He might have though his luck was in, snogging your way through the test, then blaming Elon for the car not beeping was absolutely hilarious 😂 Congratulations Ianthe! You have smashed it! Massive congratulations
Well done Ianthe! Good advice from Tom as well. It doesn’t matter how many mistakes you make, just make them safely. We’d all sooner have observant new drivers who are clearly concentrating on the roads rather than on their phones. You’re doing great! No one knows how to truly drive at the beginning of their driving-life and in reality we’re all still learning no matter how many miles / years we’ve had behind the wheel. Learn (safely) every day, enjoy the road and congratulations! 🎉
EV’s and most JLR products are very hard to ensure these days. My wife’s 2020 Evoque was £479 last year and it’s £1,680 this year with the same company. They also told her that they are reviewing their policy towards ensuring any JLR products from next month onwards
Congrats Ianthe, it will take you a good few weeks, the worst for me was the first few journeys on my own…… in a few weeks you’ll just do it without thinking…. Happy driving…
You were a passenger menace diving to beep that learner driver 😂 Congratulations on passing your test Ianthe, chunky defender 90 for your first car is awesome, no one's getting in the way of one of those either😂
Congratulations Ianthe 🎉 We've all been anxious driving the first times alone. It gets dangerous once you feel it fade actually, good to be very aware of that. For me it started to fade after about 10 drives. Enjoy! When you're done with the green sticker, plug it onto one of Tom's Porsche, he can use extra consideration when he's slowing down before speed bumps and fishes for gears.
My dad always used to say he wasn't necessarily worried about me driving, it was how everyone else would drive around me..... I was anxious for a good 3-6 months til I could do hillstarts and reverse uphil vibes and pulling quickly out of junctions without drama (manual). Hopefully the automatic will help you settle into car life sooner. Ironically I found A and B roads more relaxing to drive than inner city vibes. Good luck!
Well done! I my legs were shaking when trying to parallel park during my exam, almost 20 years on I still hate doing it. I wasn't nervous about driving on normal roads but it took me a month before I dared to drive on the motorway, merging into fast moving traffic was nerve-racking. This might sound weird but when I wrote off my first car about 3 months after passing (on a road-a-bout), I became a more confident driver.
Woohoo, congratz Ianthe! Best thing to do is just go driving and build up confidence. And even though it might feel nice to have someone with you, also go solo so it's just you and the driving instead of also adding a conversation or 'tips' to it. I had no trouble passing the test yet it took me a few 1000 km's to loose the 'newbie on the road' feeling. At that time it did not help that I didn't have my own car so the options to go for a drive were limited. You got an advantage there. Defender sounds like a nice option, better sidewalls on the tires and a good overview sitting a bit higher will be helpful. You'll be fine, we probably see you road raging against all those clowns on the road in no time lol.
I don't remember if I was anxious or not after I passed my test, but I do remember feeling like "that's it??" but that was mainly due to the poor US system for driving tests. My test was literally 1 mile up a 2 lane road and the same route back. It took all of 4 minutes
Confidence grows every time you step in the car. You’ll have bad days but, each month you’ll notice big improvements. 3 - 6 months and you’ll be great. 😉✊
Congrats on passing Ianthe! No matter what anyone says, it is daunting being let loose on the roads and sure it won’t be long until you feel fully confident and enjoy the freedom! 👍🏻
Congratulations ianthe (applogies if thats spelt wrong) as a wiseman once said niw the real lessons begin .... and just you two together is just great you bounce of eachother so well
Congratulations 🎉I’m still trying to get my daughter to do her first driving lesson ! I guess she takes afire me ! I didn’t start driving until I was 23 ! First car was a mk2 XR2 !
Passing the driving test is one of the most important and probably most difficult things to do! I dont know anyone that wasnt nervous the first time on their own! Amazing feeling though when you do go out on your own!
Congrats to Ianthe, I remember when I passed my driving test and started driving on my own for the first time it felt like a massive responsibility and my eyes were on stalks for at least a month if I remember correctly! Then over time I got cocky and overconfident and drove way too fast for many years.Luckily I survived and now drive very responsibly and while I have a normal sedate car and a very fast one I am a lot less of a menace on the roads! Probably not a good idea, but it would have been funny to have Archie in the back in this vid :D
Congratulations Ianthe. Love the videos with you both in. Just keep driving and getting used to it. Driving is all about dealing with the other muppets on the road. Go at your pace and as Tom said, doesn’t matter about the mistakes. Enjoy it, just not in a Tesla 😂
Congratulations, Ianthe!!! 🎉 thst's a huge milestone and the fact you passed first time is amazing! I was full of anxiety in my first year or so of driving. I often went down the wrong roads after being confused with the sat nav. And I was always hyper-focused with lane discipline to the point I couldn't even adjust the radio. I think a good point of practice is to get used to dual carriageways and motorways. And try to do as many as you can - in a step-by-step process. Dealing with busier roads but to and from a set destination was a really good confidence grower for me. Within several months, I could get into the driving seat like it was second nature. And try some different cars if you can - that taught me a lot about spacial awareness, when/where to brake smoothly etc. Really fun video, Tom - thanks for uploading the good news, and looking forward to the adventures 😊
Congrats Ianthe!! only time and solo driving will improve your confidence, and passing first time should also be a boost for you, it won't be long before you complain about that terrible driver in front of you LOL! and there are plenty out there 😁
Congrats Ianthe....don't let Tom push you into some totally unsuitable car at this stage....get some miles under your belt first without the stress of worrying about damaging something expensive! I did smile Tom....Ianthe's eyes are out on stalks when driving....I don't think she blinked once for quite a while. She will relax when she has more experience. Now she can chauffeur you back from the Pub! 😉
Well Done Ianthe, Tesla’s definitely going to be a different drive to what you’re used to. Trust the 90 will be a bit more normal. Both massive mind you 👌
Well if she didn't start having panic attacks or broken up with you with your Tesla fire stories, she never will. 🤣 Big congrats Ianthe, what an achievement! Make sure you drive that Defender 90 like you stole it!
I took my drivers license in the late 80íes, and borrowed my parents BMW 320i with a manual stick. I wouldn´t have any radio/music when driving since I had to hear the engine in order to know when to change gears -also I avoided to busy intersections with lots of traffic😂
You are a brave man. She is driving a car that can literally drive itself, obviously the computing capacity of the car is on another level compared to a female who has just passed her test although always will be I expect. Like n sub.
Congratulations lanthe i’m very curious to ask I remember a few videos ago you said you struggled with a lazy eye. I’m curious to know how did you manage to get that sorted? Hope you don’t mind me asking Also always good to see you both on a video always very entertaining to watch

My first drive after passing was shocking. Just felt like the car was totally fucked up. Took me a few weeks to use the motorway too. O thing wrong with a little anxiety though. Only have to watch a bit of RU-vid to realise how quickly everything g can go to shit.
