I'm 73 and followed Linda since 1967 she was the best I ever heard. 2 years ago I came across a singer 20 years old now Lucy Thomas like Linda amazing voice, technique and range from very low to contralto, they don't sound like each other and Lucy currently at least favours a different style but the sheer talent they have is about equal. reassuring to know talent is still out there.

@@richardmoore2124 Karen Carpenter was absolutely phenomenal, but the things Linda Ronstadt could and did do in so many different genre’s is untouchable by any other. Now to say she’s your favorite? We all have favorites, and I love so many great artists male and female, and some I love more than Linda on a personal level, but Linda’s voice is flawless on every single road she traveled. From Country to Rock to Pop to Classical, to Opera, to Folk to Mexican. There was so many levels where she was flawless! I’m 57 and have been around the music industry for over half my life. I promise I know a couple of things. Again Karen Carpenter was also flawless, but unfortunately she didn’t live long enough to accomplish all the things Linda did. 😊

A great example of just that is her performance of "The Man That Got Away" in the 1954 version of "A Star is Born" As far as the next place to go with Linda, since you mentioned opera she appeared on Broadway in the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta "The Pirates of Penzance" as Mabel followed by the film version and her spotlight number "Poor Wandering One" really shows off her upper range.

Loved your appreciation for Linda's soft ballad stuff. She truly was a master of her instrument. She also had an appreciation for more musical territory and flavor than any other performer I have known, besides perhaps Elvis. Let me go out on a limb here...I've read, yet again, the comments from folks here just as I have on other reaction hosts' videos of Linda, and, yet AGAIN, NOBODY is commenting on Linda's work with Nelson Riddle. It must be because the majority of folks who have listened and followed do not like Big Band music/American Pop Standards. And that is a complete shame. You two are here expanding your musical horizons and setting an example for others to follow - and yet, and yet....people are still failing to acknowledge Linda's work with one the greatest orchestra leaders the business has ever known. It's downright CRIMINAL. She did three albums with Riddle and the very first one (titled: What's New) was on the Billboard album charts for 83 weeks!! 83!!! WEEKS -- that's a year and 7 months, people!! And yet, for some reason unbeknownst to me, and totally illogical given the purpose of these videos everyone's watching nobody is saying anything about some of the greatest music and stories ever written! Do, please, go and check out any of the following: 'Skylark'; 'When You Wish Upon A Star'; 'Someone To Watch Over Me'; 'What's New'; 'I've Got A Crush On You'; 'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered'. Linda was the best female vocalist of all genres. Streisand was great as well, but not as flexible as Linda. Linda ventured out into many different vibes. No lady that I know of has ever hitched her star to as many sailing boats of song as has Linda. Heck, not many male vocalists have bravely charted waters as broadly as miss Ronstadt. Elvis Presley maybe, but few others. Maybe, just maybe it's because those asshats at Rolling Stone mag never gave her a rating above 3 stars for those albums. And who the F*** gives a sh** about what Rolling Stone has to say? They list the following on their top 100 guitarists of ALL TIME: David Gilmour at 82 Eddie Van Halen at 70 Dicky Betts at 58 CARLOS SANTANA at 15 Jimmy Page at 9 SRV at 7 Clapton at 4 H.S. -- Chuck Berry at 6????!!!! Ry Cooder at 8??? Cobain at 12?? Johnny Ramone at 16?? John fogerty at 40? And yet, Eddie and David and Dicky can't break the top 50???!!!!! Rolling Stone is for morons!!!

Linda's 2nd big hit song, when she was very young. (Different Drum was her first big hit, when she was very very young) The crazy thing about Linda is as iconic she was singing love songs, she never married or found a lifelong love. She dated California Governor Jerry Brown (who also ran for President) for a long time in the 70s, and she dated a lot of musicians. But, for whatever reason, not a lifelong relationship. That makes songs such as Long Long Time about a love she wanted but did not get, feel all the more emotional and heartbreaking. Even her biggest rock hit, "You're No Good", is about a relationship that didn't work. Ironically, probably the 2 most beautiful heartfelt female voices of the 70s and early 80s were Linda and Karen Carpenter imo, and Karen also had a frustrating and disappointing love life and you can hear that tangible heartbreak in her songs and voice. There is a pretty good video of Linda singing this song live, I'll try to find the link. A very young Linda.

Ugh…. I appreciate how well you guys go into the technical breakdown of the vocal dynamics and the instrumentation of the songs you react to, and even the passing comments on the emotive nature of the song and its lyrics, BUT FO GOD’S SAKE, can you PLEASE take a minute or two to focus on the MEANING AND MESSAGE of the song? This is one of the most despair driven, heartbreaking, soul shattering ballads about the grief of unrequited love ever written and performed. Linda delivers it with all the passion and pain in her heart as if she’s lived this story, as some of us have. Yes, she sings it with a God given vocal range and the power only Linda can summon, but it’s as much about the story she’s telling and the pain she’s conveying with her incredible talent than the dissection of the song’s technical aspects. We request these song reactions for more than having you agree with us that the artists we recommend are great. We often ask you to react to songs which live in our hearts and resonate with our souls…..and that’s all about the meaning and message. When they are then delivered by someone like Linda Ronstadt, MAGIC. I wish you nothing but continued success with the channel, but I hope you’ll take this recommendation to heart as well. Cheers!

Linda Ronstadt, Patsy Cline, Edith Piaf… in no particular order, the three best female vocalists of all time. The story on this song goes as told by Linda, a friend/maybe producer told her of a song he heard that might be good for her. It happened the songs writer, performer Gary White was playing a set at a club in LA, they went to see him. After the show backstage, Linda said she wanted it. The next day they recorded it. The fact that it is a slide guitar in it is incredible. And how seamlessly Linda can with one breath, go from octave to octave . The amazing thing about her, and this song specifically is the fact the many live versions you can watch on RU-vid, Linda absolutely nails every single one of the performances I’ve seen.

Beautiful song. Beautiful artist. I’ve been listening to this song since it was released in my teens. But actually it’s a beautifully written song about the age old problem of falling in love with someone whose only real interest was a pump and dump. She made herself an alpha-widow, so to speak.

Had a crush on her from the start with Stone Ponies: Different Drum..beside being so alluring that song ringed true the hard lesson for a lot of sweet guys that went for a girl that was ahead of them and had to move on ......

Thank you for listening to her. She has Alzheimer's and can't sing anymore. She deserves all of the love you can give her. Thank you.

Not Alzheimer’s! Diagnosed initially with Parkinson’s but later determined to be another neurological disease that escapes my mind right now.

The difference between the fiddle and violin is how it is played. Same instruments, different styles.

The original diagnosis was Parkinson's Disease, but later changed to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. The 2 diseases react in similar ways.

You absolutely have to react to Linda's version of "Desperado" - either the live or the studio version....
