So this is what it’s all about . Just People helping others to become successful. I’ve said it before Shawna is the most inspiring to me of all the people making Etsy content . She shows you what to do and how to do it . This video helped a lot .
Big hugs! Thanks so much for taking a second to write this super positive message for us! I am so thankful you are a part of this community we are building!
Well she is her friend. But at the same time she has been helpful. Hopefully she won’t join all the other “POD influencers” and say sign up for my course $800 🤦🏽♀️

What an amazing friendship! Shawna is the best friend that I need right now to help me grow my shop 🥺. Recently became a Star ⭐️ Seller this February but I’m not having organic views or sales anymore ☹️. It’s sooo hard! 😩😔
Hey there Robin! Yay! I am so glad you hear from you this morning! That really would be fun! I have kicked the idea of incorporating them some how and doing a live would be a really fun way to do that!
@@shawnalynn2083 Hi Shawna, if you are up for it and can manage to squeeze in into your weekend schedule, I would highly appreciate it ~ due to the time difference we have, I would never be able to participate into a live on weekdays.
Lyneida mentioned it's easy to forget to set daily sales up every day. I have a great tip though, you can batch this and set each daily sale up in advance so they run automatically everyday and you don't forget. When you go to the page to set up your sale use the calendar and select the start date and then select the same day as the end date and it creates a sale for just that day (I usually use the date as the sale name to keep it simple like 061423) but the trick is you can repeat this for every day in the future. So at the end of the month I go in and set up a daily sale for every day of the next month so it's already set and I don't have to remember to do it every day.
I just reached 30 sales. Started in Feb. I have 45 listing now and I’m in the process of revising the listing photos. I sell travel itinerary digital downloads. I remember first time I sent you a message after watching one of your videos, I had not sold any item. Grateful to have 30 sales but it took a long time considering the amount of work and details I put into the listings and product creations. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Laylay! Keep at it! The rewards for your efforts will grow and you will make more and more per hour you are putting in down the road! Congrats on those 30 sales!!!
Thank you for this. I was having a lot of self doubt but these suggestions makes a lot more sense now. No sales yet but definetly a lot more traction on activities like views, favorites etc. This gave me a push to keep going!
I am sorry to hear about the copy cats Lyneida. They went after my group listings too. They attempted to recreate my designs, copied all of my phrases verbatim and used all my SEO. This coupled with a more established shop, with prices a POD seller cannot complete with - - - even with break even pricing, my sales went poof overnight. I am glad that you addressed the impact this has had to your shop. I think that people are chasing down the best seller tags and forget these tactics hurt people. I am also glad that Shawna brought up that this is the nature of the business. I haven't yet figured out how to recover from this loss in sales, but I know that when I do, my business will be stronger.
Hey there Heather! I am so sorry that happen to you! Unfortunately it won't be the last time. I am going to put some videos together on this topic, and I am hoping to get them out there with in the next 2 weeks! For now I would say load your shop up in the niche! Week after week consistently put some new listings out there in it! That is what I do and each of the niches I have done that in make me consistent money!
What a sweet message! Thanks so much for sending this our way! We are so lucky to be a part of a group of such supportive friends that love to do things together. I am so lucky Lyneida jumped on board with doing Etsy with me!
I'm in a kind of specific niche, and I haven't found another store like mine yet, but I'm sure they're out there. I can't imagine copying someone else's work anyway; it's just unethical. I am very proud of everything I create and hope that if I love it, customers will, too.
Absolutely love this ❤ consistency is key. Im currently at 696 sales in my main shop. It's been a year on the 22nd. And in my second shop i hit 700 today and i started that shop in December last year. The skys the limit. 😂
There is another shop on Etsy who has copied some of my jewelry designs exactly! I started making designs that she didn’t have the skill set to make. Lol! It worked. There was no way she could copy those. Now I’m making more than twice the weekly sales as she does. 😅
Awwww that is so sweet. Shawna really gets excited for her friends’ success. And, that is my issue now, I have the info on my hands, but I don’t know how to even begin. Ugh, it’s so frustrating.
