Great review. I've read some people have suggested getting a new clutch spring to have a better feel of the catch point. Some owners I talked to think the OEM is fine. Have you done that mod or like the clutch feel? I'm the same as you can drive manual but getting an R and haven't driven a manual full time in a while
I picked up my 2018 GT350 (Chassis # J3216) brand new in December 2018 with 4.2 miles on the odometer. I'm now at 17,700 miles with no issues. The selling features for me were port fuel injection, naturally aspirated, and Tremec manual gear box, all of which are dying technologies in the auto industry. I dropped the factory fill at 886 miles in favor of Amsoil Signature Series 5W-50 and have changed every 5k since then. I did stick with the OEM Motorcraft oil filter though. I keep my oil level dead centered between high/low on a stone cold engine, and I've only topped up with a total of 30 oz. of oil since new. I'm beyond happy with that, considering Ford allows for up to 1 quart per 500 miles consumption rate on the Voodoo. I replaced the original engine air filter and cabin air filter at 12k miles (lots of pollen and such in Georgia got them nasty fast) with OEM Motorcraft replacements. I'm still on the factory tires with ~45% tread life left, running 32 PSI cold since new and adjusting once per month as weather dictates. All in all, best car I've ever owned without a doubt. Serves as my daily driver during the week and my Appalachian foothills cruiser on the weekends. She has definitely carved a special place in my heart and raised the bar for what I expect a driving experience to be. I'm glad to hear you're still loving yours man. Keep her clean and drive safe. 🤙
I own a 2016 Shelby GT350 purchased NOV 2019, with only 400 miles when bought from first owner ....... Purchased for $46000 ...Awesome!! car like new. Very happy ..I didn’t have to pay dealer markup.
A lot of people recommend changing the oil every 3000 miles, as waiting till 10,000 on any performance car is much harder on it and the engine won’t last as long
You’re just like me when it comes to manual. I used to only buy automatics then I bought a manual. Maaaaaaan let me tell you I love me some manual transmission. People ask me why I only buy the manual version of the cars that I buy... also those same people have never driven a manual. Lap times, quarter mile times, etc are irrelevant on the streets when all I want to do is cruise and get on it every now and then.
I feel you, every time an idiot tell me, "you're crazy to DD a manual car" "how do you deal with the traffic? the clutch leg." I immediately know dude you have no idea what you're talking about. the shifting becomes muscle memory, you get used to it it becomes so natural after a few years doing it. I can drink Starbucks in one hand shift and steer with the other. I can stop and go in second gear without clouting in most of the time sometimes dropping to first and clutches shift at very low speeds. I literarily only need the clutch to engage first and get the car rolling from full stop. and I do it all subconsciously. anybody can do this really if you've driven enough manuals for a long period of time. and the joy you get from spiritedly driving and being a hooligan sometimes with the manual not even Ferrari can math that feeling. (full disclosure I've driven the 488 spider, that feels great, but it's lacking that manual connection to the car)
Alberto J. Mollinedo yea man it’s hard to explain the feeling to people who don’t get it 😂. I just love manual sports cars. I’m actually glad everyone doesn’t get it. That means that me driving manual is like a skill that everybody doesn’t have.
Good long-term review. About the dealer mark-up, back in 2016 I went to my local Ford dealership to purchase a Shelby GT-350. They were asking nearly $20,000 above invoice. I tried negotiating but they would not budge on pricing - so I crossed the street and purchased a 2016 Challenger Hellcat. Absolutely loved the Hellcat and in 2018 purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk which I love even more than the Challenger. I can only imagine how many more Shelby GT350s would have been sold if it were not for dealer mark-ups. Same thing is happening now with the Shelby GT500. There is no way I am paying $125,000 for a Mustang (Shelby or not). I understand dealers need to make money but this is ridiculous. Anyhow, that’s my Shelby story. By the way, earlier today I ordered the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating to give it a try. Thanks for the video.
