That exhaust note is heavenly, thanks for showing us the ride, best car channel on RU-vid in my opinion.

The fact that that Maserati was so much fun and character and you say you never went above 50mph is one of the reasons I like older cars. Any damn fool can jump into an M3, do some ridiculous speed on a motorway and get 6 weeks in jail. It is something else again to fettle a classic car, use it as intended and enjoy the mechanical experience. They are more than just cars.

Always wanted cars like these growing up but quickly realize I’ll never be able to afford a chance to drive one let alone own one. So I decided to become an engineer so I can just make myself one, graduating this spring and excited to get started!

Classic old car, driven by a classic old bloke. Makes the heart sing...

I was living near Monte Carlo in '95 and Brooks was having a Maserati auction. They had the Fangio 250 Nurburgring car and some others and they asked me to put my Ghibli in as a sort of filler. It was fun being around all these famous cars. The most interesting one there was a barn find sports racer with a V 12 motor. The owner had cobbled together some sort of remote control stuff so he could start the car and warm it up while having his coffee.

I dont think I have more eagerly awaited new episodes on a channel like this one for a long time! Now I want a damn pre war car lol

Love the stories about the various Maseratis. I have a bit of a soft spot on the older Grand Prix Maseratis, so naturally, the stories of not just one, but _two_ 8CMs, the ex-Earl Howe (3013) and ex-Whitney Straight (3011) cars, certainly picked my attention! The ex-Stan Jones and ex-Juan Manuel Fangio 250Fs were just the cherry on the top of the cake!

Of course people are interested in what you have to say, you sir are a humble, witty, intelligent man who knows his stuff. Started watching a few videos back and really enjoy all aspect of what you show us. I was lucky to be brought up with a dad who had Aston Martins and Alfa's, i personally restored a V8 vantage, i had a bodyshop that did a lot of classic restorations, he had that was built by them as their show car for the earls court motor show in the 80's, it got broken into so went to Aston Martin for some repairs, they called me to say what a good job i did and could i let them have some of the paint we used as they couldn't match it, i used the same paint manufacturer as original and i think Spies Hecker if i remember right. That exhaust note reminded me of driving his Alfa 2600 spider, he has 3 of them and one he has had almost 50 years, triple twin carbs and a straight pipe is heaven! You remind me very much of a man who did the mechanics on my dad's Aston''s, i forget his name as i was a kid but loved watching him on visits to his workshop in Portsmouth, he taught me to 'toe and heel' around Goodwood in a DB4 when i was 14! An English man watching you from Portugal, Keep doing what your doing!

Hi Ivan,the "other chap" you mentioned when talking about the (in)famous(!) Harrow flat was Jonathan Williams who was a works Ferrari driver in the 60,s We met him in the South of France in the late 90,s when he had taken to living in a motorhome with his partner Linda.She was selling mobile homes on the site where we stayed & we had just bought one from her so we ended up having a good social time.He was co writing a book entitled "A French Kiss With Death",all about Le Mans & the making of the Steve McQueen movie in which he drove one of the camera cars which was McQ ueen,s own Porsche 908.I have a copy of the book.I should also mention that we lived in Harrow from 1979-2007 about 5-10mins walk from the Pinner Road flat.I had a long chat with Dave Brody a while ago about this as he was one the occupants for a time.They would have bets on who could run naked down the garden before a train went past;the line ran along the bottom of the garden! L.J.K. Setright wrote an amazing article about the musical character of the Six and Twelve cylinder engines, but I cannot for the life of me find a copy! I think it was initially about the Honda CBX 6 cylinder motorcycle, but as is his wont, he diverged upon multiple tangents!

500 pounds for a 250F? Amazing. My father was offered a blower Bentley with a Brooklands history just after the war for 500 quid, but he told me that with petrol rationing you just couldn’t drive it anywhere....so he bought a Morris Oxford. I told him he was insane, but he said that in 1947 or 1948, they were just old cars that had been laid up for almost a decade.....Invictas, Hispanos, Bugatti’s, all sorts of wonderful cars ripe for the picking.