Love that you have each other to get through the highs and lows of this. Great video!!! BTW, I'm a fur baby mamma too and now get excited to see Tucker's Tip at the end 😊❤
Thank you so much!! WE are so glad you enjoyed this one MsMemories! And yes! We are so lucky to have each other! I am so glad you are enjoying my little Tucker takes! He keeps things fun around here!
Love the power of coming together. You are a wonderful teacher. Shawna, can you do a video of how to go about finding out if your designs are being used by others and what you can do other than doing the loss leader strategy. Thanks!
❤ you! Great tips! Etsy dinners?! Your friends are lucky! Speaking of, you have great chemistry with Lyneida (she’s great!) I’d love to see the occasional video with the two of you - sort of an Etsy dinner for the rest of us. 😄 Also, love your creativity with the whole bread analogy and the clear prep that went into this video. Don’t know how you do it all. Thank you!! ❤
What a nice comment! I am too lucky to have such amazing friends to travel with, have dinner with, support me, and do ETSY WITH! And thanks so much for appreciating the creative angle on this one! I had so much fun with it!
Thank you for this! I'm at 193. Started my shop in December (missed Q4!). My design skills were nil at the time and I've learned so much since then thanks in no small part to this channel. Dropping my comment to keep this channel growing and going. Appreciate you so, so much!
Hi there! Congrats on 193!!! May 200 come today! I am so glad you are finding value with me and I am so thankful you are a a part of this community we are building!
I really appreciate videos like this because I've been stagnant and really losing motivation. I'm at 25 sales and haven't had one in a while. I'm diving face first back into my research, setting up sales and adding additional listings of successful designs. Thanks so much for the information and being willing to share!
Yay Shawna...at last we have met Lynaida...and what a sweety. Thank u so much for sharing this with us. Now let me try some of these strategies. Thank u girls. Thank u!!! Xxx
Shawna! Thank you so much You really are the first person to inspire me on this Etsy Journey! This video is so relatable I just started my Etsy shop and it looks like things are being slow but I’m encouraged! Thank you for being a great friend too, and wanting your friends to succeed 😊 A great heart you’ve got! You should consider having a mentorship and support community for Etsy sellers; specifically beginners. You’d do great as a coach, consider me in! I’d be your very number 1 student 😅
@@shawnalynn2083 Girl! Me too!! I am in Cassiy’s new group which is great! But, being able to sit across from someone and just talk one on one is invaluable I would think. Thanks so much for the videos! I look forward to them each week.
Shawna you're amazing! I love this interview as it's realistic and shows effort, tips, and the rollercoaster ride it can be for a new shop! I'm a 5 month old shop on my way to 200 sales! I now consistently get 2 orders a day & trying to grow it to 5+ and then down the road 10+ a day. Having a love/hate relationship with etsy ads right now & trying to reevaluate it. I am almost getting too much traction with clicks and not enough conversion. My conversion isn't bad, but it should be higher for the amount of clicks I'm paying for. Trying to figure out if it's my pricing as I slightly increased them after a good number of sales or if I need to decrease the amount of listings I have on ads for now (I currently have 700 listings with 250 on ads between good sellers and new items as I list about 20 per day. I just like seeing immediate stats on what's working more than others when I list the new items so that's why I have so many on ads. However, I need to figure things out because the daily ads are taking my daily profits so it's still break even for me. Like you always say...continuously looking at what's working and what's not working!
You got it going on Blair!!!! It sounds like you are on such an amazing track!!!! With ads keep a daily look at your search terms and turn ones off that are not specific enough. I have a video with an example if you haven't seen it yet that might help! You will be to 5 daily sales before you know it! I am so proud of you!
@@shawnalynn2083 Thanks Shawna! Always appreciate you! Yesssss, that video is amazing! And yes I think I need to cut down a bit more on the search terms so that they're more specific to my products. I still kept some up that are the vague main topic search term and not niched down enough to what my product specifically is. I was hoping just to get eyes on it, but those eyes aren't converting. I think you're right, I need to get a little more specific with those search terms!