Driven a hellcat before, it's also an awesome car. The gt500 is not worth 125k, 100k I understand, but not 125. You're going to like the ceramic coating, it's a good performing, inexpensive option!
times have changed since then, and even for my self back then I did not get one because of the crazy mark ups. However I just recently bought a brand new 2019 Gt350R below sticker price. Its worth it, glad i waited and paid a fair price for it.
GT350 owner here. I agree with what you said. Especially about taking care of it. I believe many owners do not and they are the ones that have the failed engines. There is a lot I love about the GT350 and you mentioned most of it. I do not like the poor fitment of the panels and bumper. Also the interior has some rattles that should not happen in a vehicle this expensive. I love listening to the exhaust sound and most times I do. But when I feel like listening to some music it sucks. Absolutely no bass at all compared to other vehicles. But I do love it and will keep it.
Such a rad car. The color is nice too because it tones down the flashiness of the car. It is hardly a sleeper, but it is definitely a little more stealth. So cool.
Wow... what a detailed review! I’m honestly stuck between a 2017 Gt350 in the used market or an a90/1 Supra in either used or new. Only thing that leans me away from the Gt350 is the daily drivability and the amount of maintenance required for what would be my daily! Any feedback from anyone would be well appreciated!!
I daily drove my gt350 for a couple years, it was fine. Just make sure you do the maintenance in the recommended intervals. I've driven the new supra, and I would hands down take the gt350 10 out of 10 times.
@@Danscapee I'm test driving them both tomorrow, will have one of them by tomorrow night, let's see!! But yea the Supra looks sick, $100,000 look for under 60k. The roar of the 5.2 liter tho,
Seriously, since I got mine I've been enjoying watching long term review videos now as much as the all initial drives when they first came out. It's such a joy to see everyone who's had one now for a few years still go on and on about how much they love it, it makes me even more excited to know it's not a car that I'll get tired of anytime soon. I think the fact that the GT500 and C8 have come out since and I have 0 envy whatsoever is also a great sign haha
My 2017 Gt 350 consumes about a quart of oil every 1000 miles, took it to Ford to check it out and they told me that’s normal even though I rarely shift past 4000 rpms. Now have 30848 miles on it and only have lighter wheels as a mod ( saved 9 pounds per corner) acceleration much improved down low! Great review.
Drive Steady p 51 wheels rotary forged, great no tune mod that won’t void your warranty. Ford actually installed them for me. Cost for wheels was 1340 dollars. Didn’t want to pay thousands more for a car I will never track. They get the job done. I have same stock size tires but p zeros. You well feel the difference in acceleration down low. Look at Auto Fanatic youtube review on them, that’s why I bought them. Those stock wheels are boat anchors ( 30 plus pounds). Thanks for responding.
Luis García I know Ford is full of crap! I will continue to service my oil changes at the dealer so that if anything goes wrong I at least have documented the concern. Thanks.
Good review and great looking GT350. Next time, quiet the background music a bit more to not compete with your voice. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your car.
I try to never say negative stuff about other RU-vidrs’ work but maaan that music is annoying! Other than that I enjoyed the video and your remarks about the GT350.
Drive Steady I mean well and absolutely no disrespect. I’ve been working on perfecting my own formula for videos a long time (years) and I certainly made a lot of mistakes over the years. I found out most people prefer to just hear your voice when you talk and after countless hours of production I have to agree. I think your video would be much better with no music (or make it very, very quiet - just really in the background) because you do have interesting stuff to say about one of my all time favorite cars in the world! Or if you wanna start with music just let it fade away when you start talking. Just my 2c. Thanks for making the video and all the best to You!
Drive Steady Yes - planing in a 20 or 19 model. Has to be new. Giving it around three months but not going to pay those dealer markups. I am in LA but the dealer won’t let you drive it unless you are 100% committed.
