Any therapist who thinks an open relationship or marriage is good idea should have their license revoked & never be allowed to practice again. Robert's a damn fool he's setting himself up for heartbreak again.

Why would someone who failed the first time succeed on a second chance? It’s like choosing a path you thought would take you home, but it led you somewhere completely different. Thinking that taking the same path again will get you home is just like this 'second chance' idea. Onece cheater allways cheter.

Why would anyone marry someone who needs to be seeing a therapist?

I like how in your stories both parties are telling their side of the story.

I am very familiar with the actual life story you created this from. Firstly there was never a "Jen" perspective. It was a reddit story by "Robert" with several updates over the span of months. Secondly you removed the intervention "Robert" 's sister, "Jen" 's sister and "Jen" 's mother had to keep "Robert" from cancelling the wedding. At this intervention "Jen" gave "Robert" the journal she had been keeping. Third when "Jen" lost the baby she had a complete mental breakdown, which was why she got a therapist and it was the fear of losing "Robert" that opened her to being manipulated. Fourth you failed to mention it was the therapist who was pushing for the open marriage. It is only after "Robert" replayed the recording at the intervention that got all the ladies to understand why "Robert" was cancelling the wedding and got them to preassure "Jen" into seeing a different therapist. In tje recording they note "Jen" never once actually said she wanted the open marriage. It was the therapist driving it foreword. Fifth the lawsuit, which included two other couples and their stories, was a success as the recording was proof beyond the he said she said of the therapist's actions in all this. She had her licence revoked. Sixth after reading the journal and mailing it back to her some time past "Robert" time to figure everything out. Eventually "Robert" was the one to reach out as "Jen" was respecting his demands for distance. Seventh when "Robert" confronted "Jen" if she had cheated she admitted she was offered a chance but declined. The throw away comment you made about the open marriage couple that was their friends, they made a pass at her, preassuring her to join them in a threesome but she declined. It was why "Jen" had been cutting that couple out of their lives prior to the therapist event. Eighth it was the Paris trip that got them back on actual speaking terms. "Robert" seeing the steps "Jen" was taking to return to who she was before the mental breakdown helped him realise "Jen" was as much a victim as he was, plus he too was now seeing a therapist, so he was open to small simple dates and going from there. His final update was three years later, they had gotten married, two daughters, currently fixing up a run down house they got cheap. "Jen" had quit the job to focus on the kids and being a good wife as she recognized the stress of the non-profit was starting her back down the road of her previous mental breakdown. "Robert" meanwhile was happy, even though life hit him with a crappy left hook, as the smiles of his ladies help him when depression came out. He then went on a decent "AITA" reply spree offering advice based on his experience. At some point during covid he deleted his reddit account. There are more details but this is what I recall off the top of my head.

Man, the stories are good, but constantly using words like 'right?' as if seeking approval is annoying.

Another SIMP story. In this woman’s bad decisions and choices, everyone but her is at fault: her friend is guilty, the therapist is guilty, even God is guilty, but she isn’t. The funny thing is that the doormat named Robert supports this.

I don't like cutting her out of his life without a very much needed conversation. Seems pretty obvious that she was at least partly manipulated by her therapist, and he's making the same mistake as so many men in these stories: he's expecting the woman to somehow be 'an adult' and 'reasonable', while she is, in fact, a woman, and capable of wild things simply because of that. It's not because she's bad, it's because she's a woman, and thus needs plenty mansplaining.

I like they're trying. Indeed: relationships are messy, and the ambush was not really that bad, as said: she was at least manipulated by that shrink, and she hadn't strayed yet. He did well to immediately nuke it. Hiding the miscarriage was prolly worse, actually. But many relationships are built on illusions, and these crises and actually working on them, help spouses to become more real, more honest, shed rose glasses, taking each other for granted, learning about what relationships are actually about, other than the 'happy wife, happy life' kind of debilitating nonsense.
