The most unique voices I've heard in the last 25 years is Jewel, Grace VanderWaal and Gwen Stefani.

She employs yodel as well as anybody on the planet, when she wants to. Great performer, songwriter, and survivor. My understanding is that her parents were the type of Alaskan folks that Discovery Channel makes shows about, and she left and lived in her car until she was "Discovered", playing in coffee shops and wine bars.

Jewel was so dope when this album came out. She still is amazing. The 90’s where the best decade for music in my opinion. I graduated high school in 1995 and all genres of music where so good. From Alternative to Hip Hop to Metal. Nirvana,STP,Alice in Chains,Soundgarden,Metallica,Megadeth,Slayer,Sepultura,2Pac,Biggie,Snoop,Icecube,DR. DRE,NWA, Eazy,Ghetto Boys,Nas,Jay-Z,Eminem and the list goes on and on. Such a great decade.

Sean Penn produced and directed this Jewel video. He and Neil Young helped get Jewel on the road to being heard on the radio and fame. Young let Jewel use his music studio to record her first album "Pieces of You".. Jewel's song "Foolish Games" and the video are my very favorite of hers. I have all of her albums. Her voice range is incredible from high to low and boy can she hold those notes for so long!

I've read that she yodels and learned that young so maybe that helped give her voice that tone. It seems to me that it gave her the freedom and lack of fear to play around with her voice and different sounds. I'm guessing it helped her develop a different sound bc she didn't fear not conforming. The songs of hers that I know and are beautiful are Foolish Games, I Wonder As I Wander, and Hands. I think you both would really love them even if you choose not to react to them. Of course, I'm sure you get all music'd out sometimes though, especially listening to songs here and there and not really getting to know very many of them deeply. Sometimes repeated listening really lets the depth of some songs seep in.

Ive got all her Cd's and dvd's! Her story... her journey from Alaska in the mountains with no bathroom n electricity to playing coffee shops in California and. Packing them to where the top record executives came down to see her... then a contract war between the recorded companies to get her is just incredible. Shes got some great great music! The one sound in Jewel's voice reminds me of the sound made by a trumpet.. I think it's called a "Trumpet Mute" It has that wa-wa or wah-wah sound. I don't know how else to describe it. I just love it.

It's commenting on people in general who live a non-authentic life, and the people who are hurt by that. In the long run, the views of society and the actions of society do not support the people of the society. The first line is "People on tv living their lives for you say they're better than you, and you agree." The bathroom is symbolic of the whole world of humans, and in the end, everybody poops. Whenever someone tries to make you feel small just remember, we all poop. Be your best you, whatever that is. And let other people be their best. Encourage it, always.
