Ok but a skit with Chinese people that made themselves to look like the people of culture they wanted to showcase and a Chinese company creating fictional characters of other ethnicity to add to their story are TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS There's no fucking way them not realising the difference between what happened and what they want to do is stopping them from representation

@@emery120 You misunderstand. Please understand. There's nothing culturally stopping GI's writers from having PoC represented in their game. They don't have PoC represented in their game because, 1) some of it is the writer's axiom, "write what you know". 2) And THE major reason is: they don't want to offend western sensibilities. They don't have PoC represented in the game because they ARE sensitive to western culture. Not because they're insensitive. When they changed Jean, Rosaria, Amber and Mona's costumes you all assumed that it was because of CHINESE regulations and censorship. If that were true, why didn’t they also change Ganyu, Beidou, Ningguang, or Keqing’s costumes? Furthermore, why do the Natlan characters we’ve seen so far are less covered up than the changed Mondstat characters? They’re trying to be sensitive to the German and Christian diaspora living in China. If it’s any consolation, most of the English voice cast of Sumeru are people of color. TL;DR The Chinese writers of Genshin Impact don’t have people of color represented in their game because they ARE sensitive to western sensibilities. Not because they are insensitive.

@@cableman4699 im probably still missing the point here but if they *are* sensitive to western culture, such that they don't want to offend western sensibilities; does that mean that they don't want to risk making PoC characters because they're afraid they might offend someone? you did say that they're basically in a lose-lose situation when it comes to adding PoC characters right? "damned if you do. damned if you dont"? because if that's the case, then how does that explain certain things like chinese gaming companies that *do* manage to pull it off? like, Bluepoch's Reverse 1999 or Lilith Studio's Dislyte for example. they go the extra mile and aren't letting the fear of risk holding them back is it because theyre not in the spotlight for people to nitpick or? because then wouldnt that make the issue of being sensitive to western culture to risk trying a hoyoverse thing? or would that make it a chinese culture thing and the examples ive given would be the exception and not the norm? wait maybe i thought this too much but you also did say that it's the "Chinese writers of Genshin Impact" so is it really just them? for the record (this might not be relevant but) im SEA myself, tho im not the biggest pusher of representation of PoC characters. if there's one interesting point that ive noticed in the whole debacle, it's that even some people in chinese forums (from what ive seen so far) agree that this is a case of "setting necessity". so from a writing standpoint, keeping characters on the paler end of the scale isnt a representation issue, but breaking the willing suspension of disbelief. why would genshin's chinese writers risk breaking the suspension of disbelief out of being sensitive to the west

That’s true, but then again looking back at the character roster of sumeru, all of the desert characters do have a tan/dark skin (Cyno, Dehya, Candace, Sethos) while the others who are from the forest area are all pale… personally as a Latin person k would’ve loved to see them with a bit more of a tan, but you can also tell that the 3 natlan characters do have a tan similar to Bennett because when they show the Enemies at the end, the two on the edge are pale af and the natlan characters have a bit more tan in them which honestly is just how it be in real life…im still holding hope but by a thread atp

@@midnashadow8439 yeah, I guess compared to how pale some of the characters are they are indeed tan/brown/dark skinned lol. I'm still holding out hope as well. Natlan is huge, even if the playable characters are similar skin tones, I'm sure they will have diverse npcs like sumeru. Also, Bran is right. They do show alot of representation through the music and I'm am looking forward to that.

You need to complete the golden slumber first (this chain starts in Aaru village) The dirge of bilqis (the Liloupar quest line) starts the next server reset after you've completed the golden slumber quest chain Edit: English genshin wiki is really helpful to navigate throughout the quests

​​​@@Keiki-kuni think its more about hoyoverse racism and colorism while making profit with indigenous brown/black skin cultures, like making enemy or npcs actually brown/dark but playable characters being nothing but white or a little tanned like Cyno or Dehya And idk if Iansan will actually be black or they will whitewash her (not the first time they've done this,Nekomata in ZZZ is super white and its not the lighting in some official arts or in game, Arlan being whitewashed in an emote too) but hoyoverse has a bad track record overall Also, only adding 3/14 characters who were brown in 3. Patches desite being one of the only 2 regions that could have brown people and the first 3 new characters also being white or Nahida being super white because unlike other archons they didnt want her to physically look like the region she was based on
