I had three Sheaffer pens and love them all.

Fountain pens died a slow death. Long after the ballpoint had been introduced, you could still buy fountain pens in any bookstore. I used fountain pens exclusively through the late 1960's. By then, virtually all models were the cartridge variety. Sheaffer and Wearever were the common cartridge brands in any book or department store. The price was $1 for either, and often included several extra ink cartridges.

Yes. The Sheaffer $ 1 cartridge pen remained in stores for decades. I bought one when I was 10 years old in the 1980's and still have it. You can still buy cartridges. Fountain pens are starting to pick up steam again.

15 year old here. When I’m not using my custom 823 I use a 3rd generation snorkel (circa 1950s) for my school work. I love my fountain pens, but I can understand why people steer clear of them. I like the work of cleaning them out and taking care of them because I know what I’ll get in return, but admittedly a biro is much easier to work with. Especially if you aren’t too interested in them or the quality of your writing.

I love Sheaffer. I was born in the 2000s so never got a chance to see a fountain pen casually available in stores. Vintage pens are my favorite to use. It’s sad to see these pens aren’t used much anymore.
