🎉 retro greetings from coastal Mississippi . This song came out in 1981. It is still so listenable in 2024. One of my favourite songs. So glad to have been living in the 80's❤😂🎉
When I heard this song on the radio, I always imagine a guy with a suit and a hat, and a briefcase getting on a commuter train to go to work. I never imagined it was the guy actually driving the train, the conductor! Cool! 🚂
@@BotanyDegreePilkerton but she happy. Isn't that enough. Isn't that what life is about. Being happy and living our best life. Sometimes people over analyse too much.
I’m handicapped, and I just got a job at a company that does playground equipment. All of my coworkers love me and embrace my disability. It’s such a joy, makes me think of this song!
Sounds like you stole this story from Seinfeld, lol. You are George Costanza character. Season 9 Episode 1. This song is actually played in the episode..
The song is pure pop genius. Nothing to take away, nothing to add. And her vocal range is amazing. Also the video is pure 80´s gold, just the style which somebody calls bad, but when you thing about it - how original and fresh is this compared to the videos of today? Of course, different strokes for different folks. But my definite opinion is this. And dear Lord how beautiful is she.
I do enjoy the simplicity of this song, no deep bullshit or the musician having to tell you the meaning in some interview, it’s just an enjoyable song and a great music video.
I have a slight obsession with 1978- 1982 and any movies/music from those years. One of the best and saddest movies from 1981 'Out of the Blue' and other ones like 'Times Square' and 'Over the Edge'. Wonder if I was young and died then came back reincarnated in 1982. Was born in 82' but always felt as if I belonged in another time. Never felt at home here or as if I belong, but many people feel that way so more than likely one of those pesky human feelings again OH and 'Grave of the Fireflies'
80s was worst time in human history for music, art, fashion, hair, makeup...i knew it at the time too and wished id grown up in the late 60s when women were hot and music was great
I can't express enough how proud my Scottish mother was of this woman, LOVED HER!! I grew up with my Mom singing this song and blasting it on the radio. Miss those days.
@@brigingthemap And Kramer was more than happy to enjoy his Ritz crackers at the office before going to the restaurant with the gang from Brandt-Leland
I'll tell ya what. I'm old. I am. When this song came out, I was well into adulthood. I've heard so so so many tunes in my life, and honest to god, all genres, this is like Top 5 for me. Its obviously "pop", but it transcends that, too. It's just amazing.
I agree with you there. I couldn't have said it better myself. I am 48 and a half years old and this song and this video still makes my heart pound. This lady is really great. She is smoking hot!
This song just played on the radio in Portland region today on Saturday March 26th 2022 around 6 p.m. Instant flashback to my early childhood, when I heard it playing in the car while my mom was driving. It put a smile on my face, so I sang along and continued singing it to my wife when I got home.
Elaine's off in the Bizarro world, George only calls when he wants something, and I'm left here stuck with this chicken dinner. Which, by the way, was for two.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this beautiful song!🫠 Brings back such happy memories of the 80's. Sheena Easton is the BEST. LOVE her songs and unique voice! Nobody holds a candle to Sheena!🌹🫠🩷
@@lilyleon1475 Only in theory. Since the 1980s, when there was a huge variety and already highly advanced technology, music has taken a slide into the abyss. The 1990s were still great, although not as innovative and already a little narrow in terms of variety. But the average quality of post-2000 music is just horrendous. Obviously, in every era, there are wonderful pieces. But 1980s had the richest combination of audio quality, video quality, variety, and innovation. It is easy to determine from how many memorable songs of all kinds there are. For example, post-2010, there are literally just a few, compared to the countless hundreds from 1980s. Today, music is very limited in terms of style, there is often unbearable repetitiveness, etc. Obviously, if people became internally free and independent again, like so many were 40 years ago, music could shine again or even more, thanks to the basically unlimited audiovisual capabilities of today. But the problem is that most artists tend to conform to certain unhealthy trends that turn their creations into a monotonous mess.
@@jakubkrcma - What do you mean by "only in theory"? This isn't an academic subject we're talking about, it's purely subjective. Let me explain - for most of us, we'll identify the music at the time of our formative years and teens as the best, simply because that's what we identify with. I grew up in the 70s and loved the music from my generation, but now I'm older, I appreciate the music back then was written and performed by artistes, using real instruments and not synthesisers. So much so, I've gone back to the 60s and actually prefer the music of that time period. I can't say the same for the 80s, simply because the synth, killed off a lot of the creativeness and allowed any idiot to creative an automated backing track and sing to it. Look at the Stock, Aitken and Waterman hits for example. All sounded the same, but with different artists and a very polished video. Well, I listen to music for the musical content - I don't want the video and the difference here is that music from the 60s and 70s, were mainly heard on the radio and MTV changed all that. You make some good points and I agree with a lot of what you said, but returning to my original comment now, I maintain that 80's music is easily bettered and JJBgaming might agree, if he / she actually listened to music from the two decades previously.
@@lilyleon1475 I love music from all eras, lots of stuff from 1950-1980. But 1980s were the turning point where stuff stopped going up and started to go down for me. When you said that it can be bettered, I thought you were referring to something post-1990 because of the chronological dependency of the verb to better. Clearly, the '60s and '70s were the peak of non-electronic music. A wonderful mix of modern music with more classical instruments.