Wow! This is so inspiring and motivating, Shawna! You really have a heart of gold in helping! No wonder why you’re so blessed! 🥰 Ma’am, is the print quality from Monster Digital or SwiftPOD “grainy”? Can we mention brand names like Comfort Colors, Gildan, Gerber, and Bella+Canvas on our listing titles, tags, descriptions, and photos? I researched and inquired about this, but I got different answers. Thank you so much again for your help! I really appreciate you a lot! 🥰 P. S. Tucker is SOOOOO CUTE!!! 😍😍😍
Lynb! I am so glad you enjoyed this one!!! I hope the info helps you heaps! Monster Digital and SwiftPOD both have great prints! So I do use the brand names of the shirts but I don't have a absolute answer for you as I have found some conflicting info on this as well. Comfort Colors was really the only one that caused me to pause but again... I use it and haven't heard any badstories from anyone as of yet about it!
Wonderful conversation ladies! You're both adorable and I love that you are sharing so openly with everyone. I agree with commenter below, this is what it's about. Sharing and supporting one another.
Love this interview! I am right where LeNada was… around 40 inconsistent sales & not wanting to give up. I only have around 260 listings. I work full time & am trying to prioritize getting more researched designs out. This discussion has encouraged me so much! Thx!
Shawna, I’m having a little girl crush. You are so fun to watch. Thank you for your beautiful heart. I just discovered your channel. I’m so glad I did. I opened my first shop on 11-17-23. I’ve been creating new designs every day. Aiming to list 5 each day. I’ve got two questions: the leader thing: I don’t get fully what you were saying on this one. Do you have a video on it? The daily sales: great idea. I am now in a cyber week sale but I was already planning to do continually sales and just set up a monthly sale for after cyber week and then bumped into this video. So I’ll delete that one. When you say daily sales: do you suggest to do a shop wide one with every day a different % or do you suggest to do this a couple of items? What does daily sales look like? Looking forward hearing from you. Have a great day, Miriam ❤
Omg I loved this video soooo much Lyneida needs to be a regular on your channel Shawna, I loved watching both of you interact. The energy is just so playful and fun and genuine and that is something im so lacking in my life right now. I am so happy for her and her success. Please do more of these videos and I would love to be in on the Etsy nights they sound so fun 🎉 as for me it’s been really slow, I’m at 66 sales since end of December 2022 😢 I do daily sales I’ve doubled down on what’s working which is 2 niches super specific but idk if it’s enough. I upped the adds from 1$ to 2$ a day. I don’t know if 3$ would change much. Some weeks I have 4-5 sales, some I have 1. I hear that after 100 you get more sales..? I only have 470 listings maybe that’s why? But then I see shops with 150 listings and 400 sales. I see listings with youth shirts and many shirts in one listing but I struggle with the how to. Is there a way you could make a video on how to do those types of listings? I try to list at least 1 listing a day sometimes I do more but I struggle with the group and listings that have onesies tank tops shirts and sweatshirts in one listing. Anyway lol I absolutely love you both and your energy soooo much I do hope we get to see more Shawna and Lyneida together! ❤
I am so glad you loved this Straingelove! It was so fun to have Lyneida come share! We will have to do some videos centered around Etsy Night for sure! It sounds like you are employing some good strategies! You keep at it over time! I am rooting for you Straingelove!!!
Great story!! I have been following Shawna for a little while. I will follow everything that she says. I am wondering. Do you have a series of videos I should watch first? I am just starting I have 7 sales only. THANK YOU!!! Your friend is very lucky to have you close as a mentor. 💞
It absolutely is the learning and training bc if someone were to try and explain this at first a person would be so lost. U have to learn then as u get to that place be hungry for it. I just listed listings on my cell and let Etsy sit for 7mo and wondered why wasn't I getting sales?? CraZzzy I signed up for a class and it opened my eyes to the real Etsy.😂 However that class was 50 a mo! So I started going to videos and since March 13th everyday 8hrs a day going back and fixing listings and started getting few sales... I'm still in learning mode and will not quit! I take everything u say, take notes and go back and redo😂😂😂😂
Are you kidding me!???? The stats toggle? I’ve been open for six months and NEVER knew this. I’m about to hit 1000 sales and knowing this will be so helpful to really take off like I plan to for 2024. Thank you!
Shawna and Lyneida - Thanks so much for this valuable information. I am going to work on the tips suggested. I think I will go back to items I have sold already and start double downing on them. Do you mostly do the designs on shirts and hoodies or other items too? Do you do multiple colors per listing or many listings of the same design with different colors? How do you track if someone is copycating your product? Thanks again for your great advise and it would be amazing to have a friend like you to meet and stay motivated with. Peace, Jean (Sorry if I ask too many q's!!)
