"The Land of Buddha" or Bai but in Vietnamese, is the sandbank where this statue of Linh Ung pagoda was built in June 2004. It took 6 years and it was inaugurated highlighting the emergence of Buddhism in Vietnam during the 21st century.
The myth of this Linh Ung pagoda entails the time of Nguyen Dynasty during the 19th century when it was ruled by the Minh Mang. The local fishermen noticed a Buddha statue drifted to the area of Son Tra peninsula believing it was a spiritial sign, so the fishermen built a shrine here to worship the Buddha.
Since then, the waves became calmer and made it easer for fisherman to fish.
Linh Ung is now considered the tallest pagoda at 67 meters high in Vietnam.