@@jakubkrcma In total agreement, especially where, post 1980 marks the turning point and decline of the music industry in general. There aren't many people I come across that agree with me on this point, so it's refreshing to know there are other music lovers out there, cringing at useless talent shows for entertainment.
This song is about her being ecstatic about finally finding a man with a job. 😂 Sheena could really, really sing. That's real talent, not autotune. Also, I can't hear this without thinking of Cosmo Kramer at Brandt Leland and George Costanza at Play Now.
The song is about a woman who waits at home all day for her man to come home from work. The music video was filmed on the Bluebell Railway, a heritage line running between East and West Sussex in England. The video stars London and South Western Railway No. 488, a preserved LSWR 0415 Class locomotive.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I DIDNT KNOW NOTHING OF THAT STORY. I THINK SHE GOT A BEAUTIFUL VOICE. ACTUALY, PERFECT FOR ME! GREETINGS AND VIRTUAL HUGGS FROM VENEZUEA? I HOPE YOU TAKE CARE!
I played this song because my Wife's Who is in Heaven Now, just loved this song and would sing it while it was on the Radio and driving me to work, GBNF Eternally Yours ❤❤️❤❤❤❤️❤️ Mike
Perfect pop tune from the early 80's. I love the arrangement with a nice balance of programmed and traditional instruments (let alone the nice lead and back vocals as well as the terrific middle eight)
Great Video! Sheena Easton is a beautiful singer, actress, entertainer, performer and person! Beautiful outfit and hairstyle! Sheena Easton is incredibly talented! I have always loved Sheena Easton! I was only 3 when this song came out! Thank you for posting and sharing this wonderful video!
I have great memories of this song. I was staying with an English family as part of a language study trip in Biggin Hill, Kent, in Engalnd when I heard it on the radio. I was 11 and so happy to get the single at the record store in London. I then kept listening to it on my record player back to France. Such a catchy and refreshing song. Everything was cool…
My mom had a stack of 45s she'd play while she was cleaning the house. This song was one of them. I love this song! Such great memories of my 80s childhood.
Back in 1980 when I was 15 years of age I had the biggest crush on Sheena Easton. Two of the singles I brought that year was this one and Ashes to Ashes by Bowie.....happy days.
I’m the same age as you wasn’t it great to have such rich music and now I’m an international lady bog diva legend in the gay community entertaining men from all over the world little did I expect that at 54 now
Ashes to Ashes.... one of the greatest songs on 1980! My mum bouggt this and Ashes to Ashes. There were too many amazing songs to afford them all in the 80's! I always remember the songs mum bought around that time and the tape we used to play in the car.. Ashes to Ashes, Shandi, Winner Takes It All, 9 to 5, Downhearted, Dreamin'... so many good songs. I was only 3 when I started buying records at the age of three in 1980. It was hard to buy all the records I wanted with $5 a week pocket money when a single was $2.49/$2.99 and an album was $10.99. Which of course had climbed to $19.99 by the time 1989 came about and records were being phased out.

It only SEEMS like you grew up on songs like this because now that you're older, you... ... ... um, ...because it was so long ago that now your mind makes it seem like... ... ...your mind makes it seem like after all that time that these are the same songs... ... ... ...the same songs that they were when... ... ...when... ...back when y-you heard them growing up, and... ... ...uummmm, ... ... ... ...Aughhh, okay, I got nothing. Okay, yeah, y-you actually Did grow up on songs like this... 😐.
Easton had to change the song's title here in the US and Canada due to not releasing it on our continent until the 9 to 5 movie and Dolly Parton's title track coming out between the time Easton released the song in her native UK and the time she released it here in North America. That's why I sometimes forget this banger's original title. I went a bit too long without listening to it.
@@josephfernandez8015 My wife stays at home. I love her and she loves me. She cooks beautifully and she is always smiling and laughing because she knows that the only thing I do is loving and taking care of her.
This song was played during lunch everyday without fail when i was in junior high school. After i entered high school, my english teacher at cram school, who is young but loves 70s and 80s music, once played this song on his youtube by chance. Then i immediately recognised it. Couldn’t believe such a great song was played in a rural japanese school without anyone knowing it, haha
A beautiful lady Sheena Easton ALWAYS was. I had a CRUSH on both her and Olivia Newton John back in the early 1980s! Those were some special times indeed!😀👍🎶🎵🎹🎶❤👍🎵❤
One of my favorite female singers!!!! Love that voice ❤️. You keep singing for us 💖 we love you Sheena!!!! Peace out for now y'all ✌️😀. Be blessed and safe 🙏.
Music is such an odd thing. I have not heard this song in 20 years - but it popped into my head and I still remember the words. So, weird. I like the song.
This Classic Sheena Easton song first hit the airwaves in 1981 (my high school graduation 🎓 year). I always loved it, and had a teenage boy crush on beautiful Sheena Easton. I loved her and Olivia Newton John with "Physical" which came out months later I believe in 1981-82. Great memories! I miss that time period.😊😊👍😇🙏✝️♥️
Oh my god, the singer looks like a doll! Love her blue outfit, but more than anything I've been in love with her voice since I was a baby. I'm now seeing her for the first time at 35-years-old 😂
