Shaun Of The Dead (2004) SYNOPSIS: Shaun (Simon Pegg) is a 30-something loser with a dull, easy existence. When he's not working at the electronics store, he lives with his slovenly best friend, Ed (Nick Frost), in a small flat on the outskirts of London. The only unpredictable element in his life is his girlfriend, Liz (Kate Ashfield), who wishes desperately for Shaun to grow up and be a man. When the town is inexplicably overrun with zombies, Shaun must rise to the occasion and protect both Liz and his mother (Penelope Wilton).

Originally in the script, he said "she's so pissed" but was shot later where he said "she's so drunk" to avoid confusion. Especially for the US. Another interesting fact: the name of the grocery store the zombie Mary works at is called "Landis grocery store" as a reference to John Landis who directed an american werewolf in London.

Yes; most people try to relate a novel event of circumstance to something they've experienced before -- even to a fault. For ex., Shaun has seen a lot of drunk chicks, but no zombies (yet), so he concludes that one is the other, matching the evidence of his eyes to a "model" that's familiar to him. This process caused him to keep his guard down until it was almost too late. Too many zombie-movie characters act from the get-go like gamers who have a lot of foreknowledge and know they are in a game (movie). They start by acting TACTICALLY instead of being driven by puzzlement or curiosity, which is how most people would really start out.

I think the best example why Cornetto movies work so mutch that they put classic movie concepts in to the British reality. Also Edgar Wright influenced American movies and comedy so it is kind of a mix of the two.

You know they actually had it good. They have a house with a private yard full of foliage... sure maybe the house is older but it's still their own home. The interior looked very comfy. 3 flat mates. (Perhaps it was the banker's home but they used the shed for storage (ie records), so likely their home and the banker was living with THEM). Either way, they're not in a squishy apartment. They had some space which is a premium p privilege in England, as is Japan, Hong Kong and other densely populated areas. .... What was the step dad's problem!?!?!
