@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Год назад
I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong … remember that initial chain 5 is serving as a double crochet and a chain 2 space . So when you reach the end , slip stitch into the 3rd chain. If you think it looks bigger than the rest of the round then I’d recommend redoing it and starting with a chain 4 instead and then creating a slip stitch into the 2nd chain to complete the round.

Good day! I am making your pattern in white for twins christening and am struggling with them being identical. I was wondering if you had any suggestion on any way to make them the same with a slight difference so they can be different? If that makes sense. 🤔
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 2 года назад
How lovely! Oh, boy that’s a good question. Something like every other row incorporating a bobble stitch would be nice but offhand I can’t say how that would affect chain counts etc. The easiest way would be to change the color of white slightly. Maybe do one in a cream and one in more of a white. If you’re open to changing colors , another option would be to make the white the base color on both but then make the chain rows a specific color for each blanket (for one child in a pastel pink and the other a pastel green for example ) That’s all I can really think of now . Keep me posted on how you dr ode to do it! 🧶💕

This is SO Beautiful! I want to make my mom one with family’s birthstone colors. a color for each of us is 21 colors. How do I determine how many rows of each color? I’d like an oversized throw size.? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated 💓
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Год назад
Well , let’s see…. the sample I made was 11x11 inches using a 4mm hook with weight 4 yarn (worsted/light worsted) . The sample had 6 colors with white in between. So based on that , your square would probably be about 38 -40 inches square after using all 21 colors. A throw is typically about 50 to 60 inches so you could probably reach the size you wanted if you worked with a larger hook and weight yarn. Or you could just make it a very big throw by doing the 21 colors twice. One thing with this pattern that I noticed … the larger you go , the more wavy it gets. Hope that helps

if i were making an afghan with 2 colors plus white for the spacing. How many skeins of each would i need to make a twin sized afghan?
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 6 месяцев назад
I’m sorry, I have no idea. Here is what I’d do to figure it out : I’d recommend you make a sample that’s roughly 12x12 inches . Weight it in grams or ounces . Write that down and then undo it and measure how much each batch of colors weighs. Write those down. Next, break down the size of a Twin sized afghan into inches and divide it into to 12x12 inch segments. See how many you have. Take the weights of your yarn samples and multiply it to the amount of 12x12 segments you came up with. That will give you the amount of yarn you’ll need for each skein. 👍🏻💕

It IS just the first time of the round. Think of the 5 chain as 3 plus 2 rather than 2 plus 3. The first 3 chain of the five count as (in place of) the first double crochet stitch, then you add the 2 as the space. So for that first time you do 5 chain, double crochet, 2 chain, double crochet, etc. Hope that helps.

Is there a formula that can be used to determine how much yarn is needed for a blanket? I need to order and want to make sure I get enough of the same dye lot.
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 8 месяцев назад
Here is a basic formula (at end of this message) and you can make it work by using the yarn label online . If you don’t have that yarn yet but have something that is a similar weight/type yarn , you can make a swatch to help guesstimate how much you would need. It’s not perfect but it will give you an idea. If you are wanting to switch colors , then make your swatch with the different colors and then unravel and weigh each separate color and then use that to determine how much of each color you would need. That will be harder to determine since the length of yarn will get longer with each round. First, I would weigh the whole swatch to see how much yarn was used overall. Then pull it apart to weigh each color . It sounds complicated but really this is the easiest way to figure out how much you’ll need . @@silvercarolina4045 It really varies as far as colors - I usually use about 5-7 colors. I just literally line them up - use them in that order. This is such a beautiful pattern. The larger my blanket gets, the more it ruffles and does not lay flat. What am I doing wrong?
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 2 года назад
It’s hard to know exactly but ruffling usually means that there are too many stitches. That doesn’t mean you are necessarily miscounting anything. It just means that to help it stop ruffling, some stitches can be removed to pull it back in. So if you can find some places while you’re working to remove a chain here or there that might help. Switching to a smaller hook would also help tighten the stitches . You see what I mean? Something needs to be removed or omitted to help. Tension could also be an issue. Sometimes the faster we go , the looser we get. But again, ultimately, you aren’t doing wrong.
