Still pretty sure it's implemented wrong in-game. That may be right, but I've only ever known shrapnel shells to be used like they were in WWI. They would've been fired at a high angle before bursting at predetermined distance above the ground. The bursting charge would have released the shrapnel so the momentum of the shell's travel could do the rest and keep carrying the shrapnel down like a shotgun. Think a long distance canister shot. You can see old footage of them over no man's land. Get a burst in mid-air then the puff of dirt when the ground gets torn up. The way they showed it here is new to me, and the Soviets were the only ones to have their tanks be able to fire them. Even artillery dropped the use for the most part by WWII. I just assumed they worked the same way as the artillery's did
@@jakobburg8309 sounds like you are describing a fragmentation round, which is just HE with ball bearings inside, the shrapnel doesn't even have an explosive charge I don't think
My favorite shell is the APHEATGMRSAMSSAPCR shell *Armour piercing high explosive anti tank guided missle rocket surface to air missle sharpnel squash armour piercing composite rigid*
It penetrates armor, explodes while releasing a cloud of arrows, flips over the tank, transforms the tank crew into rabbids and turns the surrounding grass pink.
@@poccer7722 um you forgot the part where it's retopologizing the normalized concurrency between two sinoptic transversals. I always thought that was like the key feature of APHEATGRMSAMSSAPCR. oh wait this is APHEATGMRSAMSSAPCR? nvm then.
AP: Let's create spalling and shrapnel inside the tank APHE: Let's explode inside the tank HEAT: Let's send explosives inside the tank HE: Let's explode outside the tank Shrapnel: LEMME JUST FILL THE TANK WITH TINY METAL BALLS
Lol I don't know why they portray it in the game as something meant to pierce armor. In real life it just explodes outside of the armor and causes a massive shock wave meant to knock out the crew of a well protected vehicle. It does knock out the crew in the game quite a bit actually but it was never meant to kill just disable.
@@connorcolquhou5845 1) Any high explosive round will break/destroy nearby components due to the shrapnel and shockwave 2) You consider killing the crew not destroying the vehicle? 3) the whole point of 🅱️esh is to find a way around piercing the armor to kill the crew and damage the inside components 4) who cares it’s 🅱️esh
I like how in animations of different AP shells penetrating sloped armor, shells actually start to turn away from the armor plate. A nice touch that helps to understand sloped armor effectiveness better. Viewports on T-34 driver's hatch and machine gun ball mounts are still annoying AF though.
You forgot the most special German shell. The Nebelwerfer Baguette shell. It was later used for other purposes after taking another route and pass behind the Maginot Line.
Really sucks all the first AP shell animations are the same. Could be helpful for beginners to understand how different a standard AP shell is from APCBC.
If you had to own a tank that no longer exists due to it being scrapped, rusted, and forgotten, etc. What tank would you choose? My personal choices would be the Type-4 Chi-To(Chi means medium to means 5=medium 5th generation tank) The Type-3 Chi-Nu(Medium 3rd generation tank) and Type-5 Ho-Ru(Gun-11th generation tank)
I really like the helicopter and plane ones. Really nice job they did on these, if only they could use the money they spent on these new animations and BUY BETTER SERVERS! Or even better, spend the time making these to actually think about the games balance and fix that too.
Old vid but if i recall the APFSDS changed since I believe older apfsds now has a different dart model in the animation, I seebthat with my t62 but im not sure about other tanks