Hi there Jean! Thanks so much for watching and we are so glad you joined us for this one! I will be doing a copycatting video soon! I will spill all the beans I have on that topic! Usually just offer one color and list it twice in an A/B test situation. Did a video up on that if you want more info on it. If it sells I might add it to a tote or a mug or a candle if it makes sense! I hope this helps!
@@shawnalynn2083oh Shawna about candles I refrained from selling those since I keep hearing we need insurance to sell them because someone can sue us if they burn their house or get hurt with the candle. What are your thoughts on that and that would also make a great video!
Setting my daily sales now. Disappointed that it's Oct, i paid for Case6s course in feb or March, i remember the episode when your friend hit 200 sales and I am still at zero - because I stop doing anything. I'm committed to daily actions from oct 1 to dec 31, even if it's getting ready for next year.
Hey there! Daily Action is what will get you there! Did you do the research piece yet that Cassiy leads you through in the first part of her course? If will give you such a great start!
@@shawnalynn2083 yes! And between the 2of you I know I can make this work. With my ADHD - consistency gets me. I'm going to see if anyone in the course needs an accountability buddy. Yeah and Cassie teach the way my brain learns, and I appreciate it.
another awesome video! I've spent this whole year scaling out my bestsellers and popular listings ... that's all I do. Doubling, tripling and fiftupling down on things that work has literally built my shop! Why waste time shooting arrows in the dark trying to land new niches all the time when it is much easier to corner a bigger market of the niches we already get traffic for! (not that we don't need to add new, we do! just saying it's much easier to grow a niche we already get traffic for). Regarding copycats - they are a plague in Etsy. Definitely funny to see one of my bestsellers from last summer now copied all over etsy. BUT scaling out your successful designs also helps combat copycats, because you will be able to extend your successful design to other markets before the copycats do. And I have gotten a shop shut down for copying mine and another seller's designs!
OMG Mel! FIFTUPLING!!!! This just made me laugh so out loud! Anyone catching this comment... reread it a few times because golden advice here! Words to live by!
I really appreciate your comment. It kind of answered what I was wondering. I have a specific like super specific niche that sells for me. Even a older shop with more sales copied one of my designs and I only have about 60 sales and I opened 6 months ago 😢 I was wondering if I should try a new niche since it’s been slow in the one that has been selling but maybe I just need more designs in that niche or scale designs on other items 🤷🏼♀️
@@Straingelove you could apply that design to other niches that you see are popular on Etsy (unless, of course, it’s not something that can be applied to other niches, like a funny saying).
I really enjoyed this video, lots of great info. I been slowing down on making new listings bc I also slowed down on watching videos on Etsy..somehow watching videos like this motivates me and keeps me going. I think it would be great to make a video on printing mistakes made with the print company and doing refunds and doing reprints..what is needed from customers like the reason and photos to show the defects..the more sales I'm getting the more complaints I'm getting from customers 😢
Hi there Blissed Essentials! I am so glad you enjoyed this video and felt motivated after watching it! This is a great video idea! And don't worry! This is normal! And once you break through to the next level you won't even mind doing the refunds because the sales volume will be so good your profits won't even take much of a hit. I am so glad you hear you are getting more sales!
@@shawnalynn2083 thank you for th motivation!! I feel like some refunds is a loss..but sooo glad to hear it wont even affect the profits later :) it's a relief and refreshing to see that. Motivation is key to keep going..there are many times I want to just give up bc it's so easy to do so.
I had a question about the paid ads. If you’re not hitting your daily budget would you just advertise everything or only advertise what’s getting views, likes, and/or sales? I’m doing $3 a day and have 95 listings at the moment. I’m just advertising everything since I’m not hitting my daily budget yet. My shop is 2 months old. Maybe you could make a video on that if you haven’t yet. Thanks!

This was fantastic! I love your friendship. Any suggestions what to do when others copy your design? I created digital print that no one had and it became the bestseller. Soon enough I saw it in another new shop, being the exact copy of mine, with the layout... everything. What is the best way to approach in this case?
