Dawn Nickel, PhD: The SHE RECOVERS story began in 2011 when I, Dawn Nickel, and my daughter, Taryn Strong-both women in long-term recovery-felt called to recover out loud and normalize what it means to be a woman in recovery from #addiction.
Taryn Strong: Today, SHE RECOVERS® Foundation is a non-profit charity and grassroots movement dedicated to redefining recovery, inspiring hope, ending stigma, and empowering women recovering from mental health issues, trauma, and substance use, to increase their recovery capital, heal themselves, and help other women to do the same.
In 2022, SHE RECOVERS connected, supported and empowered thousands of women through global platforms, resources, twice-daily online gatherings, therapeutic movement, identity-based support groups, professional certifications, volunteer training, recovery education, and local sharing circles.
Jennifer: As a divorced mom I was afraid and I was alone and I didn’t know if I could hold on to sobriety until I found SHE RECOVERS…and all the amazing women, recovering from everything not just alcohol, and I realized I wasn’t alone.”
Shari: I was fortunate enough to help create our group that supports Black, Indigenous & women of color and what we hear a lot of women talk about is…this is something they have never had before. They’ve never had a group where they felt safe enough to share or discuss their individual experiences and those experiences that relate to racism.
We are all recovering from something and you don’t have to recover alone.
