This drive begins in Canon City, driving on Central Ave., then Field Ave.. Leaving Canon City, the video heads up County Road 9, Shelf Road, and ends in Victor, Colorado.
OMG took this road out of Canon City by ACCIDENT on this Christmas eve. In my Subaru Outback-- I have to admit I was a pretty scared at first but was TRULY AMAZED at the incredible beauty!!! I can't wait to come back in the Spring or Summer and check it out with my camera and hop out and do some exploring at the Sand Gulch area. Cool video! I had no idea where we were until after the fact. One of the best mistakes ever!
We drove this road in July 2010, a very scenic drive and a good short cut to Cripple Creek. Had heard the drive was not for the faint of heart, but we found the only hair-raising part was a 4 mile section at the end of the pavement heading north. The rest was a pleasant country drive. Thanks for posting. Just about as good as being there again!
Should have done it....from Victor to Canon. Better views but you didn't show any of the views. However this is my favorite road in Colorado. Also to the viewers this is during a drought year. Atreju H you are lucky you made it....I would NEVER take Shelf Rd in the winter. But she is incredible!
Moved to Victor recently and love it here. Very friendly people and low crime. Lots to do around here . Jobs are plentiful. The city is putting in new streets ,and 3rd street business is growing. The mine just got a 20 year expansion "They are still getting a lot of gold out of there". Nice small town atmosphere .Wonderful place to live!
Omg winter?!!?? My husband and I accidentally took this road one time from cañon city to cripple creek in our Subaru crosstek. I was pregnant and we are scared shitless too. Pavement ends??!!? Wadduya mean pavement ends!!!??
I took one road from Canyon City to about the same destination but it might have been Rt 11 of course it was a real long time ago and my mind isn't what it used to be lol also I remember going through a tunnel and thought I went by an old abandoned gold mine
I've got a belly full. NOT ONE SINGLE PICTURE ANYWHERE ON THE ADIT OF THE CARLTON TUNNEL TO DRAIN THE DEEP REACHES OF THE MINES IN VICTOR, and the most important item anywhere between Victor and Canon City. Long John Austin (7 feet, 7 inches tall) built that tunnel in record time. His son, John, jr and I were 19 years old buddies. On the spur of the moment in June, 1940 we jumped in his 1940 Plymouth Coupe (a newly acquired graduation present) to head for adventure in Alaska. We made it to Seattle where a Coast Guard Recruiter conned us into signing on the dotted line and we never made it to Alaska.
There is a small mountain on the south side of Victor whose historic name is Nipple Mountain, and I offered a small history on the subject but someone has apparently sensored it out of exixtence.

Victor is an Awesome place to live, I call it the Mayberry of the Rockies. I lived her since 2007 and never had a bad experience . Colorful people ,nice small town events, very low crime, 100 mile views, It has an ice rink , two museums ,Elks lodge, 2 diners , Hotel, Fishing at Scagway reservoir, Deer ,Fox and Elk roam the streets. Everyone know's everyone, In this small town of around 500 people. And of course there's always gossip of which 90% is BS .Friendly sheriff's department. If your living on the wrong side of the law you will quickly be ran out of town. Anderson & Low just made a pictorial book about Victor called "The City or Mines" . It was in the BBC news just a few days ago. Last night was the Christmas Parade and bonfire with music , hot chocolate , S'mores and singing. A wonderful place to live!
What you could do is slow down video, cut music to lower background, same music, and not forefront, and put into a 3 part videos so people can enjoy the scenery more, this is fast track to less and could score you much higher views if you 3 part this video.

Why are you running this so fast? It makes this trail and surroundings seem as if you don't give a damn, just something to post? I drove this trail this summer and it deserves to be 30 plus minutes long!
