You also have to speak the language as well as having ancestors there. It is in the top 5 most difficult languages to learn.

Hungarian is a very beautiful language and it's not *closely* related to any other language.

If you living in Hungary after a while you will learn Hungarian you like it or not. Elderly generation still doesn’t speak English. To speak Hungarian it’s only matter of time.

I'm going to talk to someone on Wednesday who is in Budapest about an ESL position there. But what I'm wondering is, do they hire older people, especially women?

Good luck and keep us posted on what you learn! Years ago I taught in South Korea and it was a wonderful experience!

@adventurefreaksss Thanks, I will! I taught ESL in Japan for over 3 years in the early 2000s, and I traveled to South Korea for my work visa. Super spicy food there, for sure! I would return to Japan, if I could, but I'm way too old for them.

@adventurefreaksss 16 дней назад
@@v.2080 Does Japan still have a lot of ESL there? There's a population decline throughout Japan making buying property very affordable there. You may want to go back there, and you can't beat the food in Japan. I love Korean food too and yes, it is very spicy:)

@@adventurefreaksss They wouldn't take me back when I was in my 50s, and that was quite a while ago. The Japanese culture does not usually hire older people and are sometimes sexist in their hiring process.

@@v.2080 They're like S. Korea, they are keen on hiring attractive teachers, which is part of the culture and business model. Places that do not attract as much traffic like Taiwan, Vietnam and Cambodia are great options to teach and I know they hire anyone capable!

I've been an admirer of Budapest for a very long time. (I'm nearly 60 now.) By the numbers, Budapest is a very nice place to live, BUT there is now a HUGE grain of political salt that needs to be considered by anyone going there. When Hungary became a member of the EU, most people took that as a sign that they were embracing the West, liberal democracy, rule of law, and general support of NATO. In the past several years, events have revealed that NONE of this is true anymore. Hungary has gravitated towards beting a White Christian nationalist state that is also a client of Russia and Vladimir Putin. They support Putin in the Ukraine War and have opposed Ukraine in the EU, the UN, and NATO. Viktor Orban has embraced the Trumpist wing of the Republican Party and had traveled to the U.S. to proselytize white Christian nationalism, racism, and anti-immigration. On their current course, they will be marginalized or expelled by the EU for their support of Russia. I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be a wet blanket and my admiration for Budepest endures. But, there is a serious elephant in the room. This geopolitical situation is bad and it is not going away. Russia will continue to project its influence on Hungary and it will inevitably get impacted by the economic pressures. If they are marginalized from the EU, things will be even worse. Putin has been pressuring Orban to get actively involved in the Ukraine War and if that happens, things will get very intense. Above it all, I have been told directly by multiple people who have come from Hungary that it is no place for people of color. Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, etc are all treated with elevated levels of scrutiny. If you're white, it's up to you if you want to live in such a place. This is all a big shame and I hope that things will change. Sadly, I doubt they will.

You are beefing up political propaganda propageted by mainstream media. You could claim just the opposite and it would be equally true (false). Hungary did not change a bit. The world around went crazy.

@@JanosNemeth-y7n I can accept that, sir. However, it just can't be ignored that there is a HUGE geopolitical and social significance for many retirees who consider moving to Hungary. As I've written, I have long admired the country. However, more recent events have shown that it is not going to be welcoming to everyone who may want to come there. Whether you want to admit it or not, there is a very strong white, Christian nationalist sentiment in the country. Viktor Orban has traveled to the U.S. and preached this very message to our most extremist right-wing political groups. Hungary has also aligned itself with Putin's Russia and his disregard for Ukrainian ethnic identity. So, does this make Hungary sound like a promising retirement destination for people of African, Asian, Latino, or Roma ancestry?? You, sir need to appreciate the concept of TRUTH IN ADVERTISING. There are other popular tourist and retiree websites that clearly mention the racial, social, and political issues in Hungary. If this is the truth, as we say in the U.S. "Wear it"! Don't just white wash the uglier parts of your society.

@@freebozkurt9277 So, exactly what part of this is false? Please elaborate. If I have made statements that can't be backed up by facts, I will gladly retract and apologize. Let's start with Viktor Orban's well publicized opposition to "mixed race society" and his anti immigration stance. Come on. If this is all false, I'm sure you can defend this point.

I just posted about this. As I write above, its a real shame. Budapest is an ancient and beautiful city. The problem is that they are descending into a culture of nationalism, nativism, racism, anti-liberalism, anti-democracy, and client state status to Moscow.
