Janet Mello has been found guilty of stealing well over $100m in a seven year plot to defraud the government of funds she stated were going to benefit military spouses and their children.
This entire story is so outlandish and wild. I was consistently shocked at the details. How could this have been allowed for so long?

Don't lock her up. Force her to do community service. Cooking, cleaning, picking up rubbish for 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week, for the rest of her life.

You know I imagine a lot of those families need help around the house and childcare maybe that's what she should be forced to do everyday babysit for a new family family. And she should be forced to sell everything and everything she bought or donate it to the local military community center so the families can use it. Now what do we do about all those politicians on both sides who are also greasing their families bank accounts because they have information power and knowledge the rest of us don't?

I mean, if you, as an officer, had 18 years of service and faced administrative discharge for misconduct, you'd be retire in lieu of discharge. Even when facing UCMJ action, officers can resign in lieu of action. There is privilege Even among the green suits. And it's not uncommon for people not to go to jail for fraud while their case processes. So her not having to post bail is the government judging that she won't commit more fraud.

@hks2377
@hks2377 6 месяцев назад
A dishonorable discharge alone doesn’t remove retirement benefits. It takes a federal felony, from what I’ve seen, at least in practice. VA qualified care or Tricare retirement benefits are never revoked, except for VA disability checks being diverted to immediate while someone is serving time. This B doesn’t deserve to keep any federal employee benefits, but I’m not sure what will happen.

Back in late 90s when i enlisted the unit i was in had government credit cards. We kept them, paid bills on them and submitted paperwork for reimbursement. Generally we used them while tdy and moving prisoners. My first sgt had several similar cards to the government issued card. He bought a 3 dollar birthday card for his wife by accident, just used the wrong credit card. He was removed as first sgt. All of our government credit cards were taken from us then placed in the unit safe and only got issued rarely. From that point about 2/3 of the times i needed that card it was not available so i was out of pocket until i got reimbursed. They caught a 3 dollar discrepancy in just a few days in 90s. How did they miss millions?

Service contracts are notorious for their lack of oversight, especially if they are directly managed by the component service. Product contracts have an output that can be measured, if that makes sense. A certain number of widgets must be manufactured on time, to a spec, at a quality level and be within the quantity outlined in the contract. It gets even harder to BS when there's a government inspection requirement at source (location of manufacturing) prior to the release of payment. Service contracts have no tangible output to perform surveillance and inspection on.

I am so morally outraged by this! Where did this insanity come from? And there is essentially no punishment for a $100 million theft? And she deserves her retirement benefits? The charges were nothing! There are not words profane enough to heap on this outrage. What of the loss to the military children & family? Who compensates them for this loss? Is this hitting the national press? Who was her partner and is still shielding her? Has she threatened to name names? I feel like vomiting!!!

They should only have let her keep her TSP. She should not receive her FERS pension, not any other benefits (there really aren't that many past life insurance and healthcare anyway). OTOH (I'm not a lawyer) it seems to me that TSP is an asset that they might be able to grab, AND the FERS payments as well. Maybe this is why? Bottom line, I hope she serves multiple years in prison. What happened to the folks above her that should have been catching this? Not talking just the immediate supervisor, but at least two tiers up from that. Just leaving this here. I'm pretty POed about this and could go off on a massive tangent.

The reason she isn't getting any jail time is because she has the knowledge of where the $$$ is. If they just chuck her in prison the money may never be recovered.
