Brian always dreamed with the 427 Shelby Cobra. He wanted one so bad that 30 years ago he bought an original Cobra engine (the famous 1966 427 side oiler V8) to put in his future Cobra. But life happens and his dream was postponed for over three decades. Finally three years ago he was able to find a 2001 Superformance Cobra Replica to pair it with his amazing 427 V8 motor.

How is she coming along Rick??? I hope you get her to where you want her to be and have many years of driving the long winding roads to no where and everywhere :) My dream is also the AC cobra. Here in Aus they are a hike more expensive. Oneday.

I really want to thank you for your video on the Cobra. I have one also. A Factory Five build and a Engine Factory 351 Windsor, puts out about 460hp, all Edelbrock heads, manifold and carburator. You comments were so good and told me that you had experienced much of what I had, burnt leg on side pipes. When I first got it out of New York I didn't realize what I was buying and was showing off in front of an outdoor restuarant and it fish tailed on me. It was at that point I realized that I had a "race car" in my hand. It is the most Iconic car I have ever seen. It has had it's picture taken over a hundred times. Sometimes it is frightening to drive, it is so fast. I have good Highway Patrol buddies that keep me in check. The first one I ever saw was in November 1963, a 427 SC on Suburban Ford's, Sacramento, California. It was $6, 614.00. I had just left boot camp and was headed for the fleet aircraft carrier Uss Constellation and to a war we weren't in yet and was broken hearted that I couldn't afford it. 50 years later it presented the opportunity to obtain one , but this time a replica. I love driving it and will go to my Green Beret son in Special Forces 10. Thanks again. Oh mine is the same color combination as yours.

Beautiful car! I had Scorpion roller rocker arms and some other mods done to my 302 66 Cobra replica last weekend. This boosted the performance in a noticeable way. I was going from a 35 mile-per-hour Zone to a 60 mile-per-hour Zone on rural highway and I pressed the pedal down almost to the floor in 4th gear. I nearly lost control of the car and almost crapped in my britches. Even with a 302 these replicas can be dangerous if you don't respect the power.

There is a guy who has documented his build on a Factory Five and he pulled a 302 out of an Explorer for a few hundred bucks because those came from the factory with GT40 heads which were aftermarket heads for the Mustang in the 90s but came stock in the Explorers. He rebuilt the engine and estimates 300 or so rear-wheel horsepower. He was using a Dragy or similar device and going for 0-60 on a rural highway, and his best run out of 3 he got 4.05 seconds. Again, a very mild rebuild of a 302 out of an Explorer engine. Made me rethink my dream Cobra build using a Ford Racing crate 460W (I prefer that one over their 427W because it comes with 40 extra HP although not as 'sexy' sounding as saying '427' lol); Ford still offers their 340HP 302 crate engine, and that might be the best balance of handling and power. Then again, since I am dreaming, their 302 based 363 crate engine rated at 507HP is even MORE tempting and the best of most worlds--small block with good power...

@@culcune I agree. Taco Joe has a great channel and is an excellent presenter. Since my comment 2 years ago my original engine threw a rod so I had it replaced with a 370 HP / 350 FT LBS engine. It has incredible power for such a light vehicle.

Well done mate. Bloody nice. I’m about to retire and my present to myself is a Shelby Cobra. Not sure what year or if ‘new original’ or registered repro, but I AM getting one. My budget is $150k (Australian dollars) so am free to get a decent original or an amazing repro.

Wow, a REAL "427" not the bogus 428. Too bad Ford wasn't more serious in developing their racing program back then. MUCH rather have one of these than any 'Vette !!

After selling my 7th Corvette I was thinking about one of these for a change of toys. But; without a rag top for the sudden rain storms, and AC, South Florida is not the place so patiently awaiting the new mid-engine Corvette.
@sbullar
@sbullar 6 лет назад
Did the Cobra come with any kind of top ( soft or hard ). You always see them without which means only a dry and warm weather driver. You would think it would have a roll bar going clear across instead of just driver protection. I had a 1968 Shelby GT-500 KR convertible at one time, always wanted a Cobra.

On some kit cars you can get a removable hardtop. But unless you're a VERY short person they're pretty much worthless. Even installed they tend to leak. Rags tops have been made, same story. Much more a cold weather car. They're so hot driving them you don't need a heater. Your toasting while coasting.

Better decide who the car goes to ahead of time or they will be in court fighting over it. Will be sold and the money split.

What's the deal with the two ugly pairs of "bumper cantilevers" at front and rear?! Why not just get rid of'em?!
@IndependenceCityMotoring
@IndependenceCityMotoring 5 лет назад
Yeah always wondered why these were on all the cars. But then I picture the car without them and I think it wouldnt look as good.
@5thGenNativeTexan
@5thGenNativeTexan 5 лет назад
The little black ones like this car has are the "quick jack" bumpers, which is what the original Cobra's had at the track. A cantilever jack could be rolled out, put under the front or rear bumper jack mounts and the entire front and / or rear could be lifted quickly to change tires. It's authentic, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ;)
