to heal without being reminded by it. I’m sure it haunts her enough still till this day.

No big deal??? He was texting that woman for 3 months. You think he was drunk the entire time? You think he was drunk when he called the girl disgusting for mentioning his son's name? Or do you think she just popped his fantasy bubble and he got pissed? Drunk texting is when you get drunk and emotional and text an ex, not having a full blown description of every messed up thing you want to do to another woman that isn't your wife and then show her how you're playing with yourself. It's cheating, without question. And after all this time he's still blaming the alcohol and crying to the world about how hard his life is. Nah, he wanted something new and exciting because he got too rich and too bored, just like he said. Seeing how he's never going to take responsibility isn't a judgement call, it's stating the sickeningly obvious. And Roman just kissed his butt the entire time. Nasty asses.

The complete disregard of Colette’s feelings is disgusting.

Stop normalizing cheating. Gross. And right in front of the wife that was cheated on. Nice going. Scumbags.

Poor Colette having to sit there and listen to her being cheated on being called “not a big deal” “just a few messages”. I loved the shaytards growing up but I really wish Colette had left Shay. She deserves much better than to be disrespected like this, especially to her face.

It was frustrating near the end of the episode where Colette was trying to talk about intimacy and Roman kept interrupting to make jokes. She was really trying to share something that I was interested to hear about and she should have been given more respect

No sex is not a guy thing. Sex drive has nothing to do with men vs. women. Listen to Colette! She knows exactly what she’s talking about. Some people need sex to feel loved and some need to feel love to have sex

Wow some of Roman’s takes in this were not it…yikes. Shout out to Collette for being such an incredible person. I look up to her so much, and kudos to her for calling Roman out on his toxicity! Edit: after watching Dana’s video I am absolutely disgusted by Shay’s downplaying. To any young girls out here watching this, Roman’s comments on sex are absolutely wrong and his advice should not be followed

I feel like this was a wasted opportunity. Like the interview was so awkward and off putting. Shay was open and wanting to share his heart and they kept making jokes and minimizing the situation and how it affected their marriage and family. I felt like it was all really disrespectful to both of them but mainly to Colette. I’d be livid having to listen to a guy tell my husband “ it was just some messages to a girl” wtf.

Colette deserves a public apology.

I listened to almost every single episode of When the Kids Go to Sleep. You can tell how much more sure of herself Colette is. She seems so much more confident here in speaking her opinion and the way she thinks and feels about things. It’s so awesome to see that she truly does seem happier and more confident. Not that she used to be sad and insecure, you can just see a positive change in who she is, and that’s nice

I actually felt quite sorry for Colette when Roman and Britt said they felt like Shay’s mistakes were totally blown out of proportion. It’s kind of insensitive towards Colette because at that time, her world came crumbling down around her. It was such a serious thing for them to go through as a family, so to say it blew up out of proportion is a little insensitive I feel. Edit; after watching his older editor/employee Danna’s video about working for Shay, I can category say that this man is a monster. If you have not watched it, please give it a watch. Shay is not the victim here.

Shay Carl didn't lose everything, he made choices. He is not the victim. I was hoping after the work he did we would see a changed person, but self-forgiveness doesn't mean that you wave away your past behavior, it means acknowledging that you can change and taking steps to grow as a person. I hope he can find it in himself to do that.

Glad to see that someone that publicly humiliated their family and his wife is given a platform to brush off his actions and divert blame on literally everything but himself 👏🏼 you had the opportunity to do so much more and you wasted it…

I feel bad for collette when Roman mentioned what shay did and kind of played it off like how it wasn’t that bad. I also feel like she got cut off a lot when trying to really get her valid points of view across .

I feel a completely different way about Roman now. I used to watch his videos all the time when I was younger and still do from time to time but he made it fun and he was so genuine. I’m listening to him now saying things like “it was not a big deal and it was blown out of proportion” and it was “just text messages…”, and saying “oh our relationship is good we just had to stop drinking… I can’t relate..” When the camera is on he’s like a super kind and nice person who love helping people out but when the camera is off he like only cares for himself and his family and no one else. I can’t believe this right now like literally someone I used to look up to i mean we all did we are subscribed to him…🙃😔😔😕 Colette I love u for being genuine human being and being there for ur family.

this podcast made me realize Roman is one of those seemingly nice guys who actually have a lot of internalized misogyny.. disappointing.

I don’t agree with what Roman said about “just some messages” but he did say he was speaking as an outsider, which we all are. A lot of people looked to Shay as the ultimate and perfect father figure, which is childish but it’s more than just messages. It’s the loyalty and trust fractured to do that to your family, friends and everyone who’s supported you.

This was not blown out of proportion. I’m surprised she forgave him and took him back, it was absolutely horrible.

The Shaytards were literally my entertainment in my teens! Crazy to think I'm 27 now listening to this. Glad they are doing well ❤️! I remember hearing about the Shay story a few years ago and being devastated! I was like "Noooo, my internet family!" 🤣

I have lost every shred of respect for both of these men. The downplaying, interrupting, and pure misogyny. Collette barely got a chance to speak and share her perspective. If I were her I would have stood up and walked out. Also. Roman is a child. The conversation around sex was absolutely disgusting. Do not take marriage advice from any of these people ever.

