Thank you for the great video. But why did it have to be so long? (51 minutes)
@TinyHomeTours
@TinyHomeTours 5 лет назад
I am creating these videos for those who want a full detailed tour of a rig. For example, I’m building a skoolie conversion from scratch. The most valuable videos I found were those that went into the most detail. These videos are not made for everyone, they are made for a certain group who wants/needs this info.

I am in the process of building a short bus home and have watched hundreds of videos. This one impressed me a lot. I love it and can see myself living here full time. Clean, bright, safe, secure, and definitely maintainable. Solar and propane on demand water heater keeping it all twelve volt will be an easy transition and make it a perfect, best I have seen home. I say home because this is a home not a camper. Hats off, well done, and congratulations. Definitely not to long and enjoyed every minute.

I loved how you built things to the exact measurements of what they were meant to house (how logical right? Lol) but often it’s done in the other direction and therefore not such a great outcome. I loved your van and I felt it was very practical and livable, including it’s a hangout and fits that many people and also the kitchen and bathroom area was genius. Your stove was great too. Everything was kept clean and simple and practical. I could relate too with your frustrations at the end. As a woman homeowner it happens even with that and contractors. Grrr… Anyways, thanks for sharing your Van-life and happy travels & many peaks to climb ahead.

Awesome video! Full of great ideas. I did a very similar layout and had a lot of similar thoughts and issues. Including: - Being able to open doors at back with two couches at back. - Yes made a special effort to make sure the cushions work as mattress! I made one side a couch, the other a bench seat, so it would be big enough to lounge on comfortably. For anyone else remember you don't have to have a backrest on both sides! Great idea with the incline. - putting vents in the wrong place - smaller windows than I would like. Again longer thin windows would be great! A big suggestion that will change her van life: - Put a Lagun table mount in. It makes getting in and out SO much easier when the table is set up! Just push it over the couch on the other side and the isle is then free.

Lovely seeing you again. Love this video more...you went into details of the van and made us all see how designing and building a van can be less of a headache if we learn from your mistakes and measure out the way you did by using boxes to mimic cabinets on the wall...which btw was a brilliant thing to do. Your toilet is also a brilliant choice. I may eventually get one (on the hopes that the price decreases from 600 to much less...lol). I love the simplicity of it. And though you received frowns on it, who cares, it works for you and it will work perfectly for me. Plus, it saves you on water. I am very conscious of water and electricity waste now living in my home, so I think will be fine with that whole concept. The advice you gave on wiring and the people to hire or look for was priceless. Wish I had known about this van life style sooner. Simplicity, a way to travel and live, and a sense of peace and harmony is all a girl can ask for and this lifestyle will certainly be for me. All of your info was greatly needed and appreciated. I definitely learned alot today. Thanks Sweetie. And again, good seeing you. Safe travels. Namaste.

Your open, spacious design & layout feels totally relaxing. Love the multiple ways you can configure your bed/couch setup & table too, adding to your counter space. I use my computer on an angle adjustable mesh metal rack kind of thing, to keep it cool, & most often sit cross legged on my bed. So I'd most likely put big pillows all around the bed when set up to take up the entire back space, when it's just me, but - like you said, the way you have it, you can have several people over, & it doesn't feel like they're all hanging in your bedroom. Love the thermal drapes & window panels. That fabric looks so retro & yet new again. For those who don't sew, there are thermal drapes with pinch pleated tops. The location of the ceiling fan makes sense, as it's above the cooking area so can take heat out, & it's also over the toilet - so - again, the fan above is a good idea. Also, if taking in the cool night air, it isn't blowing directly on your back & neck when driving, or on your back when in bed. I'd like to get that 3 burner stove. Re: recycling issues - don't buy things that need to be recycled, I guess, or just trash them. These days,I've read that China has stopped taking our recyclables, so - it's become a problem for recycling centers anyway. That Dometic fridge seems like a good size for just one.

@@laineydiamond While growing up in the mountains my parents replaced the 40-year old wood-burning stove and hot water tank with brand new and much larger versions. Hot water literally became unlimited. You could listen to it boiling in the pipe from the kitchen to the roof. As an adult they installed a solar system to their new apartment and I was left flat-sitting for them during a week of little sun. I suffered no problems, but my mother was less than pleased that I hadn't hit the booster switch before they returned.

You can have solar. It's actually better to use portable panels as usually I park in the shade. Get a couple 100w Renogy panels, don't buy Harbor Freight or flexible ones. Except for the fact that she made the same mistake 99.9% of all van/tiny home dwellers make: not utilizing cargo netting for ceiling storage. You essentially have twice the amount of space to work with, yet people rarely do. You can easily throw out multiple cupboards or closets by doing this. Free up floor space by utilizing your ceiling. That should be rule number one for everyone living in a tiny home.

I love your van. I can hear you’re a designer by the way you think about all the bits in such detail and it’s fun to listen to you.

Chris you do such a good job of interviewing and editing. You infrequently get the impression that you are asking questions. The interviewee just seems to explain the details of their build. Lisa seems so cool plus super smart. Or did G do this interview..just realized it was posted 2018.

I'm so impressed that you are an attorney and work from the road. Love hearing the detail of all the thought that went into each decision, etc. I have a 2" Latex topper on my bed, so was very interested on your take on the latex mattress, etc... All the things you 'thought' you might need vs the things you included... All very interesting. Congrats on putting it together... I don't get people wanting shorter videos. Just stop it and come back to it later, or move the little red button forward... everything has to be instant these days... I say, good work.

Lisa! Thank you for the info. I, too, am a single gal, doing vanlife. I am getting ready to cut my roof off (eeks!!!)!!! I located a high top, on a van that's been abandoned in the Mohave desert for about 6 years. I went to the county recorder and they said the property was abandoned when the owner was arrested and is now in prison.... I even asked her what she thinks about getting that. She smirkedand have me a quiet thumbs up. I am so excited, because I would really like to stand up in my chitty chitty bang bang (chi-bang for short). Anyways, I loved your video, and appreciate the info, especially the mattress info. I hadn't thought about this yet (I haven't built my bed yet). I would love to meet up with you sometime. Happy travels! Adele

Smart lady, great ideas! It’s amazing the space we wake n our homes. The two of us bought the smallest home we could for investment purposes here in the Seattle area, and it’s almost 3,000 sq ft. Of that we use about 600 sq ft of it, the rest just collects stuff and dust. People don’t need as much space as we typically have, and as housing gets more and more expensive, gradually people will begin to realize we can get by with much less than we have, and treat the environment as if it’s something we need to exist. Awesome video! Thank you.

It’s called having a movable or removable bed. it’s extremely common. the only people who don’t do that are people who don’t want to have to set up their bed every day when they’re tired.

Ken Olsen You do know that we view the world from our own perspectives? Which means, we tend to view other people through the lens of our own insecurities, failures, and bad qualities. Which mean: when we dislike someone, we are usually projecting our own bad qualities onto that person because we our viewing them THROUGH ourselves. So the fact that you think that about her pink hair....says a whole lot more about who you are as a person than it says about her.
