What the longevity of the wood when rock isn't placed under the treated pieces?
@site-prep
@site-prep 3 года назад
Hi Randy, this is the same ground-contact rated lumber that would be used in deck posts, etc. I believe they say it's usually good for at least 40 years.

Wow!!! This team arrived at my home this morning- right on time. What an awesome job they did! I could not be more pleased. They were very professional. I felt bad in that I should have had a tree stump removed- they were able to work around it! Thank You ‘Site Preparation Team’ . I would certainly recommend your team to anyone who needs prep work done for a shed 🙏.

Do I really have to remove the grass before I lay down that black woven sheet? I have back problems and removing that grass would kill me so that's why I'm asking so if I don't have to remove the grass that would be great because where my shed is going the ground is level, I mean perfect so if I could just get away with just laying down that woven plastic that would be awesome. Anyway, this is a great video and very informative, thank you. Thumbs up👍 on your video.

Hi William, it's usually best to remove the grass because the top level of soil is more likely to settle overtime. Also, if you add the perimeter of 4x6 lumber on top of the grass, your shed will be that much higher when the foundation is finished, which can be a problem if you are moving things with wheels in and out of the shed. By digging out the grass, you can get the door of your shed closer to ground level. Just some things to consider. Good luck with your project!

@@site-prep Hey buddy thank you for getting back to me and for the info. You're absolutely right about the foundation, I didn't think about that. Thank you and take care bud.

I noticed you had it 3 levels high - about 16 inches, could we do 2 levels high for 11 inches? any detriment to that? It would help the shed be closer to the ground and at grade
@site-prep
@site-prep 2 года назад
Yes, you should be able to do that. You want the foundation to be as close to grade as possible on whichever side the shed door will be located.

Hello, I am states away from you and just hired someone to build a foundation. I supplied your instructions and your videos to the contractor (which are just awesome and thorough) I am wondering if you could answer a question …what would cause random soft squishy areas in my 22’ x 32’ pad ? The contractor said not to worry it would dry out, it had rained the day before he started…but I am very worried my building is arriving next week and I am just sick. I would appreciate ANY you may have. Thank you

Hi there, It could be that the ground underneath is a bit damp or that the stone wasn't tamped particularly well. At this point, your best bet may be to let it dry out as much as possible and then tamp it again. If you're able to get some, you could also add a bit more crushed stone when tamping the soft areas. Good luck!

Would plastic work in your application in stead of fabric?
@site-prep
@site-prep 4 года назад
Hi Eliyyah R, I'm not totally sure what type of plastic you have in mind. It needs to be a material that allows water to drain through so it doesn't sit inside the shed foundation. It should also be strong enough to withstand the weight and roughness of the gravel on top of it without deteriorating.

Hi, so I was asking particularly about 6 mil polyethylene. It’s what I had so I just went ahead and used it. Basically, since I was building my yard up, I didn’t need to dig down. I just put my treated 4x6 around it stacked two high laying flat. I used the 6 mil sheeting as my weed barrier and stapled it to the insides (like you guys), then poured my gravel on top of that. I didn’t do any drainage underneath or poke holes in it. I guess if I have to I can use the sides since my foundation is 1.5 ft wider than the shed all the way around. There’s room for me to dig down around the sides to poke holes in the sheeting “if I have to”. This is why I was asking. Thanks!

Sounds good! Hopefully it doesn't hold too much moisture in there :).