I am so sorry that happen to you! It is so very frustrating! I am putting a two part video together on this! But the quick answer is that I ignore it and make more new listings! Keep your eyes peeled for those videos because I do have a ton more to say on the topic and some other things you can do about it!
Hi there! So glad you enjoyed the video! While doing market research you will come across people who have copied. I don't ever waste time actively looking for this. I just happen across it. Hope this helps!
This is a awesome video, Thanks ladies! 😊 I was thinking a good idea for a future video would be what pricing you use. Like what you list shirts, hoodies, mugs ect at. I think it’s hard to find a lose leader price that also does not look to “click bate” by like having size small $10 cheaper than medium and up. Also I’m struggling with mugs and shipping prices, cuz with the $35 and up free shipping it becomes a huge difference and I take a loss. But if I raise the mug price to off set it that makes it look very expensive compared to others.
Hey there Kate! So my loss leader is about a 10 dollar difference and it has been working pretty great for me. I would up going with complete free shipping because of this issue! But I know many people leave it with 35 and up and are successful with it. A loss leader on those will help!
@@jayjayf9699 Desk top version! I think I show it in my first 100 sales video. But on your desktop go to your listings page and then you will see the stats toggle over in the right hand corner. Hope this helps!
Just when I think I'm doinf everything I can, you come along with something else I should be doing - daily sales. I have been doing a sale that runs for a week, bit not daily. I was wondering, isnit normal to set a highrer postage in your shop than what we get charged by POD? I kept mine the same.
Hey there! You just want to makes sure you know your total cost after materials, shipping, and fees so you can charge evough to make some profit over that. I like to make right around 7 dollars profit on shirts. I hope this helps!
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching, and I am so glad you are getting value with me! I am still juggling learning how to grow my RU-vid channel while making sure I continue to grow my Etsy shop. This has my time pretty used to the fullest! But when I get a bit better at this I may add coaching to the mix. I will keep you posted!
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching! No response to them BUT if you notice a certain listing getting favorites make more designs in that niche and use the same block of SEO! Hope this helps!
Hey there! I am so glad you are loving the content! I have a pricing video that might help! But just make sure you have factored in shipping and Etsy fees along with the product cost when pricing your items!
Hi there! I am so glad you enjoyed the video! And we started ads on just all her new listings moving forward and listings that were getting views. It was maybe something like 20 listings and that number grew as she continued to list. Hope this helps!
QUESTION for both of you 💜 When creating listings, do you research, design and post one listing at a time? Or do you bulk create, then go back and post another day?
2000 listings? Wow. I feel like I’m pretty creative but I’m definitely not fast. It takes me several hours to put up the design. It’s not the creative parts, it’s all the steps in the process. I am a retired teacher but have my own wedding business. I don’t consider pod a passive side hustle! But, it appeals to my right side brain.
Hey there! The process gets much quicker as you continue! Sounds like you must be very creative with owning your own wedding business! Definitely not passive in the beginning but later it becomes much more passive. Wishing you so much success with POD! If you aren't in the wedding niche on Etsy I think that one would be a great one for you to add to!
2000 adds up pretty fast, especially if you have a quick template you can use and transpose into other designs. "First Grade Teacher" - K through 5 = 6 shirts. "I'm in the First Grade!" - K through 5 = 6 shirts. "I love the First Grade!" - K through 5 = 6 shirts. "First Grade Rocks!" - K through 5 = 6 shirts. You're already up to 24 with those simple shirts.
Can you clarify the difference between daily and monthly sales? I am not sure what that means. Also, using a loss leader when someone copy cats is a way to capture back those sales?? Good video!
HI there Carla! We are so glad you liked the video! A daily sale is when you run a 24 hour sale in your shop. I run them just about every day. A monthly sale is set the sale to run for the whole month. I hope this helps! Here is a video that might help a little more! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DcbNyvk6Or0.html

Thanks. Question: When Printify or USPS raises their rates, is it automatically reflected onto Etsy (like when an item is sold out), or do we have to go through and change every price?
Hey Miley! So I created a separate shipping profile that is not automatically connected with the POD shop. So mine would differently. If I were charging for shipping I would definitely have to update it myself. If you are using the shipping profile they push out in your shop it might be updated automaticaly but I'm not sure! You might just want to go into your settings to see if everything is what you want it at. Hope this helps girl!
