If Mr. Sheaffer could see how many Sheaffer fountain pens and mechanical pencils I have collected during the past 5 years, he would be proud of me. Sheaffer's is my favorite pens' brand!
I have several of the Sheaffer School/Student pens. They are some of the best pens I have ever used. I would easily be happy if every pen was a Sheaffer School/Student Pen. Sheaffer Pen Co. went through great difficulty during the war because it couldn't produce as many pens as the dealers demanded. Timex and Ingersoll Watch Companies went through the same trouble. We think of the troops and families, but not often the companies that make the sacrifices.
I collect vintage beauty-trade magazines. When the USA joined the War (December 1941), factories had to switch to making products and equipment for the military. For the duration of the War, these companies also had to change their advertising to apologize for the lack of inventory, and to encourage people to take good care of their current equipment. Some ads warned of counterfeit products and unscrupulous practices, such as refilling a brand-name bottle with a no-name product, or ironing metal permanent wave pads so they could be filled with no-name chemicals and reused.
Great video! Really amazing production value for being 70+ years old, and very informative. What was the venue for this? Was it meant to be shown to their pen dealers?
