I’ve seen this song performed hundreds of times over the years on RU-vid. From 3:36 I was almost moved to tears with how he sang this. Incredible performance & rendition of this song.
Omg wow. Just wow. Even more potent that I feel in love with Sarah Bareilles’s first album the year my first daughter was born and I was 23. And that daughter introduced me to the musically that is Ben Platt. Nobody expels such emotion in their vocals as that man. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
What a beautiful voice!! I love the song. I've listened to Sara & then Katherine McPhee, then wanted to hear a males take on it & Ben did not disappoint!!
glad my nails are also gold as i'm watching this (thanx, algie) but less glad that i'm as hairy or more coz it's hot in the tropics anyhoo, always gorgeous singing!
tbh theres not many covers of this song i actually enjoy bc the original is just puuurfect.... however I WILL SAY that this version kept my attention the whole time bravisamooo
he may be a nepo kid but the man can deliver. so fng talented. there can be no doubt he has trained hard. learned from his peers and works so damn hard. i salute ben.
@@puppyoverload5145 Nepotism. He has a parent in the biz and it gave him a leg up, but I usually am fine with it if the person is talented or makes use of the tools they were given to become more talented. The issue is when talented people get overlooked in favor of nepo kids. But some of the biggest talents in the world came from nepotism.
@@NoFirstNoLastName you have no idea how happy I am to finally see someone who is objective about this😭 I’m so sick of people pretending they’re “fighting for social justice” when they’re actually just trolls
There seems to be a lot of love for Platt's rendition but for me it's not a patch on Shoshana Bean version on broadwaycom. She acts out the song brilliantly.
It's not simple to say Most days I don't recognize me These shoes and this apron That place and its patrons Have taken more than I gave 'em It's not easy to know I'm not anything like I used to be Although it's true I was never attention sweet center I still remember that girl She's imperfect but she tries She is good but she lies She is hard on herself She is broken and won't ask for help She is messy but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up And baked in a beautiful pie She is gone but she used to be mine It's not what I asked for Sometimes life just slips in through a back door And carves out a person And makes you believe it's all true And now I've got you And you're not what I asked for If I'm honest I know I would give it all back For a chance to start over And rewrite an ending or two For the girl that I knew Who be reckless just enough Who can hurt but Who learns how to toughen up when she's bruised And gets used by a man who can't love And then she'll get stuck and be scared Of the life that's inside her Growing stronger each day 'Til it finally reminds her To fight just a little To bring back the fire in her eyes That's been gone but it used to be mine Used to be mine She is messy but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie She is gone but she used to be mine
Yeah, one of the best vocal talents in decades and some doofus types just can't help but their off key warble to that amazing voice. Of course, keep in mind there have been performances of musical theater that have had to be stopped so that an announcement could be made telling members of the audience that's not appropriate to sing along.
@@MichaelHammond oh I think I saw that already ty for sharing though and I know they sang.carpool karaoeke..but I thought She and Ben Co wrote a song together not just performed together when he said they collaborated..and I believe Ben wrote this song by himself or without her...
I love love love Ben's voice, however...he could chill on the vibrato. BUT he did this perfectly, I've seen a lot of covers since I love this song and most people don't do it right. He did it exactly right.
It takes some serious "Cojones" to try a part made for a woman and Make it Work........yet, again, example.......Ben.......one has to 'give into' a Role, an interpretation .......and GIVE IN........Job Well Done.....;)......
Never ever sing along unless the performer asks you to. It's insulting to pay to hear a fantastic musician only to hear the off key teeny boppers beside you.
I just don't think he's THAT good. There are much more talented people who don't get the break he had just because their dads aren't big time hollywood and broadway producers like his dad is. His voice is honestly just meh. If you had no clue who Ben Platt was and heard it for the first time, you might not care for it.
Are you KIDDING? I know opinions differ but he has one of those voices that you have to be deaf to not understand how incredible it is. How many times have you hear him sing?????
@@luna-mo3ol Many times. You don't need to watch him to hear that he carries vocal tension in the neck. His dad is the producer of Wicked, other Broadway shows and plenty of Hollywood. His job was to condition you into thinking he's one of the best. He has succeeded with you.
@@cloudambient Dude, his dad has absolutely nothing to do with this. Stop. I didn't even know about his dad when I found out about Ben and his voice. He's clearly got an incredible voice and if his dad wasn't famous then you would probably think so too. You're only using his dad as an excuse to hate on him. Get a life.
I was in the Seattle concert. Watching him live was a blessing and one of the best experiences in my life.
