When you're doing an interview, don't talk about yourself, you need to put the other on a podium to speak. That's how you learn from others experience. Only use yourself as an example to clarify a question, don't answer the questions yourself! Stop "relating" with things and talking about your own things. "She Lives in a Van & Invests in Real Estate" Want to know her experience, her current business and goals going forward. But this video was an entire slug, need to carefully look for the information. Test this: Jump to random segments and find out who is speaking. 8/10 it's you.

"Stop "relating" with things and talking about your own things." This is possible the most important advice everyone should be aware of when interacting with other people. This is a classic conversation mistake that will kill rapport if you keep doing it and this is especially poor use when you are interviewing someone.

True story, I’ve found myself over “relating”.. it feels like you’re connecting but in reality we are making it more about ourselves.. and it’s hard to see it without a video of the conversations lol. Usually we are trying to make sure we maximize on our time and that seems like that’s what he was trying to do, just needed a little nudge of correction which no one was there to do it for him.. he’ll get it though I’m sure.

A small tip: 1. More eye contact. 2. Treat the person you're interviewing as if they're the most important person in the world, all your attention should be on them. Don't speak about you, ask more questions about them. (How to win and influence people -Dale Carnegie) Hope you were not offended.

@@Sinekyre14 Business is strictly business. You have to manipulate, seduce, influence etc. No one cares about you being the best version of yourself. They care about how you view them. If he could make every person he interviews feel special, what effect do you think it will have on his business as a whole?

Great advice but personally I saw this more as a conversation between two rather than an interview; in which case a fluctuation of "the spotlight" is likely the most efficient way to further a friendship/relationship.

@@GianniGT He's violating some basic conversation guidelines. Biggest is he's responding to her comments with his own experiences too often when he should be addressing more in depth what she just said. The start of the video she talks about her bio/mom passing away and his response was "so you just lost all passion for it, yeah i can relate" and he goes off on his relatable story. He should have just said "so you just lost all passion for it" and let her respond. It's a bad habit to make a statement on what someone just said and not allow them to expand on it especially on something that has a lot of weight like the DNA of her life story. I first became aware of this on a technical level from a TED talk a few years ago. You should try and get out of the habit of responding to people with your own experiences when they tell you something. For example if someone walks into the office and tells you she just saw a big car accident. You should not used that as an opportunity to tell her about the time you saw a big car accident right away but thats a common trait on how people reply.

This was a good video. I wish we had more time with the interviewee. It seems as though you spent a lot of time talking about yourself. Although we know and love your story, I think having a guest on an episode should highlight more of the guest.