@@giveyouashot I'm in LA myself, you have to find the right dealer ;). But especially with the base 350, you shouldn't be paying markup anymore, many are going for discounts. You might have to go out of state for sure. Forums might help as well, there's threads on where to find 350's. Also if you're talking new, you don't need to test drive it. Trust me. You've seen all the videos online. I put the order in for my R and never even so much as sat in it until the day it was delivered a year later. It's not a car that's a lot of fun at I-don't-own-this-car speeds anyway, you're not going to learn much going around the block except that it's quite comfortable and relaxed when you want it to be. If you let a test drive stand in the way, you might miss out on what will go down in history as one of the all time american greats and will regret it. It's up there with the GNX, the Ford GT's, and even the original GT350. I have zero envy over the GT500 or C8 either, couldn't care less, it's that good.
I have a chance to buy one of these, same color but without the stripes....havn't driven a stick in 20 years though....its a 2016 with only 7,000 miles on it.
?Hey.Remove the resonators.Install a Corsa Xpipe.I got a ‘17 Shelby and done a few mods.Gap?Yeah.It’s not that concerning Corsa.It’s pricey,but the Sound,and fit and finish,is worth every penny.You can modify it a lot cheaper.
I am thinking of buying my first sports car, my current vehicle is a 2006 mazda 6 sr 2.3 nothing to crazy at all, do you recommend this or a normal gt? because the agency told me that the 350 was "difficult to drive" and even dangerous, something that worries me because the gt350 is my favorite mustang ever, I like the gt, but the presence of this is God, it feels different and I would be interested to know an opinion of someone more experienced, Which one should I buy?
@@DriveSteady A 2019 shelby here in my country costs me 45,000 dollars and a new gt about 41,000 dollars so it's pretty good, I like the shelby a lot more, I really worry about what the dealer told me "it's a bit dangerous" but I think that depends more on the driver
BMWs are keeping the manual for the most part. Toyotas are returning to the manual in their corrals and the gt 86, (too bad the supra is not) Even Aston Martin has a only manual model now after swearing that they were done with the manuals. Eve the new ford bronco boasts a manual transmission. Porsche I feel is going to abandon the manuals as well.
I enjoyed your review, I have my GT350 a year now and can't imagine any other new car today that I would rather own, with the Tremec 6 speed, Voodoo 5.2 and the sound it puts out. I started driving in the early 70's when manual transmission performance cars ran supreme on the streets. To this day I still enjoy the manual and the shear fun it is to drive compared to an automatic. With the cup 2 tires the Tramlining is something to get use to, but the rest is cake. My mods are resonator delete, mini spare, steeda jack bars and front mud flaps ...I also don't like the rear spoiler (SWING) as I will change to the spoiler delete look. So I say modify it and make it yours, as you said manual cars here in the US are slowing going away, so enjoy your Shelby as I doubt Ford will release a package like this again.
@@DriveSteady I went with the Corsa delete pipe that is 3" diameter, but I should have gone with the shorter and much cheaper LTH delete pipe from Lethal Performance first, as the pipe is a 2.75 diameter similar to the GT350/GT350R....Since my pipes are already cut for the Corsa there's no going back now. Stay with a delete pipe and keep the active exhaust....as it does quiet down in normal mode.
Interesting, I've been looking at the Ford performance system because I don't want to cut anything and maintain the valves. Thanks for the suggestion, it gives me another option!
@@DriveSteady after all the systems I've heard, the easiest way is to just keep the original X and have the resonators cut out and replace the with 2.75 pipe....that should duplicate the "R" sound the best and is the least expensive...but welding required..
Panel gaps like these are very common on most cars. Even Porsche and BMW. Check it out. Mustang panel gaps are not unique to the car. After reading about this, I looked at other brands and saw the same thing.
Not true at all, mine had pretty good fitment off the lot but has since shaken the rear quarters apart to look just like his in this video in just a few weeks. It's probably the largest negative and weakness about the car. Lots of manufacturers have quality issues these days, certainly with paint at least, but a car's panels looking like some fasteners have broken off with just a few hundred miles is pretty sad.
Great video. 10,000/1-year is too much and long for this engine. Maybe Ford updated their documentation, but in the digital copy I have (for my 2018 GT350) it says 5000k/6mo. 7500/1yr at most. www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/Catalog/owner_information/2018-Ford-Mustang-Supplement-version-1_su_EN-US_09_2017.pdf (page 51)