So can we get one quick question cleared up bc I hear 2 versions…when your friend said she put up 5 designs a day and few seconds later 5 listings a day. Which one is it and best to do? 5 totally different designs with same SEO basically or 1-2 designs and multiple SEO to reach different audiences?? Please clarify this for me bc I’m still confused plus I can’t imagine doing 5 completely different designs and 5 SEO’s in one day bc I’m still slow at the entire listing process from start to finish which I mean research for SEO, design, do mock ups, put on printify and Etsy. So, I know there’s no way I could do that with 5 designs. I know in research for SEO we can kinda find several “listing” titles for 1-2 designs, but not do 5 totally different designs, mocks ups-printify and Etsy while working and a single mom. What is your suggestion. I am trying to find a good work flow to do niche research 1-2 days in blocks-designs in blocks then the dreaded listing processes. Ty Shawna!!!! You are awesome with always being helpful and caring what a great teacher at heart you are!!
Hey there! So we both duplicate on the Etsy end which makes listing faster for us but we have to sync after it sells. We usually shoot for five different designs but all that fit under the same block of SEO. I hope this makes sense and helps! You can also maybe do 3 different designs but get 6 listings up by A/B testing either the block of SEO you are using or the mock up photo. Hope this helps!
Hi Shawna, great video! I am a new Etsy owner and I have 8 listing's and I just recently got my first sale which was organic, Yay! I think I probably could do better, but I don't know if I am pricing correctly! I do apparel right now, so what should I be pricing these at?
Yay! Out the gate with a sale and only 8 listings??? That is amazing! So it really depends on the item... I price most of my tshirts between 22.99 and 24.99. I hope this helps!
I have a question... Did L. take down any of her 2000 listings from before her learning curve? I feel like she is telling my story in that I have 450 listings, but almost all of them were created before I learned how to design, how to do research, etc. Now I'm still putting up more designs every day, but I still have hundreds of pretty bad listings still up. What should I do?
Hey there Hannah! She did not take any of them down. And she does randomly sell from some of them... with the momentum of her shop swinging forward this gives them a bit better chance. I also think it might have made her feel like progress wasn't being made if she say so many listing gone out of her shop! But you could always set them to "manually renew" so you have the chnace to make that decision every 4 months when they expire. Hope this helps!
You be hearing more from me lol! Going to purchase your calendar soon just busy because my birthday today and definitely want to be a part of your subscription! Learning so much from your Chanel I love it!
Thanks for the insights! 🙂 Shawna, how does payment work when you sell shirts through a printer like Printful or Printify? Do you then have to pay upfront as a shirt seller or can you pay the printer after you get the money from the customers? If you have to pay upfront, you can quickly run into a financial bottleneck if you don't have a lot of capital. Or am I looking at this the wrong way?
Hey there! So you have to pay for the shirt when it is purchased. I have mine on a credit card so it kind of just hangs out there and when I get paid from Etsy (weekly) I just pay it off. As great as it would be to sell tons of shirts suddenly that probably won't happen. It will be a slow build up which will make that bottleneck problem not much of a problem! Hope this helps!
ah man I'd love to join etsy night!! LOL. Maybe one day you could do a zoom or video etsy night for those newbies like me who doesn't know anyone in my life doing etsy.

Shawna - I don't understand. Lyneida said once she started getting consistent sales in March - she always got at least 2 or 3 sales a day. But how did she go from 36 sales - to 2 or 3 a day in 3 months - how did that add up to almost 600 sales? Was she getting big orders?
Hey there Cindy! She pretty much got AT LEAST 2 or 3 sales a day. Sorry if that wasn't clear! I think she got up to 7! And she did have many orders with multiple shirts in it! She even had someone reach out to get 50 shirts. She had to adjust the design for them and pull it into a different niche... which she listed of course! It only counted as 6 or 7 sales though! When you sale multiple sizes of the same design it only counts as one sales. Hope all that makes sense!
@@shawnalynn2083 Wow that' great she had an order for 50 sales. I know how it is with multiple sales - I had an order for 13 shirts and it counted as one sale I think. She's lucky she has you guiding her through this!
