Others mistook her as a man but I think we also need to point out here that Jinmi also clueless about her gender (she doesn't know about her gender until Phoenix explains it to her). If you're wondering why she's like this, it's because Jinmi's mom gave her a loveless potion to save her from love doom. Jinmi's mom predicted that Jinmi is going to suffer love doom during 10 thousands years into her life. The drama is good and if you're a fan of fantasy drama, this drama is highly recommended.

Also most people in the flower realm are female apparently. Only 1 male was shown. Procreation is apparently from males dropping by and not inhabitants. Not to mention its a peaceful realm and full of immortals. Even her friend didn't seem to know about love or dating. With all that sheltering she is just very young and doesn't know about relation ships much. Also her entire life the realm was protected by a shield so no one could come in.

okay for people who haven't watched this and need context, the main character's hairpin essentially makes her appear as a man to others.also she was given this "curse/blessing" by her mother at birth that made her unable to have or comprehend romantic feelings, this was to protect her from heart break

S Blue No that is not the reason please watch carefully, when Phoenix met jinmi for the first time he actually thought she was a boy. But he grabbed her hand, the love trial started he is her true love so the enchantment doesn’t work ONLY on him. He noticed the magical hairpin and realized her gender was being hidden because of that pin. So for years Phoenix kept the secret she was a girl, Runyu doesn’t know, even moon immortal doesn’t know but he ships them anyways because he is gender neural and he is eccentric. After this episode Phoenix made the fatal mistake of exposing her identity and everyone found out including the Empress that a female from the floral realm is serving Phoenix, all hell breaks lose. For the doubt if Runyu had grabbed her hand first would he have been her true love. No it is confirmed that Phoenix was always the one night immortal never had a chance. She either was going to die or live with Phoenix only.

@@maragathm a small clarification, Runyu knew she was a girl the first time he met her because the hairpin falls off, and he is the one who picks it up for her. 2nd time he saw her was at the Palace Gates when Qiongqi attacked, and she was in her original femal form then.

Sr M No it’s because of her Hairpin. The Hairpin has magic that makes Jin Mi look like a boy in front of everybody. Only extremely powerful beings like Xu Feng can see past the magic. It doesn’t work for Xu Feng. Xu Feng knows Jin Mi is a girl the whole time.

I've seen this drama...she was isolated from rest of the world... so she was never taught any difference between male and female... she is a girl but she wears a magical hairpin which shows her as a boy in front of everyone and she herself doesn't know about it...all these things were done so that she doesn't fall in love...i know it might be confusing but you have to watch whole drama to understand this "ashes of love"
