SHEDSOUNDS is the latest project helmed by Ian Beabout and Derek Pavlic (Colouratura, Refestramus). Featuring the unique talents of the ShedSounds house band, Jerry King (bass) and Derek Ferguson (drums), SHEDSOUNDS are out to continue the concept of the 'orchestral rock band,' fusing hard rock and bluesy guitar riffs with flute, viola and glockenspiel with unusual song structures.
ABOUT:
I was watching the Andrei Tarkovsky film "Stalker" at the shed one night when this little riff popped into my head. It started over the famous cart ride sequence and before long, I could no longer pay attention to the film so I quickly grabbed my phone and sang into into a voice memo.
Months later after the move, I stumbled across this voice recording and a few others and decided to combine them. Most of the song was written on flute and transposed to other instruments, a process aided immensely by Derek Pavlic's fine arrangement work.
Lyrically, I drew heavily on the images in Tarkovsky's films. It's a bit of a 'tone poem' in this sense, but I do believe that some of this was an outlet for my 'nostalgia' for the place in which I grew up.
Super thanks to my 'band' for this, but especially Derek Pavlic - who pushed me to finish this song and believed in it, even on days when I was unsure or second guessing myself. It was his persistence that made this a reality.
Two mixes of this piece were created, one in stereo that was mastered conventionally, and a separate multi channel Dolby Atmos mix which will be available on streaming shortly. :-)