The real Roman is shown in this episode. I'm ashamed to say that I have been a follower for years. Listening to this episode brakes me and is making me reevaluate why I was a Roman fan for so many years.

Roman talking about how sex is the biggest way to be intimate, while Britt is making it abundantly clear that she isn't into it. This is awful.

As a teenager, I was deeply afraid of becoming an adult. Shay and Collette made me realize that growing up doesn't mean that you have to stop having fun or being silly or creative. Life can be just as enjoyable after 30 and after kids, you can choose happiness and levity. That shift in perspective helped release a lot of anxiety for me 💗 So much love for this family.

Poor Brittany. Pressure for sex could kill their relationship. Roman comes across like a self centered, sex obsessed, misogynist. Colette commands respect from Shaycarl now that they've come through the fire, and he gives it to her because he chooses her. I like all of them and admire their willingness to expose some flaws.

Alcohol isn’t the problem it’s the person Shay is just a bad person who hasn’t changed

I truly fell in love with the Shaytards through college. I wasn't mad at Shay for his mistakes. Regardless of background, humans make mistakes, but they don't define our existence. We all struggle to find our identity when a phase of our life ends. high school, college, and family and friendships change all impact our identity, and we struggle to figure out our next steps. We turn to negative behaviors to cope with our changing identity. We are BRUTAL with critique and refuse to understand one another and just place judgment. We make mistakes, we grow, we change, we learn, and we keep going.

I started watching your vlogs in 2010. You were there when my childhood dog died, you were there on my first day of high school, you were there when I moved into my dorm as a college freshman, and I even watched your vlog the morning of my wedding day. When everything went down, I was absolutely heartbroken. I looked up to your marriage so much and had a "if they can't do it, how can I do it?" mentality. I'm SO grateful for your story. In a world where marriages are thrown away, you've shown how much love and work truly goes into a relationship. What a blessing to have a part 2 to your love story. Shay should 100% propose again and y'all can have a magical vow renewal wedding ;)

Roman, the way you literally rolled your eyes and completely down played what was Shay and his Wife's worst moment of their lives is disgusting. I can remember hearing Shay speak about how he was suicidal during the time and this whole interview you were just so dismissive. Shay and Colette, if you ever read this comment before I'm sure it will get deleted, just know how proud we all our that the two of you made your way back to each other and truly put your family first. I can only imagine the shame Shay was feeling. This was not the channel that they should have told their story on and I feel bad that they wasted such a vulnerable opportunity.

Having been cheated on in the past myself, it is very disappointing how the situation was downplayed. I absolutely love the Shaytards and loved them back in the day as well, and I understand that Shay feels terrible for his actions. But once that trust is gone in a relationship, it’s gone…there are ALWAYS those what if’s no matter how much time passes. I feel for Collette. They were SO inconsiderate. 🤦‍♀️

When Shay and Colette talk about each other and the rough patch that was made public, it makes me emotional as I grew up watching them from when I was 15/16 and am now 30 years old. I'm so happy they chose each other and continue to work on themselves separately and together. Also really seeing Colette be so confident makes my heart so happy. I would love Shay and Colette to get back into their podcast game because those were my all time favorite. Loved this episode

I’m 24 now and I practically grew up watching Shaytards. I had a very chaotic home life and definitely gravitated towards their channel for comfort and a sense of family. Every Christmas I could not wait to sit in my room and watch the Christmas specials. Now as an adult, I look up to both of your grace and humility. Thank you both.

Shay was my #1 media influencer when I was a kid. I started watching when I was 13 and I am 24 now. He honestly shaped a lot of who I am as a person, especially dialogue. I quote Shay all the time, lol. My family was always fighting and bickering and tuning it out and watching Shaytards every day was such a safe haven for me. He is the reason I started running. He is the reason I started eating healthier. He is the reason I always tried to choose happiness. He is the reason I can switch my mindset in a bad situation. He is the reason I can be goofy in public. Him and his family have taught me so much and I will always be grateful for that.

i’ve never watched/ listened to this podcast but i used to watch Colette and Shay YEARS ago so naturally when this came up on my home page i had to see how they’re doing and man can i just say watching this genuinely made me so happy. they really have been through hell and back and the fact that they are doing so well makes my heart feel extremely full. not only as a couple/ family unit but as individuals🥹wishing them all nothing but the best 🖤

Perhaps a public eye is quite an incentive to shift it and be with it more quickly. We all make mistakes and I applaud you for going to therapy and doing what is best for YOUR family. And to continue your channel is an example for others. I am glad you addressed the elephant in the room because as much as you brought us inspiration as a fun family, you are also by default in sharing your story, bringing clarity to so many that love you all. People invested their time towards your channel and to acknowledge this, is to acknowledge your fan base. shay and his family quite literally raised me, i remember when i first got my hands on the internet in 2010 and found the shaytards at 6-7 years old. every year i was excited to watch the Christmas specials now i turn 19 in a month and a half and to this day i admire how open their family has been with everything that happened. crazy how long its been. this is by far the best podcast episode
