She was an 8th grade CHILD forced to jump from 12 feet up onto a broken leg over and over and over and over again for 8+hrs/day and she was beaten by her father when she disobeyed. She is a tiger, but she is also an abuse victim. USAG has been outed for their horrific treatment of athletes.

What about when she fell at the 06 trials SO hard on her head on balance beam after second layout. You could see the fear on her eyes. She confused like a tiger but it was sickening how no one even went to her to see if she was okay AND had her perform right after on 4th. If you haven’t seen it look it up , I can’t believe she didn’t crack her head open

I’ve seen gymnasts split the beam so many times, but nothing has ever compared to the pit in my stomach feeling I had when she crashed onto her head and managed to keep it together and nail the rest of her routine. Considering the immense bullshit she went through in her career, she kept it all together remarkably well.

@@Hey-tb3fv you can do the research online or better yet on YT when she speaks. She had family issues and legally “divorced” her parents. I believe it was her father that financially screwed her, until she became wise at what was happening. She’s become her own woman now, and emerged beautifully. It was a sad personal story. And THEN there’s the side with her training as a child. 🤦🏻‍♀️ you’ll find it.

@@arboreea1312 I have no words.💔 Even though I know parents and trainers in many countries treates their golden children inhumanely, it breaks my heart every time I hear about it. It should be punished extremely hard - and giod trainers/parents be praised; lifted as good examples. These girls/little women are the pride, honour and gems of their country!💗💎🌹

She also has a sister that her parents put up for adoption because she was born with no legs..she is an acrobat and looked up to Dominique before she found out they were later. I think her name is Jennifer bricker ❤️❤️❤️ check out the story here on RU-vid

Just incredible. She had to emancipate from her parents as they basically were stealing from her. I never forgot that. One of the best gymnasts ever!

I love watching her so for is perfection when she nails it. Her somersault landings, for example, are so beautiful with her legs & knees cleanly together unlike most gymnasts. But always in my mind is what she said about Bela Karolyi forcing her to train and compete while she was injured. The Karolyis were responsible for lifting the US teams but also destroying them.

That they havent been charged with abuse and neglect blows my mind. I live in hope. And that former CEO - he needs to be charged also for ignoring the sexual abuse claims and refusing to report it to the police!!!

Dominique could have been a multi year Olympian Gold medalist if she'd just had an ounce of support outside the gym from coaches, family and the USOC(Specifically Bella and Marta Karolyi).

It is sad that she has had such a short career, if a great coach had taken over after 1996, maybe she would have continued to amaze us for some more years, she had a unique style, great gymnastics and outstanding personality.

It is sad her career was so short. She actually had a great coach during her run up to 2000 but her knee injury ended her plus Bela and Marta were still pissed and blackballed her. She didn’t stand a chance really. I admire her strength and courage and perseverance because she kept going because she loved it too. Most would have walked away in defeat but she fought to get back. I can’t remember her last coach except she was Romanian and Domi said she liked training with her but someone started threatening her I think and she may have gone back to Romania. I don’t know the full story. Only what the media likes to exaggerate.

Ah, I remember her. Each Olympic year US media picked one of the gymnasts and built them up as the star that would beat the Russians back then and 96 was her.

And yet in both 1992 and 1996, it was Shannon Miller who emerged as the most decorated American Olympic gymnast. Nothing against Dominique, though - I still love her!

@@Margo-oj5yc Yep, the media usually picked wrong. They annointed Shawn but Nastia won the all around. I don't remember who it was the next time but it wasn't eventual winner Gabby Douglas.

Nadia Comminech, Olga Corbett, Kim Nelly (think that was her surname) those were the days. They still have something over the today’s gymnasts. Why aren’t some of these moves done today. Routine still appears harder than today’s routine! Simply perfection.
