One question I never got answered is how they know these shells and sub shells with their certain qualities exist?. How they find out how many electrons are located on certain shells and so on.

This is the Only video I have seen that explains shells, subshells and orbitals in a way I can understand. I suffered through two high school chemistry courses where the teachers made this topic completely muddy and incomprehensible. This would have saved me so much pain. I have this really big confusion, my book says the number of subshells in a principal shell is equal to the value of n. With this logic shouldn’t the the 7th energy level have subshells upto “i”. Why is it only up to f?
